Not an AIBU but how much roughly does it cost an hour for a cleaner?

Really fed up with my grown up children doing bugger all and paying £25 per week max but not really contributing towards, housework, laundry etc. Have decided they can contribute towards the cost of a cleaner if they are going to be lazy twats. My DH does do laundry etc. but his idea of cleaning the whole house is to run the robot vacuum. Pig sick of the lot of them.

£25 for 2 hours in the north west.
I get all the big jobs done so we as a family can keep on the small jobs.
1 main bathroom
1 en-suite
1 downstairs toilet
Hoovers the house including 2 lots of stairs
Mops kitchen floor
Cleans inside windows/kitchen cupboards- whichever is more important at the time depending on time.

£14ph, Surrey/Hants border. There's 4 of them for 45 minutes so 3 man hours cleans kitchen sides/floor, bathroom x2, hoovering.

LakieLady · 27/07/2020 20:23

£16ph round my way (affluent part of Sussex).

There are cleaners who have a waiting list of clients. One that I know now charges £20ph, and still has a waiting list!

I pay £25 for two hours. They do general cleaning, really, sweep, mop, wipe, bleach bathrooms, empty bins and vacuum.

She doesn’t tidy obviously so I always ensure the house is tidy before she comes

CasaLuna · 27/07/2020 20:31

£13 hour zone 4 London. She does three hours a week. She’s been with us for years and she’s great. She cleans the kitchen and bathroom fully (no oven), dusts all rooms, change bedding in 1 room (no children yet), hoovers and mops all floors including stairs, and light tidying up.

Ethelfleda · 27/07/2020 20:33

In the Midlands here
The agency we use suggests £8.50 an hour but I pay her £20 a week for roughly 1.5 hours.
Just binned the agency off as well so will be paying her an extra £25 per month that I would have paid them. She is absolutely golden and I never regret taking her on.

Ethelfleda · 27/07/2020 20:36

Forgot to add - we originally took her on for 2 hours a week but if she does it in less time and I’m still happy with the results, I don’t see why I would reduce what I pay her!
Smallish 3 bed semi. She changes bed sheets and irons too (although we don’t have much ironing)

FakeBrunette · 27/07/2020 20:58

£16 per hour in Cotswolds. They use their own eco-friendly products.

Devlesko · 27/07/2020 20:59

Just a thought OP, the house needs to be quite clean to begin with.
I'm sure they won't tidy for your kids, because it will take longer and eat into cleaning time.
we didn't get one for this reason, e would never be tidy enough Grin

TrickyD · 27/07/2020 21:32

£4.55 per hour for 16 year old, minimum wage.
Currently two hours a day by grandson.
Brilliant, he’s doing all the unskilled tedious jobs, washing paintwork, cleaning brass and silver, power washing the patio etc.
Every home should have one.

Nifnif · 27/07/2020 23:18

To the poster who asked what she gets done in 1.5 hours - we have a small 2 bed and she comes once a week; she usually does the kitchen and bathroom plus hoovering and some dusting.

MissMarplesHandbag · 27/07/2020 23:21

London £35 - 2.5/3 hrs

BlokeNumber9 · 27/07/2020 23:21

£12 p/h, central London. Hope my cleaner doesn't find this thread.

I'm a cleaner. I get £11ph (Derbyshire) and generally do 2 hours a week for a 2-3 bed house. If I have time spare I iron/change bedding or sweep the driveway. I always dust, hoover, mop, empty bins, deep clean worktops and sink, clean obvious marks on windows, wipe kitchen cupboard fronts. Oven, carpet shampooing and all windows is extra time.

One thing I would advise is book a double slot or an extra hour for your first clean which will help get on top of things like skirting boards, door frames, rails etc and then can concentrate on main areas after that

FizzyPink · 27/07/2020 23:36

Definitely ask around for a recommendation and if you find a good one do not let them go!

I’m not sure if it’s cleaners in general or if we’ve just been unlucky but some of the ones we’ve had have been ridiculously unreliable. There’s always some excuse why they can’t come that week or need to do a different day. The last one I had to come back from work to let in as she’d gone for a cigarette and locked herself out Hmm I don’t mind her having a break but she was only there for 2 hours and that was 20 minutes in!

cheeseychovolate · 27/07/2020 23:39

Tidy up the night before so when she comes it's cleaning your paying for not tidying. Kitchen and bathrooms a must every week. Hoovering and polishing bedroom and lounge. Go with a recommendation from a friend or colleague

Oysterbabe · 27/07/2020 23:39

How big is your house? I have a small, 3 bathroom, 4 bedroom house and it takes her 5 hours to do top to bottom. I pay £12 an hour in Bristol.
