Dp has been working from home since just before lockdown.

His desk is set up on the dining room table, a metre away from the rest of the sitting room.

He seems to be unable to work without muttering swear words under his breath or sticking his headphones in and very loudly playing music so everyone else can hear what he's listening to. Also complains that he can't concentrate with all the general commotion downstairs.

The kids have a large bedroom and spend less than an hour upstairs in it throughout the day, our bedroom has a sofa in it so no space for a table and chairs.

AIBU to ask him to move his desk upstairs into the kids bedroom so that we can relax downstairs without him complaining about being distracted by the general noise around him?

He obviously thinks IABU and that we just want to lock him away... but he won't stop muttering 🙈

He’ll damage his hearing if he keeps listening to music that loud.

What shape is the sofa that makes it awkward? How much desk space does he need eg does he have multiple monitors etc?

You can get small desks that you can use with sofas - google desk over sofa

Or this is more what I was thinking of - something wide enough to wheel over the sofa and fold up if not in use - not that these seem to fold, but at least they have the width

Yes he's being unreasonable and so are you you !

I assume as he's holding down a grown up job he's adult enough to solve his own problems?

You should not mother him and should carry on ignoring him.

Both my husband and I work full time at the moment from home. He already has his office as he always works from home and he needs special equipment which is all set up.

I work downstairs on the dining table. We have open plan kitchen dinner, with three kids at home. Yes it's annoying, but I think I have asked kids to be quiet 4 times since March.

It's my choice to work where I work and I have not used the other rooms as the internet and phone reception is not great in our house.
