Period in hotel

Magicra84 · 26/07/2020 08:11

I'm staying in a small guest house with ex dp and unfortunately I've had a really heavy period (endometriosis) and I've left a few spots the size of a 5p piece on the duvet and one on the sheet. They will have seen worse won't they? I'm worried they're going to charge me for the cleaning bill.

Of course not, they will have a laundry system that can deal with a bit of blood!

sothebellsring · 26/07/2020 08:14

They shouldn't charge you, they should be used to things like this happening as a hotel even if it's only small. I wouldn't even say anything.

They probably use ammonia to remove the stains, please don't worry.

HouseOfPaper · 26/07/2020 08:26

I work in housekeeping for a hotel and believe me, a few drops of blood is nothing compared to other things I've seen! Don't worry at all, like another poster said, it all gets sent away and professionally laudered! Smile

piscean10 · 26/07/2020 08:28

I would probably try to give it a bit of a rinse tbh. but I'm sure it will be fine.

Magicra84 · 26/07/2020 08:39

Thanks for your replies. It's so embarrassing but I suppose it happens!

@HouseOfPaper what things have you seen? !! Shock Would be a great Ask Me Anything thread!!

OP, don’t worry, us women can’t help our periods, and it sounds quite minimal on the sheets.

OdaMaeBrown · 26/07/2020 09:42

I got food poisoning while staying in a hotel.

It was a lot worse that a bit of blood, I felt absolutely dreadful and so embarrassed, but they just changed the sheets and it was never mentioned.

willowandsage · 26/07/2020 09:49

I wouldn't worry at all - worked as a hotel receptionist for a decade and our housekeeping staff have seen far, far worse.

Don't try and rinse them - we would strip the beds straight into bags to be collected for laundering anyway

drspouse · 26/07/2020 09:50

I too would like a hotel housekeeper AMA, @HouseOfPaper!

BluebellForest836 · 26/07/2020 09:53

Iv had two kids that had D&V while on holiday.... one child has autism so didn’t understand going to the bathroom.

100 x worse then a bit of blood I can assure you.

Thatcouldbeme · 26/07/2020 10:00

I worked in a hotel for 2 years for my sins. I've seen worse, other bodily fluids were a weekly occurance. Probably the worst one was when someone managed to have diarrhea in both beds in a twin room, tried to mop it up with every single white towel in the room, gave up and left his shitty boxers and t-shirt on the middle of the floor. It was everywhere, even some splattered on the walls and the door handle Envy. I'm guessing he had a lot of drink on him! And my manager didn't charge them a penny, just got myself and another girl to clean it up Envy. Please believe me, no housekeeper is going to bat an eye at a little bit of blood.

Boringnamechanging · 26/07/2020 10:01

I had a blood stain sheet and mattress protector the size of football yesterday in the holiday cottage. I'd of preferred them tell me as it requires different cleaning that non blood items but I understand why they didn't. It happens and as a woman it happens to me sometimes so I'm not bothered at all.

OhioOhioOhio · 26/07/2020 10:04

Yes here for the ama thread about housekeeping.

MyOwnSummer · 26/07/2020 10:06

OP you should check out the hotel stories subreddit r/talesfromthefrontdesk and also r/talesfromhousekeeping - i assure you that you will feel much better once you've read some of those!

dottiedodah · 26/07/2020 10:06

I am quite sure they will have seen a thousand times worse! Probably wont even notice . Dont worry at all .Unless you were a guest at the delightful Fawlty Towers that is!

Reluctantbettlynch · 26/07/2020 10:13

Don't worry op, it happens. The ones that annoy us are the ones that spill copious amounts of red wine and don't say anything or do anything so it soaks in to the duvet etc, and it's completely dried in when we find out Hmm same with coffee.
The ones that shit the bed and put the duvet over it Angry and don't say.
An AMA thread would surprise most of you with the things people do. Stealing from the rooms - light bulbs, lamps, tv remotes, batteries, hair dryers, pretty much anything not screwed down. This is all at a 4*+ hotel

bridgetreilly · 26/07/2020 10:19

I had a middle of the night nose bleed in a hotel last year. Significantly more on the sheets than you're describing. No problem at all for the hotel and no charge for me. Don't worry about it.

Chottie · 26/07/2020 10:20

@OhioOhioOhio

Yes here for the ama thread about housekeeping.
A huge YES please from me too....

Any I'm a hotel housekeepers AMA around?

Spidey66 · 26/07/2020 10:20

Trust me they'll have seen worse.

To the hotel in Brighton we visited a couple of years back: I'm really, really sorry about the state of the sheets and towels in our room. I did warn you and you were very nice and I did try and strip it and keep it together as much as possible. It was too late when I got back from the hospital to go home as we had come by train and the last one back to London had gone. You'd think after 13 stitches in my leg after a Deliveroo driver collided with me that there wouldn't be quite as much blood.

I wish it had been a bit of menstrual blood!

MinnieJackson · 26/07/2020 10:32

Please tell us more @HouseOfPaper!! Maybe strip the bed yourself and leave it in a pile if that helps.

GreyGardens88 · 26/07/2020 10:36

I want to hear more housekeeper stories

Polly2345 · 26/07/2020 10:40

I have heavy periods and have the same thing several times in hotels OP. I've never mentioned it and it's never been a problem.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 26/07/2020 10:43

Cold water and soap op- vigorously rub and it should come out

Whatnametochoose85 · 26/07/2020 10:53

Don't be embarrassed OP, it's happened to all of us at some point ! The housekeeper will have seen worse and will totally understand!!

SonjaMorgan · 26/07/2020 10:53

I worked as a chambermaid and this is nothing. I have found used condoms in-between sheets, holes in walls, faeces on bedding and towels, drugs, used tampons on the shower floor... I could go on. My favourite story isn't mine, my friend did some cleaning for a holiday camp and found a large poo in a room kettle. Management told her to clean it!
