Period in hotel

I'm staying in a small guest house with ex dp and unfortunately I've had a really heavy period (endometriosis) and I've left a few spots the size of a 5p piece on the duvet and one on the sheet. They will have seen worse won't they? I'm worried they're going to charge me for the cleaning bill.

OP posts:
doodleygirl · 26/07/2020 10:56

Please don’t try and clean it yourself there is no need. It happens, don’t worry about it.

Movinghouseatlast · 26/07/2020 10:58

A small guest house may not send laundry out, they might do it themselves.

We have a lot of additional laundry rules with Covid, so I would like to be told about the stains so I could try to get them out before they are put on a boil wash.

DuesToTheDirt · 26/07/2020 11:01

DD had copious night time vomiting in a youth hostel once, all over the bedding, luckily in a family room. We just bundled everything up in the morning and handed it to reception with many apologies. What else can you do?

Pinkyyy · 26/07/2020 11:02

I'm positive I've seen a housekeeper AMA before, it was really interesting if I remember rightly.

OP I wouldn't worry about it at all, I'm sure it's very common.

Zaphodsotherhead · 26/07/2020 11:04

I wouldn't be embarrassed though. They aren't going to know whether it's your period, a nosebleed or a nasty cut, are they?

I managed to cut my leg in my sleep (with a toenail, I presume), and bled all over the sheet, it looked exactly as though my period had started without warning! I spent ages telling everyone how it happened - no idea why I should have been so worried people would think it was period blood!

Lovingcup · 26/07/2020 11:05

Am I the only one wondering why you were in a guest house with your ex dp?! Really hoping for a romantic reunion story Grin

fibeee · 26/07/2020 11:06

I wouldn’t worry OP but just let them know at reception or leave a note for the housekeeper incase it’s missed.

At my last hotel stay I spilt a bottle of body oil over the bed and was mortified. I spoke to reception and they didn’t seem remotely concerned.

viques · 26/07/2020 11:09

When I was very little I pooed on a clearly brand new hotel blanket. My mum and aunt tried to clean it off and were pretty successful, even more so when they shaved the clean but still stained fluffy bit with my dad's cut throat razor.........

Biancadelrioisback · 26/07/2020 11:10

If you want to lift the stains, you can rinse them with cold water and give it a rub with a bar of soap. My DS has nose bleeds and this works every time to life the stains.
I used to work as a DM in a hotel and saw some horrible messes left by guests so don't worry

Whenwillthisbeover · 26/07/2020 11:12

I've done it too, I was mortified. my sensible head told me they must see this lots, but I still stripped the bed down to the bare mattress and bundled up the sheets so housekeeping didn't have to handle more than necessary.

lilgreen · 26/07/2020 11:21

Happened to me once when period arrived unexpectedly in the middle of the night. I felt awful as it was only a little b&b. I told the owner discreetly and offered to pay but she wouldn’t have it and was so kind.

oakleaffy · 26/07/2020 11:22

@Magicra84
Don't worry... As the others have said, the housekeeping staff will have seen far, far worse.

I have read 'horror stories' too, from hotel room cleaners online, and a 5p sized drop of blood is nothing.

Murders, wild sex {poo, water sports} not to mention the more pedestrian D&V... it is all there to read about.

Teakind · 26/07/2020 11:26

Don't worry OP. As others have said, I'm sure housekeepers have seem much worse.

My toddler got food poisoning on holiday and was sick all over the bed. The smell was awful. I stripped it all and waited for housekeeping to come so I could explain/apologise. I gave her a decent tip too but they were fine about it.

HuggedTheRedwoods · 26/07/2020 11:47

@SonjaMorgan

I worked as a chambermaid and this is nothing. I have found used condoms in-between sheets, holes in walls, faeces on bedding and towels, drugs, used tampons on the shower floor... I could go on. My favourite story isn't mine, my friend did some cleaning for a holiday camp and found a large poo in a room kettle. Management told her to clean it!
I dont know what is worse, the scumbag who left that in a kettle or the camp people thinking it ok to clean and reuse. Angry
BeneathTheMilkyTwilight · 26/07/2020 11:53

Sorry this happened to you OP. I agree it could have been from a nosebleed or similar, I've had blisters that have bled more than that! You could just mention "a cut which bled" if you wanted to give them a heads up without mentioning your period.

I am pleased to hear all the stories of hotels being kind about mishaps. We had a different experience when my DS wet the bed in the night and I went down very apologetically to the front desk of the travelodge we were staying in. The manager was really pissed off and made me feel terrible! I offered to pay, but no she just wanted to moan at me about it for the rest of the stay...

I've been a chambermaid myself so I know what it's like, but accidents do happen.

BunningAndStrave · 26/07/2020 12:17

I always wonder whether they prefer you to strip the bed for them or not. I always do but wonder if it pisses them off for some reason.

thegreylady · 26/07/2020 13:07

My dh had severe colitis and , about 5 years ago, had an attack of bloody diarrhoea in the bed in a hotel. We got out of bed, he went in the cower and I put the sheet in the bath with loads of bath gel over the stain and turned the hot tap full on focussed on the place. It came absolutely clean and most of the sheet was dry so we used the hairdryer By spreading the sheet over two chairs and running the dryer till it was dry. I say ‘we’ poor dh was leaping from shower to loo and back. By 4.am I was able to remake the bed and dh lay down for a couple of hours. We cut our break short and paid for both nights. Your spots of blood won’t upset anyone I am sure.

Jinglebellissimo · 26/07/2020 13:09

As an aside I came on my period once while at a five star hotel. Asked room service if they could get me some towels/tampons whatever.

They came to me room and presented them to me on a cloche Grin

cottonwoolbrain · 26/07/2020 13:15

This happened to me in a hotel in Italy complete with the worst period pains I'd ever experienced. I'd not been expecting a period so woke up in the morning to sheets that were swimming in blood.

I went to reception to try to explain and thankfully they had a lovely member of staff who spoke fluent English. They dosed me up on heavy painkillers and by the time I got back to room housekeeping had been in and changed EVERYTHING including the mattress. I thought they'd charge me but apart from painkillers being discretely left on my pillow when we were having dinner nothing was ever said.

Honestly OP dont worry. Its not as if you got drunk had an orgy and then vomited all over the room.

Hope you're feeling better.

Fancy! 😂
Jinglebellissimo · 26/07/2020 13:28

@FelicityPike it was just two as well - not like a packet. Was tempted to pretend to take a bite and say “thanks I was really peckish”.

motherrunner · 26/07/2020 14:04

@Jinglebellissimo That has made my day 😂

sophiasnail · 26/07/2020 14:48

I used to work in a chain hotel. It genuinely would hardly have registered, seeing blood on the bed sheets. Also, the whole housekeeping team was female, so we've all been there!

Ashdownstar · 26/07/2020 14:57

I was was in a small B&B once, when period came unexpectedly and I stained the sheets a bit. I took them off and put them in the bath tub. The woman who owned the place was cooking breakfast, so I went and explained. I was a bit embarrassed but she was fine about it.
In a bigger hotel I probably wouldn't have said anything.
Compared to what some hotel staff have said here, it's nothing!

Rayne30 · 26/07/2020 15:16

You’d be lucky if they noticed! As a housekeeper we don’t inspect the sheets, they just get whipped off and in the laundry!

And it’s no biggie!
