When do you think we will be able to go in to shops without a mask?

And on public transport? Obviously I know none of you can give a definite answer but wondering when you all think this might be.

April...

anon5000 · 25/07/2020 20:11

Soon I hope. I hate wearing bloody masks.

ScottishStottie · 25/07/2020 20:11

About a year from now maybe? If the find a vaccine...

SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/07/2020 20:13

Following some other countries, few months? I don't think we have to wait for vaccine. Solid antibody tests would be good. If having it really builds the immunity though.

Yeahyoureright · 25/07/2020 20:13

I drove to the supermarket today and when I parked I realised I didn't have my mask Angry I had to drive home to get the bloody thing and drive back. I wish they had some that you could purchase at the door or something. It feels really strange to see everyone wearing them and I hope we don't have to for long

vilamoura2003 · 25/07/2020 20:14

@Yeahyoureright they did have them for sale in a basket by the door in Tescos when I went on Friday 👍

nitgel · 25/07/2020 20:14

I think within 4 weeks people will naturally stop wearing them.

Tootletum · 25/07/2020 20:15

Next year

Batshittery · 25/07/2020 20:16

Not for months and months

Ponoka7 · 25/07/2020 20:18

I went into Liverpool City centre today, hardly anyone was wearing a mask and our shops aren't enforcing it. If there isn't another spike, I think in many places it will be abandoned.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/07/2020 20:20

I think this is going to be just part of the new normal now.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/07/2020 20:22

The argument is though. Should it be the job of shop workers to enforce these rules.
If they wanted a job in authority surely they’d have joined the Police force instead.

xxlostxx · 25/07/2020 20:22

Doesnt seem to be being enforced much around here. Lots not wearing in small or large shops. North west.

MaggotFatcha · 25/07/2020 20:22

I have been in 3 shops today and have only seen 15 (yes, I counted) people wearing a mask, not one of them correctly though.

OddBoots · 25/07/2020 20:24

At a guess, next year, late spring time.. I don't think anyone knows for sure though.

WanderingMilly · 25/07/2020 20:26

Despite being an avid fan of mask wearing (!!) I think it depends on how the next couple of months pan out.

Schools in England will go back in September - there will either be a second spike or not. If there is a second spike, schools will contribute to that, as well as people being out and about much more.

However, I am sort of hoping that the second spike may never happen. If it doesn't, and we all go back to school, back to work, back to the shops and not a lot happens, people will stop wearing the masks and they will slowly be withdrawn...

SchrodingersImmigrant · 25/07/2020 20:26

No wonder shops are not enforcing. The staff is getting enough abuse already

Babamamananarama · 25/07/2020 20:27

Seriously, this is only an issue if shopping is a pastime. It's really easy to do your weekly supermarket shop on a click n collect or get a delivery if you don't drive.

You can order clothes and household stuff online.

You can buy less stuff. Apart from food and a few exceptions eg children outgrowing shoes and clothes, there are not that many reasons you need to actually go shopping.

We all need to buy less stuff from an ecological perspective. I really really can't get upset about the decline of great British hobby of moseying round the shops and buying stuff you don't need.

Downwardfacingdoggy · 25/07/2020 20:28

Hang on and I’ll get my crystal ballHmm

NameChange84 · 25/07/2020 20:29

I think between next Easter and Summer is what I’m gearing up for. And I’m fine with that. I think that things will be very strict in the late autumn/winter and then start easing up gradually but eventually for good.

RiverFlowers · 25/07/2020 20:30

Soon I hope, a lot of people around here aren't wearing masks anyway and the shops don't seem to be refusing entry.

I think if it seems like people aren't "complying" or the shops start losing too many customers, it will be abandoned or it will become optional

Beccatheboo · 25/07/2020 20:31

Not soon enough! I hate them. I find them very oppressive and they steam up my glasses (and no, I won’t be using fairy liquid because it ruins the coating). I won’t be shopping for pleasure until they’re gone and will limit to essentials. I’m sure I’ve entered some parallel universe.

Don’t get me started about gloves...

I like moseying about shops. Would you rather shops all closed and we all just sat clicking away in front of a screen. That would be great for the High Street.
museumum · 25/07/2020 20:32

I think we should wear them through winter when it’s normal coughs and sneezes season. Hopefully it’ll be over by next spring.

SomewhereEast · 25/07/2020 20:34

I think we're stuck with them for the winter but am hopeful about next spring. Even if we don't have a reliable vaccine rolled out I think a combination of quicker, easier tests, better treatments and people just learning to live with it will mean a lot of normality.
