When do you think we will be able to go in to shops without a mask?

And on public transport? Obviously I know none of you can give a definite answer but wondering when you all think this might be.

Potentially never if we see a reduction in other illnesses too.

Mask wearing with be the last measure to go as it enables the opening of the economy and leisure activities that keep people occupied. Get used to it.

It’ll be a while yet. Supermarket was very busy yesterday still. Retail near pre-lockdown figures - yet to see effect if this latest change but overall online and food will increase which may be enough to ward off high st lobbying.

Mummadeeze · 26/07/2020 08:04

I spent a few hours in one shopping yesterday and it was horrible. Hot and harder to breathe. I am trying to follow the rules but it does completely put me off shopping when normally I go shopping regularly and am keen to help boost the economy. It is a shame as I have had the virus some time ago and recovered so didn’t feel I really need the protection. Am not complaining but just making a point that I will definitely be spending less and visiting less shops because of the compulsory mask rule.

FreeWillies · 26/07/2020 08:06

I agree with PP that it'll largely just fade out within a weeks.

BelleSausage · 26/07/2020 08:13

Everyone in my local area is mask wearing. Even if a few aren’t doing it properly. The shops are packed. Masks have given people the confidence to go back inside.

I think they are here to stay for some. It will become a habit. Times they are a changin’.

Roussette · 26/07/2020 08:21

Mask wearing made me feel safer and enticed me back to the shops
^This. Me too.
For the first time yesterday I went for a browse round the shops. I didn't see anyone without one, except some children.
I spent money.

For all those saying it will fade out within weeks, and it does no good...
88% of the world's population live in countries that have either mandated or recommended wearing masks.
All those countries are wrong then?

Whilst I physically don't particularly like wearing one, I will do anything to reduce infection. I imagine we will be wearing them for about a year because they reduce airborne transmission.

When do you think we will be able to go in to shops without a mask?
Attictroll · 26/07/2020 08:26

Lots of people here wearing them. I hate it due to sinus issues but still wear one. I won’t be going to the shops more until they go. I imagine spring though!

When people vote with their wallets. Money is the only thing that talks loud enough for Boris to hear.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 26/07/2020 08:35

It'll fizzle out soon like everything else we are told to do..

chatterbugmegastar · 26/07/2020 08:37

I agree with @WanderingMilly

I think it all depends on the wide rangingness (!) of the second spike

KeepingPlain · 26/07/2020 08:47

From the latest news it looks like the second wave may already be starting.

That's probably likely thanks to the summer holidays, but I think it's really going to hit off over winter. If boris goes by what he previously said about normality by November, then we're screwed. Normality, going to shops with no masks, pubs full to the brim, public transport full to the brim, shops full etc all in time for the annual flu season. That's a brilliant idea!

But he changes his mind daily so who knows.
