To think unless you are actually medically exempt you can't get out of wearing a mask?

People on social media are telling others to download a basic picture of text saying "I am exempt from wearing a mask" to present at supermarkets if they don't want to wear a mask.

Not medically exempt, no hidden disabilities, just for those don't want to wear one.

Surely that crap isn't going to work?

hear I have read some of that thread. It still doesn’t change what we are telling you. Most people, when you go out your front door ARE doing the right thing. You just don’t want to listen as it isn’t suiting your hysteria.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 27/07/2020 14:46

That thread relates to one person. There is no requirement under law for anyone to report anything to the police, so people saying they wouldn't report aren't doing anything wrong. It's just contrary to your opinion, which is not the same thing as being wrong.

Nicknacky · 27/07/2020 14:48

In saying that, I’m a hypocrite as I hugged my SIL last night.

Mydogisthebestest · 27/07/2020 14:51

Hear. I’ve read that thread. The person hasn’t actually done anything yet. Thinking of doing something is not yet a crime.

PotholeParadise · 27/07/2020 14:52

None of these examples (quarantine after Spain, giving false details in restaurants) are that similar to masks in public spaces.

People can see you if you're not wearing a mask near them. They can't see if you came back from Spain nine days ago. You can get away with the latter, but not the former.

Self-centred people who would give false details to a restaurant to avoid potential inconvenience will wear masks in public because they're self-centred.

Mydogisthebestest · 27/07/2020 14:53

Also. There is a difference between me personally being legally obliged to give details and isolate (which is the law) and reporting someone else for breaking the law.

One is mandatory, and one isn’t. There is no requirement in law to report anyone for breaking a law.

I'm not talking about the initial op - I'm talking about the majority of responses - people thinking that it's fine not to quarantine, it's akin to being in the Stasi to report someone not quarantining, that they don't agree with track and trace and the eternal " the vulnerable need to remain permanently isolated so the rest of us can live our lives. We've protected them enough" comment. The thread basically illustrates what I've been saying - people don't want to do the right thing unless made to do so.

No, most people on that thread are supporting not doing the right thing. The don't see the need for quarantine or of isolating
Mydogisthebestest · 27/07/2020 14:58

Doing the right thing is giving your contact details and staying at home.

That is compliance with the law.

Reporting people for law breaking is not mandatory.

Can’t you understand the difference?

Nicknacky · 27/07/2020 14:59

Hear It illustrates nothing. Why won’t you accept what we are saying, that the majority of people out and about ARE doing the right things?

You will see that once you go out your front door.

It's not just about people not reporting others (although why wouldn't you? Would you not report someone breaking into a house or robbing someone? I guess not, after all there's no law forcing you to report it is there? We should all mind our own business, right?). Anyway, it's not just about reporting, it's about the attitude that people not quarantining are doing nothing wrong, that people not isolating with track and trace are doing nothing wrong, it's about people justifying why it doesn't matter if people don't isolate. They won't be saying that in a few weeks when we're heading back to where we were in March will they? Although no doubt they'll be insisting that the vulnerable just get isolated again so they can carry on regardless.
Mydogisthebestest · 27/07/2020 15:06

I didn’t say whether I would or would not report. You are reaching conclusions that are not in what I said. Again.

I also stated, clearly, that everyone should obey the law.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 27/07/2020 15:08

Let's hope people don't LL decide to mind their own business and not be a snitch or a statsi supporter of they see one of them become a victim of crime right? Be a different argument then no doubt.

PotholeParadise · 27/07/2020 15:08

It does not matter what people say about principles and reporting on threads. That is very different from actually being willing to be the one in the Tesco queue who isn't wearing a mask when everyone else is.

The percentage of people wearing masks in shops has been slowly creeping up ever since it was announced that wearing masks protected others, before it became mandatory for shops. In fact, the last time I was in a shop before the 24th, everyone was wearing one.
I haven't done any shops since then, but the numbers won't go down.

ememem84 · 27/07/2020 15:32

I’ve just been to dunelm. And have been told it’s against the law for me to be there without a mask on. Signs saying it at the till.

I politely asked the sales assistant when the law had come into force. She said it’s the law. And has been in place since last week in all shops. I asked whether all dunelm shops or all shops generally. Apparently all shops generally. Except it isn’t here. It is in the U.K. Where I live (Channel Islands) it is not the law. She showed me the guidelines from dunelm head office which say no one is to enter the shop without a mask in line with U.K. government guidance.

She refused to serve me because I wasn’t wearing a mask. I did question why I was allowed in the shop in the first place without a mask and allowed to pick things up and get all the way to the till and shouldn’t they have security on the door if this is their law.

I’ve emailed head office to let them know and to suggest signs are placed on the doors to note no mask no service. I wouldn’t have minded that. I minded being allowed in and then at the end being told no.

SockYarn · 27/07/2020 15:56

The shop assistant is just doing as she is told. You need to tackle this with Dunelm head office - a blanket "no mask, no entry" policy breaches disability legislation.

Is this a fight you're prepared to take on?

BatShite · 27/07/2020 16:09

Of course it will work. If anyone can get the signs, anyone can use them.

Hence why I think there should be a blue badge type scheme tbh for exemptions. Would (in theory) stop people thinking non mask wearers are taking the piss as they will have been 'checked' somewhat.

Mind, given so many think many people on PIP are pisstakers despite the insane standard of proof required..maybe loads would still think most are faking..

I read a really good article over the weekend where some Brits had gone to Spain , and were marvelling at the compliance everyone was showing.

If everyone in Spain is complying with all the rules that is further evidence that masks are pointless, since their cases are increasing - so maybe infection rate is fuck all to do with mask compliance.

Having said that. as their infection rates are increasing, it will be interesting to see if the death rates follow suit - which isn't currently looking to be the case - another couple of weeks will give a better idea of that however.
