Whyyyyy, spagbol has less letters to type... plus spagbowl makes it sounds like a bowl of spaghetti (I read to make sure, they definitely meant spaghetti bolognese!) Honestly I don’t normally police peoples spelling or care about them but it just looks so... annoying.

It annoys me when people use effected and affected wrongly
ie: "She was effected by the weather"
"The show had special affects"
Is it really that difficult?

Yellowbutterfly1 · 24/07/2020 16:20

I can’t stand it being called that. Seems to always be by the same people who say MaccyD’s instead of McDonalds.

iklboo · 24/07/2020 16:22

Bongolaise here from when DS was little.

MikeUniformMike · 24/07/2020 16:24

@Bbq1, I can except your post as all being true accept the last sentence.

Yesyoudoknowme · 24/07/2020 16:29

'Bare with me' - errr... no I am not getting naked with anyone other than DH.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/07/2020 16:38

@HarlinRay I agree. My parents left school at 14 but continued to educate themselves. When I cleared their house when my Dad died the bookcase was full of the old Teach Yourself books, guides to grammar, maths and foreign languages. They cared and wanted to better themselves but now I think some people take a pride in ignorance.

Having said that I received a post card from my 11 year old grandson today that was so beautifully written it restored my faith in the future of humanity. A slight exaggeration but not much.

Haha!

PawPawNoodle · 24/07/2020 16:43

What pisses me off more requires the following PSA - It is 'bolognese' and not 'bolognaise'.

Butternutsqoosh · 24/07/2020 16:45

Basgetti in our house 🙈

ladycarlotta · 24/07/2020 16:49

If you call it spag bowl, spag bog, and to a lesser extent spag bol, then I KNOW you make it by boiling unbrowned mince, carrot, onion and tomato aggressively on the hob for 20 mins til tough.

If that sounds like you, then yes, I'm judging you. Sit down and think about what you've done.

itbemay1 · 24/07/2020 16:54

Bollocknaise in our house, not sure why!! Confused

maddiemookins16mum · 24/07/2020 17:25

Bollocknaisee here.

Sorry.

At least it's a bowl of spag(hetti).

What irritates me is the French: "les spaghettis."

It's bloody well plural already.

We're not the only ones who butcher words.

InTheWings · 25/07/2020 10:55

I saw a new variation on 'chester draws' the other day.
Chested Drawers

At least that has some logic of meaning, drawers in a chest, like potted shrimps or caged beasts.

CarolVordermansArse · 25/07/2020 11:00

@CaptainMyCaptain

Presumably because you can eat it in a bowl.

Dave Gorman has a programme on Dave (the channel) called Modern Life is Goodish where he bases whole programmes on misconceptions like this by following random tweets etc. One was based on the mutation of 'Like a bull in a china shop' (chaotic) to 'Like a bowl in a china shop' (exactly what you'd expect to find).

If you spell it 'spagbowl' then surely you eat it in a bowel?
zukiecat · 25/07/2020 15:54

I hate the abbreviation to "SpagBol"

Sounds absolutely disgusting, when my DDs were little it was always "Sketty Mince"

I always use pasta not spaghetti, but it's been Sketty Mince ever since.
