To Feel Utterly Helpless - release of Natalie Connolly killer

I feel so utterly helpless. The killer of young mother, Natalie Connolly, is about to be released after serving 18mths for killing Natalie under the guise on consensual rough sex! The 41 injuries from which she died included a fractured eye socket and severed artery in the vagina caused by horrific internal injuries. Natalie was too drunk/impaired to consent. A campaign to get the Attorney General to review the lenient sentence failed, after he concluded that it fell within the acceptable range and that she may have consented. The Rough Sex defence has now been out lawed and cannot be relied upon in court, which is a great step forward. However, what, if anything, can we do to appeal/object to the early release of the perpetrator?! As a woman I feel utterly helpless. I feel that we are or have not been listened too. I feel that the law is so concerned with convoluted rules that it fails to achieve the purpose with which it was created. How must this poor ladies family feel, beyond utter devastation. I don't know what to do.

What's his history, Carrotcakeforbreakfast? I used to live in the area but never heard of him (thankfully by the sounds of it)

Is John Broadhurst the son of (now deceased) Steel Queen Jean Broadhurst?

Thanks for sharing that sentencing remarks paper @CandidaAlbicans2

It makes for some difficult reading. I am definitely emailing The Attorney General Geoffrey Cox with my own words about how awful this is that her killer is allowed to walk free in less than two years.

Noone consents to such traumatic injuries that lead to their death. That just doesn't even make sense! And noone would leave someone they love in a bloody, injured mess at the bottom of the stairs. This man is dangerous. The judge also saying he can't be sure she didn't consent, so he's going to assume she did consent. Why on earth would he make that assumption when she had the equivalent of 5 bottles of wine and these injuries led to her death? Although the judge then goes on to say that "a person cannot in law consent to being subjected to actual bodily harm for the purposes of sexual pleasure" and that Natalie's injuries were "actual bodily harm of quite a serious type" and that he is satisfied John Broadhurst "caused the bulk of the injuries to Natalie's breasts and her bottom/lower back". And he's "prepared to accept in [his] favour that [Natalie] instigated" having the cleaning spray bottle inserted in to her vagina. Again, not sure why he would just believe someone that is being sentenced for manslaughter of this woman, but also why is that relevant when it led to massive injuries leading to her death. If someone asked me to stab them, and it hurt them, it's still illegal! Even if they asked me to! He acknowledged that he knew Natalie was bleeding and left her and went to bed. What an awful human being.

Attorney General is now Suella Braverman by the way. Sorry, not Geoffrey Cox
