To not buy a house next to the school if you don’t like the sound of children.

I have a friend. Her and her hubby bought a house directly behind a school. Their garden backs onto the school field. A pathway goes down the near their house from the school.

But they are always moaning about the noise from the school field.. the school have been spending a lot more time than usual outside at the minute when it’s sunny due to covid and outdoor learning but they moaned about the noise before then.

My children go to the same school and I just feel that if you buy a house near a school you should expect the noise?? There is only one school in the area and they bought the house closest to the field/playgrounds.

Aibu?

Oh for gods sakes if someone doesn't like the noise don't live next to it!

Buy her earplugs for her birthday 🎉🍾🙄

In similar news, some people bought a house next to a race track complained about the noise resulting in the track having its days limited, so a business has been materially harmed because some people.wanted a quiet life...next to a fucking motor racing circuit.

People are selfish arseholes and your friend is certainly one.

I viewed a lovely house that was described as quiet location based on no noise from the school evenings and at weekends

Knowing I worked from home and took (occasional) days off to recover from mid week hangovers I decided that wasn’t the house for me, my choice

Sorry your friends are completely in the wrong for buying a house backing onto a school then complaining

First day of the holidays, looking forward to a quiet day... oh no, holiday sports camp!

Holiday sports camps are actually the worst. I don’t mind regular school noise one bit but I HATE holiday camps, because they’re outside screaming all day.

My late ILs house backed on to a school playground. I always rather liked the noise.

YANBU noise and parking issues go hand in hand with owning a property near a school.

Itsarattrap · 23/07/2020 10:18

Are they normally at home all day, outside of lockdown?

Unless retired, wouldn’t have thought kids’ noises 9-4 would be a big deal for most. If they are, they shouldn’t have moved there 🤷‍♀️

I always wonder what goes through people’s heads when they buy a house. She bought a house near a school but doesn’t like the sound of children playing outside Grin Yeah it makes total sense that.

There are numerous threads on here where people are moaning about the noise their neighbours are making. Especially children playing in their garden. Unless it’s 1am in the morning then it’s hard luck. What do people expect when they buy a house with neighbours? That people will never make any noise just for them? Mind boggles at these people.

I love hearing kids playing. We live reasonably close to a village school, I love hearing the kids at break time when I am hanging out the washing, knowing that my child is part of the cacophony.

They are nuts. Anyway they have had months of schools closed due to Covid.

My cousin bought a cheap house near the airport under the Heathrow flight path. I warned him several times “it will be loud! Jet engines taking off most hours are not quiet!”
His response: but it’s cheap! I’d have to go up North for a house this size on budget!

Now there are posts on Facebook about the noise at least twice a week. I know better than to say I told you so!

KeepingPlain · 23/07/2020 10:45

How did you not laugh at them when they first said that? I'd have burst out laughing and been like 'well duh you moved next to a school, did you expect to hear choir of angels singing instead?'

People like that kind of need to be humiliated to realise how stupid they actually are. If you don't respond or make any obvious attempt at pointing it out, they think you agree with them.

Although I completely agree, not everywhere affected by airport noise is cheap. I'm always surprised how noisy it is when I go to Richmond or Kew.
