No it doesn’t. It does exactly the opposite, it puts into perspective the small things we complain about compared to real issues for people coping with real problems
@sst1234 Don't want to derail the thread but I agree with @OverTheRainbow88 only on serious issues though. What you've written (which I also agree with) is for threads such as these (which are fine, imo). I use the phrase myself in such situations.
However in more serious conversations, usually when people (mostly politicians and supremacists) mention 'third world', they mean something along the lines of "those poor shithole countries we are so above, they hardly have shoes, books, clothes, food, etc or know what internet is. They aren't as progressive and civilised as we are and we must help them see the light and send them aid (in exchange of natural resources or something, mind). We are the leading/first world and they are below/behind us".
It's an unnecessary phrase that shows the arrogance of those who coined it.
That said, I'm not referring to this thread and the lighthearted use of the phrase. I've joined in here myself
