Do you have wraparound care at school next term?

I’m just interested as I’ve read a few posts recently.

Our school usually has wraparound care provided off site by a local nursery. This isn’t opening up again in September. I’m a SAHM who has been job hunting, obviously I have given up for now unless I can find something within school hours Hmm

Anyone else in the same boat?

YABU - all back to normal in Sept!
YANBU - no wraparound care lined up.

Our school are opening breakfast and after school club again. I don’t use either so don’t know how they are working but I know the times are as before

Di11y · 18/07/2020 12:25

Wraparound here. key stages in bubbles for play time and dinner (120) and wraparound too.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 18/07/2020 12:26

Nope

maxdash · 18/07/2020 12:28

Yes we do, thank God! Though we've actually been coping really well with no school, it's involved a lot evening and weekend working for DH. He's going to be glad when that can end. Though I appreciate we are fortunate that we've been able to work it that way.

The local primary schools though have a similar issue to you in that WAC is off-site & multiple schools. They aren't reopening. I don't know how many parents will cope. We had doubted our school choice but I've never been so grateful we made it as I have this last few months!

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 18/07/2020 12:29

Yes breakfast & after school club will be open. The school have said they will try to keep classes together where possible which given there are only 2 or 3 more kids in dd1's class who go and 1 in dd1's class mean either lots of very small bubbles or they'll be split exactly as they were pre covid rec-yr2 & yr3-6

Thestreets · 18/07/2020 12:29

I was really worried about this as I wouldn't be able to work without it but we were informed the breakfast and after school clubs will run as normal from September. This is in a small village school if that makes any difference.

maxdash · 18/07/2020 12:29

A friends school is doing breakfast club but no after school and another's is doing after school club until 5, not 6. Apparently because it won't be financially viable.

Another school I know of won't let anyone but parents collect which is madness!

Thestreets · 18/07/2020 12:30

I know some of the larger schools in the city have decided not to offer wraparound so I feel very lucky.

MrsLJ2014 · 18/07/2020 12:32

Literally told yesterday (last day of term) that we'll have it back, with children in a few bubbles. Can't book any extra sessions for now though, must stick to same weekly sessions, being reviewed at half term.

mnahmnah · 18/07/2020 12:33

We received an email saying they are looking further at all the guidance and will be in touch. So no idea!

LBOCS2 · 18/07/2020 12:33

Nope. No wraparound care, and staggered drop off and collection times which basically means two hours out of my working day to do the school run even if I'm working from home.

I'm not sure what we're going to do, tbh.

NeverSurrender · 18/07/2020 12:37

Yes both and holiday club over the summer, thank god!

PumpkinPie2016 · 18/07/2020 12:40

Our son's school is offering the breakfast and after school club.

We don't need it so not sure how they are operating but the letter did say they are closing at 5.30pm instead of 6pm. I imagine that will make it tricky for those who head into Manchester for work (nearest city) using trains etc.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 18/07/2020 12:41

Being told to book with the hope it is allowed to open.

Coldilox · 18/07/2020 12:41

Yes, before and after school club. Very relieved as we wouldn’t cope without it.

The OOSC is divided into four bubbles: nursery and reception; Y1and Y2; Y3 and Y4; Y5 and Y6.

UndertheCedartree · 18/07/2020 12:41

My DD's school is providing wraparound care from 14th Sep (they go back on 7th) but on a reduced basis.

Breakfast club is only doing one sitting at 7.45pm. Breakfast will be a pre-packaged pastry or cereal bar, plus fruit and a juice carton.

After school care is running only until 5pm. Tea will be a pre-packaged snack and dessert plus fruit and a juice carton.

Both will be keeping DC seperated in their year group and are only taking 10 DC per year group (out of 150) so spaces will be very limited. It's a start, though.

peppermintteadrinker · 18/07/2020 12:44

Breakfast club but no after school club. Badly thought out pickups which I anticipate will mean queuing all up the street with little or no distancing with narrow pavement Sad

I'm really stressed about it. Burst into tears yesterday when told officially. I feel utterly exhausted with all the things in my head.

Eminybob · 18/07/2020 12:45

Yes ours are. The head sent a survey out to gauge the need for it, and has announced it will start up again from September.
In normal times we absolutely rely on wraparound care, neither DH or I could work without it, it was 100% a vital factor in choosing the school.
Luckily WFH has meant it has been workable without it, but not ideal, since ds has been back (Y1 so returned in June)
It is going to make my life a lot easier having it available come September.

CaveMum · 18/07/2020 12:50

Our school (primary) are running both breakfast and after school clubs from September (they’ve been running them all through lockdown but for NHS/essential worker children only). We are doing staggered start/finish times for each year group too.

Whattodo121 · 18/07/2020 12:56

Found out yesterday at 3pm that ASC would be running as normal, but prebooked sessions only, no adhoc. Breakfast club not reopening at present.

Thankfully I only work three days a week (teacher), but I can’t drop off or pick up without both in place as my school is half an hour away and starts 10 minutes after DS’s and finishes 45 minutes later. DH is with emergency services on shifts so is out the house at all hours. Thankfully ILs have agreed to do drop offs that DH can’t cover-it’s only about 5 mornings before October half term. They’re reviewing breakfast club and am hoping that they reopen that at half term. I would have to resign if no ASC so I was very stressed before yesterday’s email. I’ve booked ds on and now can relax over the holidays. 😅

MoreTeaPenguin · 18/07/2020 13:05

Have you looked into local childminders? Our childminder is open now, she'll look after our kids a couple of days a week over the summer holidays. And she does school drop offs and pick ups in term time.

myworkingtitle · 18/07/2020 13:18

MoreTeaPenguin there aren’t any childminders who currently do school runs at our school (it’s a small village school). I guess it’s possible there is somebody who will if I look around.

wizzbangfizz · 18/07/2020 13:19

Nope and it is yet another thing which will prevent parents from returning to
Work fully

ZombieLizzieBennet · 18/07/2020 13:21

None at ours. Luckily I don't need it, but will fuck my friend over.

DiddlySquatty · 18/07/2020 13:22

Yes - they’ve confirmed the in house bfast club will be running
And that the two local providers of after school clubs will be running as usual.

I’m relieved as I had wondered how they would manage that with the stuff about bubbles and keeping classes separate.
But yes it would’ve made work very challenging
