Do you have wraparound care at school next term?

I’m just interested as I’ve read a few posts recently.

Our school usually has wraparound care provided off site by a local nursery. This isn’t opening up again in September. I’m a SAHM who has been job hunting, obviously I have given up for now unless I can find something within school hours Hmm

Anyone else in the same boat?

YABU - all back to normal in Sept!
YANBU - no wraparound care lined up.

Breakfast club is opening but not offering breakfast. After school is on, but until 5pm instead of 6pm. I work until 5, so will have to leave work early.

maddening · 18/07/2020 13:30

Ours is doing breakfast and afterschool club normal times. It is a tiny school though - about 80 children in the whole school so is possiblly easier to manage

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 18/07/2020 13:34

They haven’t told us yet about either! Breakfast club is run by the school and ASC by an external provider.
The ASC provider wants to open but is waiting to hear from the school as to whether they are allowed.

School doesn’t break up until Friday so assuming we will hear this week.

I’m hoping we can reduce the need for ASC club to one or two days anyway if DH can continue working at home a couple of days a week not holding my breath though as his employers can be dicks!

All as normal here, but again it's a small village school so not massive numbers. I would estimate often they don't have more than 15, but they will be splitting into KS1 and KS2 bubbles if required. Kids will have to wash their hands going between wraparound and their class.

Gizlotsmum · 18/07/2020 13:47

Limited breakfast club (reduced numbers) and no after school activities for the first term.

SkyeIsPink · 18/07/2020 14:07

DS is starting reception in September and our school will not be doing breakfast or after school club for the moment. They're hoping to change this in term 2.

I don't need breakfast club as I work from home and we live right by the school, but the after-school club would have been nice. It just means working with him under my feet for the last couple of hours of the day, but luckily my boss is quite understanding.

myworkingtitle · 18/07/2020 14:27

We only have 105 kids in our school, so don’t think being a small school is a key factor.

Neither is opening and children can only be picked up by members of their household. Totally screwed.

daisybrown37 · 18/07/2020 14:40

No breakfast or after school club. Unfortunately I had to change jobs due to redundancy and needed both. Staggered drop off/pick ups not ideal either.

Still figuring out what to do as there are no childminders doing pickups. There is a local nursery who have a provision so may go with this. New job (support staff at a school) can accommodate some flexible working but it will be unpaid.

Drogonssmile · 18/07/2020 14:42

Ours is opening as before. Same times but more limited numbers separated into groups.

Ickabog · 18/07/2020 14:44

Both are opening at our school, but with some changes. Such as keeping children within their year groups, and altering the finish / start times.

Mayvis · 18/07/2020 14:45

No breakfast club in Sep. Which is great as I now have to drop my children off at their school and also be at work in my own school 8 miles away at the same time.

NotPayingAttention · 18/07/2020 14:47

Yes opening back up again. Run by and in the school. It is on slightly reduced hours and more expensive though, with less allowance for meals being prepared for the kids so its definitely gotten a bit shitter for us Hmm

NotPayingAttention · 18/07/2020 14:48

@Mayvis
So how will you cope with that? Have you complained to the school? I dont know how they can just drop people in it like that? So unfair!

Iwalkinmyclothing · 18/07/2020 14:53

No. No breakfast club, no afterschool club, and early finish on Fridays. Staggered pick up times but from what I can work out fron the strangely written letters we have had, no staggered drop off times. I get a sense in all communication from the school that they are tearing their hair out trying to balance all the competing demands and whilst I have some disagreements with some of the choices they have made once the last few months I also have immense sympathy for them and recognise their position is incredibly difficult.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 18/07/2020 14:54

Yes our school is reopening it’s breakfast and after school club. It’s a split site school (formerly infant and junior schools) and the provision will be split between the 2 sites - it was previously just on one site. It’s costing slightly more as staffing levels have increased.
We previously used wrap around care offsite (attached to a nursery my youngest goes to) but that does pickups from 3 schools and it’s unlikely they’ll be able to do all 3. So we’ve gone for the school option.

wagtailred · 18/07/2020 14:56

Where i work both are opening. My youngest school is a specialist provision so we didnt have before and after school club before (or a nanny or a child minder option). Its incredibly hard to hold down a job that isnt just school hours but allows travel time.

KoalasandRabbit · 18/07/2020 14:58

We are secondary so bit different but no clubs before, after or at lunchtime operating.

PinkyBrain · 18/07/2020 15:00

Breakfast and after school club usually provided by school but apparently won’t be in September. If I’m still working from home it won’t be a problem but if not we’re going to struggle.

PicsInRed · 18/07/2020 15:01

Yes thank god. Might keep the job and house, heat and food after all.

Perpetuallytiredzzz · 18/07/2020 15:02

Both my children are starting new schools for different education phases and they have said there will be no wraparound care currently as it’s against the guidelines (it’s not though). Both me and dh work ft and don’t live near family so chose the school in part due to the wraparound care provided so it’s a bit gutting and not sure how we’re going to manage at the moment. Youngest is also possibly getting an extended part time transition so half days for at least two weeks and possibly longer. It’s an absolute nightmare for us and really not sure what we will do, probably end up having loads of unpaid leave that I can’t afford Sad

CastleCrasher · 18/07/2020 15:02

None here. The wraparound provided by the school won't be running, the wraparound private daycare that we use has closed permanently and the alternative private wraparound that we are now going to have to use (which is eye watering expensive) can't cope with all the different staggered starts that the schools in the area are planning so can only keep dc1 three days a week until the staggered drop offs stop.

Fred578 · 18/07/2020 15:03

No. We’ve been told no breakfast or after school club and won’t be reviewed until the autumn

Yeah so unfair. It's not like there's a global pandemic with constantly changing guidance and a million factors to consider Hmm

AnnaMariaDreams · 18/07/2020 15:13

No. Normally they do a great crèche but it’s closed until further notice.
I am going back in September, 2 days per week and DH who is WFH will have to do drop off 8.30 and pick up 3.30 on those two days.
I used to work 3 days and relied heavily on grandparents.
