Unwarranted weight loss advise. AIBU to think this is very CF?

My aunt has just sent me these over WhatsApp, some silly insoles that purport to aid weight loss. She thought I might be interested.

I've never spoken to her about wanting to lose weight. I'm 10 stone not morbidly obese.

Privately I would like to lose a few lbs but I would hope that anybody looking at me wouldn't assume I need to Confused

I think this is pretty cheeky to be fair. I'm not impressed.

My OP was supposed to say Advice* before somebody else corrects me Smile

YANBU. Very CF.

GinDaddyRedux · 18/07/2020 11:42

Have you told her how you feel?

ComDummings · 18/07/2020 11:44

It wouldn’t matter if you were even 25 stone this would still be rude. The only person who should be speaking to someone about their weight is their doctor. Tell her to piss off, you’re only 10stone anyway.

SharedLife · 18/07/2020 11:44

Could you respond in a "haha that's so funny, can you believe people buy that nonsense! Good find, I needed a chuckle!"

SummerPoppies · 18/07/2020 11:44

I would just message back ' let me know if they work for you ', and leave it at that.

Iamclearlyamug · 18/07/2020 11:45

Agree with @SharedLife definitely do this

SerenDippitty · 18/07/2020 11:45

Could your aunt do with losing weight herself?

teablanket · 18/07/2020 11:46

@SummerPoppies

I would just message back ' let me know if they work for you ', and leave it at that.
Grin amazing response.
firstpregnancy1 · 18/07/2020 11:47

I'd reply something like 'I'm actually really happy with my weight at the moment but thanks for thinking of me 👍🏻' (even though you arent, it's no business of hers and she'll be left realising it was rude of her and the thanks is sarcastic enough to get your point across without lowering yourself to being rude back)

So, to activate the magic insoles you need to put them in your shoes and then walk around? And let me guess - the more you walk the more weight you lose?
How will you keep a straight face next time you see her?

KeepingPlain · 18/07/2020 11:48

Have you ever said you're interested in acupressure or the like to her? Are you in medicine or similar for a job? Maybe she thought you'd find it funny or interesting?

Can't really know if she thinks you need to lose weight. She might just have an odd sense of humour and doesn't express it well.

Xusi · 18/07/2020 11:52

I don't work in the medical field so have no professional interest in acupressure or other holistic therapies.

I replied to her saying "I don't need to lose weight. I'm 10st and within the healthy BMI for somebody of my height"

I have just added an additional reply though at the suggestion of others here "let me know if the insoles work for you"

Grin

She probably could do with losing weight herself yes.

This is the same aunt who always comments on my nose by saying how much I look like a certain celebrity. I don't.

So that's two imperfections she has zoned in on. How rude.

I've had two children 15 months apart the youngest being 13 months so I don't think I look too bad considering the toll that takes on a woman Smile

CalmdownJanet · 18/07/2020 11:56

Is she trying to sell them? I wonder if you showed interest would it turn in to a sales pitch, seems very random otherwise

Xusi · 18/07/2020 11:58

Nope she's not trying to sell them.

She saw them in a magazine and thought I might want them to help me lose weight.

Vodkacranberryplease · 18/07/2020 12:00

Well she's clearly thick AF if she's falling for these red top ads. I'd be more worried about that and hope it's not genetic.

Xusi · 18/07/2020 12:00

Not to drip feed but five years ago I was extremely thin to the point where I may have been diagnosed with anorexia if I sought help.

I put my weight back on and look very healthy now, but anybody with an ounce of common sense would think not to trigger somebody who's previously had an eating disorder.

Ooops! Quoted the wrong poster, sorry Blush

I meant to quote SummerPoppies

My mum has done similar to my DP before. And has basically been doing this to me on and off throughout my adult life. It's rude, CF-ery, hurtful and unnecessary. Unless your Aunt thinks for some reason you don't understand how to lose weight (which unless you've had a lobotomy surely we all know) then this is a bitchy thing to do IMO. Hope she liked your responses ;)
Xusi · 18/07/2020 12:04

She replied saying "Oh wow that is so smart! How amusing. Love that one. I am 12 stones" and a laughing emoji.

bluebluezoo · 18/07/2020 12:05

Could it be an MLM? She’s selling you something/trying to recruit?

VettiyaIruken · 18/07/2020 12:06

Two stone heavier than me. Why did you think I'd want or need them?
