To consider whether it was just poo?

I’ve been rapidly putting on weight these past few weeks. My clothes have been getting tighter and tighter, belly massive, scales going up every day even though I’m not eating anymore than I normally do. I hadn’t been to toilet properly for around 3 weeks (doctor isn’t interested).

Out of desperation on Wednesday night I took 3 dulcolax tablets. Well the next day my toilet resembled a war zone. I had two massive “movements” and then diarrhoea for the rest of the day. I’ve had loose poo numerous times a day since Thursday. I’ve just stepped on the scales and I’ve lost half a stone since Thursday.

So the weight gain, I thought I was just getting fat but it was poo wasn’t it?? Must have been ... or am I kidding myself?

It was poo

BigKnickers87 · 18/07/2020 08:53

If you’re putting food in your body daily and not getting rid of any of it then yeah it makes perfect sense that you were literally full of shit Grin

userxx · 18/07/2020 08:54

I think you're full of shit........ sorry, couldn't resist!

SquishyBones · 18/07/2020 08:55

😂😂 honestly, I shit you not this is what happened! 😂

Lexilooo · 18/07/2020 08:59

A lot will be water too, so some will go back on when you rehydrate

MummyGoingItAlone · 18/07/2020 08:59

Definitely poo but if you’ve had diarrhoea then a lot of it will be water. Make sure you are drinking lots

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 18/07/2020 08:59

yes, poo
If it happens again maybe start off with just one tablet?

Northernsoullover · 18/07/2020 09:02

I had this issue. Ten a day from now on OP. Apples, dried prunes and tangerines are good too. I was constipated I couldn't even produce a fart Sad

SinkGirl · 18/07/2020 09:03

As someone who experienced this as a chronic issue for years due to medication, yes a lot of it could have been poo.

I’d recommend getting some dulcoease which is a stool softener and taking one a day to start, this can be increased. Dulcolax works well if you’re really backed up but a high dose and the resulting effects can make you feel really ill. Don’t let it get more than 3 days or so between movements

Coffeeandteach · 18/07/2020 09:06

Not the point of the thread but.. Dulcolax is lethal! I honestly thought I was dying with the pain when I took them for their "gentle" relief.

It sounds like you had some poo weight. I think 2/3lbs of water weight will go back on though.

DameHannahRelf · 18/07/2020 09:07

Op it does indeed sound like you were just full of shit Grin

Seriously though, if it continues the Dr might be able to prescribe you something/investigate what's going on.

DrManhattan · 18/07/2020 09:09

Some of that weight will go back on when you hydrate again.

SquishyBones · 18/07/2020 09:09

I’ve got some movicol so now that the backlog has gone I’ll start taking them once my poo starts firming up again.

Dolcolax is indeed the devil’s creation. I liken the pain to being in labour and now my arse is like a little ring of fire. My poor toilet doesn’t know what’s hit it.

There’s a lot of power in those little yellow tablets!

OP posts:
FatherBrownsBicycle · 18/07/2020 09:25

Yep definitely poo.

I had to have moviprep prior to a colonoscopy. Ducolax is a delight compared to that! I lost 5 lbs-instantly.

Fybogel is a lot gentler for every day use.

whiplashy · 18/07/2020 09:34
Hmm
scoobydoo1971 · 18/07/2020 09:35

Please don't use laxatives. There are kinder ways to dispatch your waste, and reclaim your waist :-D Fruit, veg, dates etc...but also a ton of water as we loose so much fluid sweating in the summer heat. Also a long long walk.

High fibre diet works for me. I am on opiates which slow your gut right down and it feels very unpleasant not to go for days on end. If your issue continues, see your GP and insist on a referral. You may require further investigation and bowel issues are best caught early.

QuiteCleanBandit2020 · 18/07/2020 09:50

Op any sudden change in bowel habit like this should be investigated .

SinkGirl · 18/07/2020 09:55

Unfortunately high fibre makes my bowels much much worse so unfortunately that’s not always the case (mine is opiate induced too and slow motility plus extra fibre means even bulkier stools). Lots of water does help but when I was on a higher dose nothing but medications helped.

PollyPelargonium52 · 18/07/2020 09:56

Eat some dried prunes daily.

Justaboy · 18/07/2020 09:58

You should try a stuff called "Fleet" some time!

The call "Man the boats" is quite apprioiate:!

SquishyBones · 18/07/2020 10:01

@whiplashy

Hmm
Bore off with your daft face.

It’s not a sudden change unfortunately, I’ve suffered chronic constipation for years 😞 high fibre diets make it a lot worse. I had a colonoscopy last year which was clear but I suffered for days afterwards with trapped air in my belly. It was truly awful, I felt like I needed popping.

Yes - your GP han’t helped, so ask to see someone else in the same GP practice. Change of bowel habit can be a sign of serious disease.

At the same time, are you getting out much less since lockdown started? If I don’t spend some of the day walking, about an hour or so in total, my bowel loses interest.

Justaboy · 18/07/2020 10:02

Humm! actually there the same thing, just differnt names for the chemical compound called Bisacodyl

Having had to use Fleet a while ago i do understand your pain!

Bella2020 · 18/07/2020 10:06

Awful, but I bet it was such a relief!

You have to be careful with constipation. If it gets so bad, it can stop you weeing and that's dangerous, apparently for your kidneys. Straight to A&E if that happens!

Bowerbird5 · 18/07/2020 10:09

Try natural liquorice instead. Lakeland sell it. You need to eat more veg and fruit and drink plenty of water. A couple ( no more) pieces of liquorice a day will help and better than taking medication. Consider allergies too. Dairy can often be a problem. I would try another GP.
