Did I hear that right that the west indies cricket team came to the UK on the 3rd june in the middle of a global epidemic and that's ok. I am in scotland and we cant even get in to see my 100year old granny yet in a care home which is fine . What the hell

What a load of ill informed ranting.
The circumstances in which you live during lockdown have absolutely no relevance to whether, how and when international cricket is played.

miss43 · 16/07/2020 21:45

I have not been ill informed, I know the cricket summer season tv rights are worth 180 million says it all.

That post doesn't change my opinion of your thread.

Ill informed ranting.

Anybody want to rant about ITV filming Dancing on Ice on 5th July when ice rinks aren't open (even for olympians) until 25th July.

timetobackout · 16/07/2020 21:59

I love these Aibu threads when everyone says yes you are being unreasonable and instead of accepting they might be wrong the OP gets ever more demented trying to prove how fair minded they really are.

ilovesooty · 16/07/2020 22:00

It would be difficult for the OP to sound more demented than she did from the beginning.

miss43 · 16/07/2020 22:12

Mumsnet does seem to be different from real life no one I know would say I was demented for thinking that cricketers actions being described as a sacrifice are valid .

What about all the other examples I gave of things that are commonly described as sacrifices? Or has covid changed the usage of the word so that only things as difficult as working in ICU during a pandemic now count?

FloresTorres · 16/07/2020 22:22

Is that awful Philip Schofield still involved? Otherwise, yay, crack on.

I'm just a little irked that indoor swimming pools aren't open yet, despite Swim England's best endeavours.
I'm a long way from boil my piss level, however.

This.

Just because someone else's sacrifice is bigger, doesn't mean theirs isn't valid.

I have a couple of health conditions that make life uncomfortable & difficult. Just because I CAN walk and cope with day to day life, and there are other people who are in much more pain and more disabled, doesn't mean my pain doesn't count. It still hurts, I'm still limited in what I can do, and feel I have every right to have the occasional moan about it even though it COULD be worse.

Seeline · 16/07/2020 22:33

I think the WI players are only on 50% of their salary, so there is some sacrifice going on there. I don't think any other sport has done that.

Great to have some cricket this summer, and great to see highlights on the Beeb. I know they were supposed to be showing some live cricket this summer - anyone know if that is still happening? Had a refund for my Hundred tickets ☹️

miss43 · 16/07/2020 22:37

But we are not talking about people with health problems we are talking about sports people doing their jobs . Health is completed different lots of variables. Hopefully words like sacrifice wont be used as much in the future when describing sports people etc unless to do with their health etc . I cant be the only one who finds it embarrassing

We have to get back to normal ASAP and having things like Test cricket which is such a big part of an English summer will help that massively

ilovesooty · 16/07/2020 23:57

I don't know why you keep on about cricket being played being embarrassing. I think I'd be embarrassed to carry on ranting about my piss being boiled. I don't think I know anyone in real life who gets so worked up about something they don't understand properly or uses that expression, let alone repeatedly.

tobee · 17/07/2020 00:25

Ooh I'm loving see all Mumsnet cricket fans coming out of the woodwork! Grin

I've spent large parts of lockdown watching Sky Cricket and all the repeats of various tests, on day games and blast and IPL!

I've got a repeat of a vlodcast on right now!!!

BackforGood · 17/07/2020 00:59

I have to agree with everyone else (well 95% according to the poll).

I love these Aibu threads when everyone says yes you are being unreasonable and instead of accepting they might be wrong the OP gets ever more demented trying to prove how fair minded they really are. same here timetobackout

Although we do tend to surround ourselves with folk that think similarly to ourselves. That's why it is so helpful to gain the opinions of other folk around the country (or even the world) who might be quite different from ourselves. I love MN for opening people's minds to different opinions.

Plus, of course, Scotland aren't exactly renowned as a cricketing country Wink

Totally agree @ilovesooty

OldGreyBoots · 17/07/2020 04:23

I find your posts embarrassing. And don't get me started on what they're doing to my urinary tract.

squeekums · 17/07/2020 04:31

@miss43

I understand it is their job and there may be restrictions they have had to take but you cannot call adhering to these restrictions a sacrifice that's an insult to all the medical staff who have been working during this crisis , and noone I know would call it that , prob the commentators fault for using that term. . Due to serious illness last year I haven't been out up till last week just garden . A friend lost two parents and a grandparent due to the virus that's hell
It is a sacrafice They have every movement monitored, If they like the AFL in aus, they tested every couple days Cant see family for the duration of stay, nor can family come like normal Aus footy players from victoria are looking at 10 plus weeks away from home. The AFL sees it as a sacrifice, so much so, they creating a wives and girlfriends hub for families.

Sounds like you just dont like cricket and are bitter some resemblance of normal is returning to peoples lives.

Trinketsfor20 · 17/07/2020 04:50

I am from a cricket mad country but I’m not infuriated at all actually by the OP. I find it hilarious the OP’s outrage and total misunderstanding of the situation - every post OP makes makes her sound progressively more unhinged Grin😂😂😂

JofraArchersFastestBall · 17/07/2020 05:21

It is such a joy to have TMS back on. Live cricket is a real pleasure for me and for many others and I am very grateful for the sacrifices made by the players, grounds people and journalists to put these matches on (Wink).

I'm sorry you've had a hard time OP, sadly so have I and many, many others. For me that just makes this little bio secure taste of normality more valuable. Clearly you don't like sport - fair enough, we don't all like the same things - but that doesn't mean it has no value.

Excellent to see the West Indies playing so well. I hope England can respond with a bit of grit. Enjoy the cricket today everyone!

caringcarer · 17/07/2020 05:24

Agree with @TeaAndHobnobs and Cottagepieandpeas I am thrilled it is back. I too have tickets for 4 test match days a 1DI and T20 finals day. It is great recreational cricket is back too. My foster son 14 is playing in his first adult match for his club this weekend coming. I am so excited for him.

If football is back so should cricket, a summer sport, be.

thedancingbear · 17/07/2020 06:33

I have not been ill informed, I know the cricket summer season tv rights are worth 180 million says it all.

Of which roughly half will go directly or indirectly into taxation, paying for healthcare etc.

thedancingbear · 17/07/2020 06:34

I cant be the only one who finds it embarrassing

Looks like you might be. Hasn't gone to plan this one, has it OP?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/07/2020 07:33

YABU

You clearly despise sport OP. That’s fine, but don’t try and spoil it for those of us who do. You sound such a misery.

I’m so happy that cricket is back. I’ve lost out on the matches I have tickets for but to have it to watch and listen to is bloody wonderful.

It’s good for morale, and very good for anyone working in the industry.

cantdothisnow1 · 17/07/2020 08:04

OP they are in a biometric bubble. They are not a danger to anyone and the sport is being played behind closed doors (which is a little strange as there are no crowds).

Joffra Archer (English player) broke the bubble and isn't allowed to play.

I'm not sure why you are getting wound up about this?
