Oh ffs
How precious !!

You must be of the everything offends generation .

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 16/07/2020 13:28

As someone who has a long history with eating disorders and is now very anti-diet, I would be fucking horrified if I received that.

But obviously I don't know the relationship you have with your PIL!

I would personally also complain to the designers/retailers who sell this card but again, I am an anti-diet culture campaigner. Other people might not be so offended!

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 16/07/2020 13:30

@DullDullWeather the OP did say it was sort of lighthearted Smile

But from the sounds of it, you sound like you're from the generation that think racist jokes are funny and then tell people to "lighten up for it was only a joke".

Jux · 16/07/2020 13:31

I would send that card without a second thought, because it's funny. If I received it I would think it was funny.

Strugglingtodomybest · 16/07/2020 13:36

It's a joke card. It's not meant to be taken seriously, otherwise I would point put that wine makes you just as fat as cake.

SerenDippitty · 16/07/2020 13:44

I honestly would not be offended by that card even though I could do with losing some weight!

Rwoolley · 16/07/2020 13:46

Goodness me

Maybe for next year someone can buy you a sense of humour for your birthday

KatharinaRosalie · 16/07/2020 13:49

If I sent it to my very slim sister, it would be funny. Sent to a person with a weight problem - insensitive at best, but probably intentionally rude.

Helendee · 16/07/2020 13:49

I find it amusing and would take it as meaning you like a drink!

1forAll74 · 16/07/2020 13:49

Not offensive, it's just another day, where some people are offended by anything and everything. You can't stop people sending cards that they choose, and like.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 16/07/2020 13:51

I'd send it to my daughter in law.

Devlocopop · 16/07/2020 13:51

I'd pretend it never arrived, unelss of course they hand delivered it.

Or just say you hadn't really clocked what it said as you had so many other important cards to read.

I would go low contact or no contact. What do they add to your life?

"Oh, are you offended?...but it's just a fucking joke like the one you sent to me "
Grin

Coulddowithanap · 16/07/2020 13:55

Its just a joke card.

I find it really sad that people get offended over silly things these days. Of course some people will find stuff funny that other people don't find funny.

MashedSpud · 16/07/2020 13:55

Make sure for their next birthday you choose one or more of their insecurities and find a card that suits.

In the meantime enjoy the wine and cake and sod them. 🍷 🍰 😋

mumfeelingguilty · 16/07/2020 13:55

I'm chunky, I'd laugh (and then attempt to eat cake with wine in each hand just for fun).

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 16/07/2020 13:56

Hahaha go no contact really ?
Sense of humour required here I think !

Unless I'm missing a whole backstory like op is a recovering alcoholic.

ISpeakJive · 16/07/2020 13:58

I’ve got quite thick skin and even I wouldn’t like that card!
When it’s their Birthday I really hope you send one equally as rude straight back at them!

Happy Birthday! Have a great year!

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 16/07/2020 13:59

I have the answer: bottle in one hand, glass in the other and have a good friend come over and feed you cake! Simples!

Zilla1 · 16/07/2020 14:00

OP, based on your follow up then you can judge how it is meant. Ignore the PPs who can't understand how humour can weaponised. Enjoy your birthday then let's hope they don't get offended if your PILs each receive an equally funny/ribald/derogatory card based on their characteristics, even if just a grim reaper card.

pallasathena · 16/07/2020 14:00

It's passive aggressive OP.
Designed to humiliate whilst masquerading as 'humour'.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 16/07/2020 14:01

Thats funny

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 16/07/2020 14:01

I think a lot of us probably get passive-aggressive greetings cards a lot of the time - I'm more annoyed by the waste of money now than the level of appropriateness but it's generally something that I already know about the sender.

StuffThem · 16/07/2020 14:01

I think in general if you have to make a choice about whether to be offended or not, then don't bother being offended. It's unpleasant and wastes your energy.

KetoIFWinnie · 16/07/2020 14:02

If you are overweight then id be a little offended
