To fill my BF's freezer with easy meals for her?

Hop27 · 16/07/2020 11:14

BF has just had a c-sec, her first baby. I want to make her some freezer dinners to make coming home easier for her and DH. (I've asked her, she has space and is very appreciative, but won't tell me what she'd like)
Thinking easy half cooked stuff she can finish in the oven or just reheat.
So far I have ....
breakfast muffins
Protein pancake slice
Soup
This 80's chicken and broccoli bake my mum makes (amazing)
Her favourite macaroni
Slow cooked beef
What else would you love, crave, be appreciative of at this time in your life?!

How lovely! Lasagna,casseroles,shepherds pie

MrsMozartMkII · 16/07/2020 11:16

What would I have craved? A friend like you!

Some desserts?

TerrifiedandWorried · 16/07/2020 11:18

Flapjack and cake

Cloudyapples · 16/07/2020 11:19

Bolognese
Beg for chicken stew/casserole

Cloudyapples · 16/07/2020 11:19

Beef not beg!

KingofDinobots · 16/07/2020 11:19

Flapjacks are great.

Think about being able to eat one handed while holding/feeding a baby. So nothing like soup.

mynameiscalypso · 16/07/2020 11:20

Does she like cooking generally? I had an ELCS but was still up and cooking dinner the day after because cooking is my therapy. I appreciate not everyone is like me though! That said, what I would have loved is freezer stashes of prepared veggies/proteins/carbs etc that I could pull together into what I wanted as chopping veggies was the most challenging thing. The other thing to consider is meals which you can eat with one hand. We had a lot of pasta, risotto, stew type things as one of us was generally having to hold baby while eating.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 16/07/2020 11:22

Curry, stew (beef or sausage and bean)

Ughmaybenot · 16/07/2020 11:22

This is so lovely! She’s lucky to have a friend like you.
I second the lasagne suggestion.

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 16/07/2020 11:24

Some lovely curry, mash potatoes, chilli, ratatouille. Don’t forget some nice pudding too.

AryaStarkWolf · 16/07/2020 11:24

Can I be your friend please? Grin

canigooutyet · 16/07/2020 11:25

I hope by the time this posts I'm not the first poster 🤣

Does she have any allergies or food intolerances?

Only thing I cared about was that food was quick and easy. Stuff that didn't need heating up was a must with the youngest, he was a "velcro" baby who seemed to want it or even hate others eating/drinking. Never worked it out either way!

Anything hot was zapped in the microwave under a watchful eye to avoid the ping.

It was a treat to sit down and eat a meal cooked fresh!! Even living with a partner, still rarely happened for either of us.

Hop27 · 16/07/2020 11:26

No allergies or intolerances !

Cookie dough in little balls!
You're a great friend!

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 16/07/2020 11:27

Bolognese sauce.
CAKE.....

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 16/07/2020 11:29

Cookie dough would be amazing, I usually make mine as a big batch but you could definitely freeze it & she could defrost a couple at a time to bake individually.

canigooutyet · 16/07/2020 11:30

Like @mynameiscalypso, I was up very quickly after having major abdominal surgery. Some ladies within the first 36 hours, others a couple of days. (something had gone wrong with surgery, so I was in longer than required).

Hop27 · 16/07/2020 11:31

She developed a huge sweet tooth durning pregnancy so maybe sweet stuff is a good idea !!

What a lovely thing to do Smile

Thurmanmurman · 16/07/2020 11:46

What a great friend you are OP! Curries, lasagne, chilli, pies.

Mulhollandmagoo · 16/07/2020 11:53

Lasagne/spag bol would have been amazing for me! or stew? or pie? pasties too.

Also yes, some sweet treats I'd have loved. you sound amazing :-)

Skigal86 · 16/07/2020 11:59

Dump dinners if she has a slow cooker, loads of recipes on pinterest, basically everything prepped for a slow cooker meal so all they need to do is defrost and chuck it in.

I also did microwave roast dinners for the freezer when I was pregnant.

If she likes sweet stuff there are some good freezable cookie recipes (or they also sell them in heron foods)

FraughtwithGin · 16/07/2020 12:02

Quiche and cake cut into slices, so she can just grab one or two slices as required.
Ditto coarse pate/meatloaf.
Thai fishcakes (or any other variation on fishcake theme) with a couple of helpings of parsley sauce.

Bluetrews25 · 16/07/2020 12:02

Lovely thing to do.
Brownies (gorgeous to nibble on when straight out of the freezer)
Carrot cake traybake (ditto - cut and wrap individual bites in clingfilm)
Do the kind of things her DH won't do.

Bluetrews25 · 16/07/2020 12:05

After all, you don't want to encourage DH to abdicate all responsibility in the kitchen you or her.
