We are due to move in a few months. We have long and quite expensive scaffold board shelving in our kitchen - AIBU to take it with us when we move?

If were included in pics of kitchen vendor would have thought they were part of kitchen. Just buy some more.

The other party's lawyer will send you a questionnaire to fill in. If you state these shelves are not included in the kitchen, there will be no argument about it later. You just have to clarify what is not included.

Findingapath · 17/07/2020 08:18

Unless they were part of a fitted kitchen which OP says there not then I certainly wouldn’t expect them to be left. Alot of buyers would probably take them down anyway. Is it too late the clarify on the fixtures and fitting list?
Our seller removed everything they could- including curtains poles and light fitting- which they had stated would stay on the fixtures and fittings list. That was annoying!! But a set of shelves is different, you wouldn’t be expected to leave a bookshelf unit that was tethered to the wall for safety.

You fill out a fixtures and fittings list and state what you are taking and what you are leaving

alig99 · 17/07/2020 11:55

You shouldn't but could if its on the list you supply yo the buyer of what you are taking, but if it was me that would be a deal breaker and you'd have to find another buyer and you could loose the house you are wanting to move too. Is it worth it??Hmm

Take them they are yours. Shelves are no different than taking a bookcase. Make good the screw holes when you remove with a bit of filler donuts ready for next owner to decorate and make sure it isn't on list. It's not the kitchen. When we bought our first house the last owner removed a whole kitchen shelving units which clearly was a part of the kitchen and left a mess underneath to fill. Supposingly they wanted it because it fitted perfectly in a gap in their new house. It had been on fixtures and fitting list but we didn't kick off we just had so.ething else made to fit there. They also had similar shelves to you in most rooms on photographs but it was made clear they wouldn't be leaving them. They are shelves and shelves are classed as a removable object. The ones they had in our house were the length of each wall in bedrooms and used for storage. They removed them all. They removed the three from kitchen and a pan hanger but like I said none of it was on fixtures and fitting list. Make sure you make it clear on their that the shelves are not included.

How are scaffold shelves expensive? We've just had a delivery to the allotment to make raised beds for two or three quid each. I can't see how sanding them adds that much value.

OneUsernameOnly · 19/07/2020 08:30

Ok thick question here - I love scaffolding shelves. Can I literally just order them from wickes or the like and sand them down and varnish them myself? Will they cut them to size or do I have to? Blush

Fudgemonkeys · 29/07/2020 19:24

If you excluded them on the fixtures and fittings list as staying you can take them but you must make good of the holes
