WWYD.. people sitting behind our garden

Hi as the title says really, for the past 4 or 5 days there have been some people meeting up behind our back garden, not a problem in general but they come from about 8/9 and still there at 1am.

I wouldn't mind if they were quieter tbh but they are so loud, singing sometimes and shouting over each other. I think they are having a drink together really.

The problem is my kids bedrooms are at the back and they have been waking a lot these past few nights, when they wouldn't normally.

It was getting to me, but didnt want to approach them as I don't know how they would react tbh.

But tonight I have just heard a child calling mum and heard crying so I looked out and could see a child of maybe 8? Shouting, dad says you must come home now, he sent me to get you. Then more shouting mum,mum. I am tired please come on!
All the while the mum and others are laughing as though it is all a big joke.
Kid then cries and I see a man,guessing his dad coming and taking the kid back home.

It made me feel really awful witnessing that.

What should I do, if anything?

I should add my childhood was a bit..turbulent. So I'm not sure if this really is such an awful thing or if I'm right in feeling it is just so wrong.

That was long! Sorry!

@BlankTimes

Put some weeds and/or grass clippings in a bucket of water
I once enthusiastically made some natural nettle fertiliser (nettles soaked in a lidded container)
Note I did it once Grin

I do it all the time with weeds before I compost them. My neighbours hate me 😂

Jeys Fluid is a much better idea. It is not filthy, and if anyone grumbles, you can say that the area smelt of urine (which is not unusual with late-night drinkers)

@mummmy2017
I love that idea but I would go one further , I would set up 4 or 5 radios in different inaccessible ( to them ) spots and use each one in turn to eavesdrop or join in the conversation. all OPs neighbours could do the same so there is 15 or 20 radios all joining in .

@Timechangeseverything
However you could be worst , you could have this issue , this thread went on for a couple of weeks and was voted for classics very quickly and oddly almost at the same time of year as yours .

Call the police anonymously.
I want to know what's behind your garden and why they want to sit there?! Grin

Wow thanks everyone!
So I think the something smelly is a good idea, and most popular 😆

I have gathered some nettles / weeds and soaked them since morning, should I just pour it where they normally sit?

There is flats behind our garden and car park, they are sitting just under some trees.

@alcalavicci I am sooo glad it's not that 😳

I feel so sorry for the child though.

Is it that the dad refused to put them to bed, do you think?

Yea same I do feel for the kid still..not sure what to think tbh.

I think I may water the area too in a few hours then hopefully it'll be too wet for them to sit there.

How's your evening so far @Timechangeseverything?

Light a bonfire. Your damp weeds will make it smoky when it gets going. Incinerator dustbin type burners are quite cheap to buy.

We have this as part of our neighbour's back garden is next to a park. They let kids play in the park while they smoke, drink beer and leave rubbish on our land. A large super soaker has done the trick several times.

Please don't call the police - this is a minor irritation and can be dealt with without involving them. Presumably they live in the flats so are not trespassing, just having a jolly time with no concern for their neighbours (you). Make the place stink so they move along the fence to become someone else's problem or set up a garden sprinkler that just over shoots your fence soaking where they usually sit. Leave it on all night for a couple nights so they know not to mess with you. The child calling for his dad is neither here nor there as presumably he was at home with mum? Don't sink to their level by using radios or other noise or your neighbours will be irritated! Good luck.

@lifestooshort123
In the first post it was a child calling out to his Mum not his Dad, asking his Mum to come home. The child was crying.
SadSo sad.
