Too many takeaways/deliveries?

It’s become clear to me over the past week that my neighbour has a big problem with the fact we get takeaways and deliveries. It was obvious to me when our delivery driver went to their house by mistake. Our doors are very close together so I heard her say ‘oh yeah it’s for them, they get them all the time’ in a nasty, sarcastic sounding tone. She’s clearly watching who and what comes to our house on a daily basis which is quite unnerving but I suppose there isn’t much else to do right now!

We have a 2 month old and a 4 year old. We’ve only just managed to get regular food delivery slots and we don’t have a car. DH commutes to work and works full time. We have takeaways once maybe twice a week when we’re exhausted or need a pick me up. I don’t get more than a couple hours sleep as newborn is very fussy. I cook us very fresh, healthy meals in general. Lots of proteins and veg. I’m a bodybuilder so am used to eating healthy and still do the odd workout when I get a bit of spare time.

We only get ‘healthier’ takeaways that serve fresh food like Nando’s and a local Greek place. We don’t get anything like Dominos or McDonald’s. We also use Ubereats and Deliveroo to get shopping from local shops such as baby milk and toilet roll. I tip at least £1 every time I order to give the delivery drivers extra cash during this pandemic. We have a double driveway so they’re not blocking anyone in or disrupting people. We don’t order them at antisocial hours either as we have small children.

We’ve just had a Nando’s as it fits my macros well for my diet. Our 4yo has a lot of veg with hers and no chips. Overheard the neighbour talking to her daughter when she was out front putting rubbish in her bin straight after (can see from my sofa) and she said what sounded like ‘they’re lazy and obviously can’t cook’. It’s really infuriating that she feels she has a right to comment on our eating habits. She’s also clearly doing it on purpose in earshot as she’s very loud as well. Wouldn’t surprise me if she went out to the bins on purpose to see what came to our house. I have no idea what they do or eat in their daily lives as I don’t have any time to be concerned, and I don’t care quite frankly!

Is a ‘healthy’ takeaway once or twice a week too much?

I realised it was a shit idea after I posted. I suppose it could be done by asking sex toy company not to use "discrete" packaging. I am wasting far too much time thinking about this

She just hasn't got a life. Ignore.
And you don't need to justify why you get takeaways or if you get the 'healthy' ones or not. People (apart from your sad case neighbour obv) don't really mind or care.

You don't have to justify to us MNers why you have takeaways delivered, it really doesn't matter, stop worrying about what your neighbour thinks.

I think it's lovely for you that you've maintained a good figure after two kids. It definitely makes life easier & less stressful. If I was her I'd definitely be envious that You have a great figure despite (seemingly) eating crap (takeaways). Enjoy what you have, while you have it - my overweight body is due to some medical issues and I hate it, I miss my pre illness body a lot)

I'm a bit worried that PND or sleep
deprivation are impacting your life more than you realise though. You've written an awful lot of 'justification' for ordering what YOU want, when YOU want it, just because of a neighbours comment.

She's rude & opinionated/nosy - don't give her another thought!! (nor some of the bitchy comments on here!).

@SmileyClare way to scare the shit out of the driver! Grin
Any chance delivery drivers are making a load of noise or parking right outside their house and leaving the engine running?
I couldn’t care less who in my street orders takeaways or gets deliveries. And they’re welcome to judge me all they like. Hey. I like wine. It’s easier to have it delivered through a subscription service. Grin

Have just thought of something. Order a huge vibrator, knock on neighbour's door and ask her " Have you any batteries for this?".

I'm going now...

@ImRealHonest

I’m currently working from home. Where I live, there’s 2 towers in the development, so 2 apartment with the same number. I’m tower 1, apartment X. Someone new has moved into tower 2, apartment X.

It’s not the number of take aways he’s getting that I’m judgemental of, it’s how often I’m getting his fucking deliveries. Seriously, on a single day last week, he got 3 lots of takeaway, the painters, a cleaning company, an at home manicurist, and 3 separate online orders. He may have had more - that’s just the ones that came to mine first. All whilst I’m trying to work.

If you’re ordering and things are Constantly going to theirs, you need to be more specific with your delivery instructions. If they’re constantly being disturbed, you can’t blame them for passing comment. It irritates the shit out of me.

That would’ve annoyed me too! Have you put a note on your door?

Ignore her. Life's too short. You don't have to gives two seconds thought to her or what she thinks. Enjoy your time with your young family, you don't have to justify how you do things!

This.
Between me and my ndn we get about 30 deliveries a week. One man further up tried to say something, but we just told him it's nothing to do with him. Our houses are clearly marked, no parcels go to the wrong address because we are in or if not we have safe spaces to leave stuff. No one is being disturbed so ftfo.

Same man told me to take my bins away round the back out of sight. Its lowering the tone or something. I laughed at him. And told him it's my garden and my bins and I will place them wherever I want to.

You obviously DO care OP and you DO have the time and inclination to be concerned about it.

That noseyness door swings both ways. You and neighbour are obviously keenly interested in what the other does/thinks. I don't personally understand but then again, I don't need to. It's your circus and monkeys.

You're entitled to live your life you see fit. Your neighbour is entitled to have her own opinions on what you do as long as she's not foisting them on you.

Start eating your lovely takeaway (with much relish and loudly) in your garden so your neighbour can overhear.

I wouldn't worry about it.

She's just jealous of your Nando's. Who can blame her?!

Yoi can content yourself with the fact that she must lead a very boring culinary life if overpriced dry chicken and soggy corn on the cob invokes feelings of jealousy

Quite frankly, if you had a Maccy D's five times a weekend Dominos the other two days, it is sod all to do with anyone else. You don't have to justify your choices.

Just take no notice.

If someone slim or toned was getting takeaways/staying in I am really very sure I would not notice those two things and see any disconnect or think anything of it....you are reaching there OP, sorry.

Neighbour does sound potentially odd and a bit rude but I would just ignore it.

What if she's not watching everything you eat and everything you do? What if her DD sees the packaging or the delivery drivers and keeps asking for takeaways so the DM is giving reasons for saying 'no' ie it's not healthy; they can't cook.
You're taking their habits very personally whilst accusing them of doing the same thing. Enjoy your baby and your takeaways. Stop stressing about issues you're imagining into being.

Your neighbour probably feels sorry for you and your family having to live off takeaways when you could be cooking and eating more nutritious and tasty food. Wink

If you see someone that is physically fit eating takeaways often and rarely leaves the house you’re generally going to think ‘how are they not fat’.

What because they eat a takeaway twice a week?

Don't be ridiculous
