To self isolate?

DD's father returned her to me this morning and said, "she has a cold. She was up all night with a barking cough." (He brought her to me by Tube and did not inform me beforehand that she was ill Hmm)

DD is sniffly, has red eyes, and is coughing a lot. She is 3 years old.

Obviously these seem like cold symptoms but I realise I'm no GP. I have ordered Covid tests and I'm ready to bunker down until we receive the results - but I feel no one else is taking things this seriously. AIBU? Am I going overboard?

YANBU

what a fucking irresponsible moron your husband is. I hope your daughter tests negative for your and her sake and for the sake of everyone on the Tube!

SengaStrawberry · 12/07/2020 17:07

Ex partner sorry

SengaStrawberry · 12/07/2020 17:08

And of course you aren’t going overboard . She has a cough. You are following government guidance.

happylittletree · 12/07/2020 17:08

He's definitely a gaslighting arsehole. Part of me feels like I'm going overboard due to his blasé attitude, but realistically he just didn't want to have to self-isolate with her so he convinced himself that she has a cold

Not only are you NBU, but you actually must self isolate until at least the results come in. 7 days for her, 14 for you (I realise she’s probs not going anywhere without you anyway!). The tests are inaccurate and I believe the advice is to self isolate anyway.

AccountAntsy · 12/07/2020 17:09

It most likely is just a cold but the advice in these circumstances is still to self isolate because of the new persistent cough. Hope she feels better soon.

roxfox · 12/07/2020 17:12

Gosh sounds stressful.

Sounds like croup. Barking cough, worse at night?

Grobagsforever · 12/07/2020 17:15

@cardibach Please don't post incorrect information key board warrior style.

If the test is negative self isolation can end. THATS THE ENTIRE POINT OF TESTING SO THE COUNTRY DOESNT GRIND TO A HALT EVERY-TIME SOMEONE SNEEZES

happylittletree · 12/07/2020 17:16

Someone has voted that IABU. Please could you explain your rationale!?

Why is it necessary to shut to make a point? It's rude.

OP I hope your daughter feels better soon.

ilovesooty · 12/07/2020 17:31

shout

Indoorcamping · 12/07/2020 17:37

Definitely isolate. Hopefully it's just a cold and you'll both test negative but your ex is a selfish knob. I guess that's why he's an ex.

Littlecaf · 12/07/2020 17:38

The point of testing is so we can get back to normal and NOT self isolate for 14 days after a negative result!

Go to a drive in centre if you have one near. DS had a temperature. Booked an appointment at 6.30 on a Sunday evening for 7pm. Was home by 8pm. Negative test result text to me by 5.05am Monday. We all carried on. It’s really THAT easy.

happylittletree · 12/07/2020 17:39

I don't have a car. I ordered the tests to be delivered to my home.

You are doing the right thing. Hope your wee one is better soon.

happylittletree · 12/07/2020 18:50

@roxfox yes, I would describe this as crouplike symptoms. Now has a 38.4 temp

@ilovesooty

Because I cannot people making things up just to shit stir...

Littlecaf · 12/07/2020 19:21

@happylittletree - sorry I wasn’t “shouting” at you, just your ex who seem oblivious that we’re in a pandemic. I’ve had a few people say similar Type of things “it’s just a cough, self isolating is silly” etc when it can take less than 24hrs to be sure it isn’t COVID. Makes me so mad!

Catmaiden · 12/07/2020 19:29

I suggest you add this to the list of things he's done in the past with contact. Public transport with a symptomatic child? Not good.

Soubriquet · 12/07/2020 19:30

It’s much more likely to be a cold or something along those lines, but ordering a Covid test is a good idea anyway.

Hopefully it’s negative

Still rude. You don't know it was intended to shit stir either.

contrary13 · 12/07/2020 23:33

It may well be hayfever. Or a stye, referencing the red eye(s). My son has suddenly developed a stye, and looks like he has a black eye. It's hayfever based. Not Covid-19. To do with tree-pollen.

happylittletree · 13/07/2020 00:06

Just called my insurance helpline and the nurse said we should self-isolate (among many other things - fortunately, she is not terribly worried about my daughter's symptoms)

happylittletree · 14/07/2020 19:28

Test negative! Now I feel that I was overreacting.Shock
