To ask for help with my burning fanjo

Tootsey11 · 12/07/2020 13:16

Posting for traffic so please don't shoot me down.

9 weeks ago my bits down below started burning. As I had just had 2 courses of antibiotics for coronavirus, I presumed I had thrush. Went to the chemist and got the one time tablet. Did nothing. Then reading on here the thread 'my vagina stinks' as mine seemed a little strong I thought it must be BV. Went to the chemist bought the test and gels. Test was negative, but after reading that they were not accurate, used the gels anyway. I got instant relief and all was fine for 3 days, then the burning returned.

Since that doctor has taken swabs, clear.
Urine tests, clear.

I've had antibiotics for bv, still the same
2 more capsules for thrush, still the same.

The burning has shifted somewhat to the skin on my legs around vag. The hollows that you get when you sit down if that makes sense.

I should say I am 44 nearly 45 and use vagifem as I was presumed to be menopausal. I was tearing inside during sex and after nurse had a look was advised to use these.

I haven't worn underwear in all this time as it hurts the skin on my legs, and have lived in jogging bottoms as they are loose.

Can anyone advise, re the burning, as it is getting me down so much. I cannot carry on like this.

@cptartapp
That's an idea, diabetes can cause an itchy fanny. It's to do with glucose coming out in your wee, I understand.

huuunderickssss · 12/07/2020 21:31

Have you tried this ? I had an itchy foof for ages and tried everything . One application of this and it was gone . I saw someone recommend it on here .

Sorry have not rtwt but I need to use vagifem and also a touch of ovestin on the outside too

SodaSodaBanana · 12/07/2020 21:38

Just finished some strong antibiotics and it gave me thrush, more like burning nappy rash, down my thighs.
Dr Google says to keep putting cream on it for 2 weeks to make sure you’ve caught it all. 1 week so far and it’s so much better.

isadoradancing123 · 12/07/2020 21:45

I second trying Eumovate

RedLlama · 12/07/2020 21:49

Certain types of antibiotics can cause nerve damage, and this can cause pain, normally a burning or tingling feeling. Visually there is nothing wrong, and swabs and tests will come back negative.

This would be known as vulvodynia, which is a catch all for unexplained gynaecological pain.

Tamalama · 12/07/2020 22:09

@Justnotfeelingit

Jeez, I’m useless. I give up. I was trying to quote the person saying the fanny police had turned up.
😂😂😂
MarleyBarley18 · 12/07/2020 22:13

I had that when I was younger and my mum (who didn’t have her glasses on) gave me tiger balm after I was itching like mad. As you can imagine I was howling and warm water made it worse. Have you tried any steroid cream? Perhaps hydrocortisone the 0.5% one. Hope you solve the issue and don’t use tiger balm whatever you do!!!

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 12/07/2020 22:17

I get this every couple of months and I'm convinced its hormonal.Im 40.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 12/07/2020 22:21

Just to add my dr mentioned vulvodynia and recommended taking 20mg of amiltryptiline daily at night to ease the discomfort it actually hasn't come back since taking

DarkChocolateMint · 12/07/2020 22:24

This is a total shot in the dark here but have you tried athletes foot cream at all. "Jock itch".... i know your case sounds alot more extreme but mabye woth a try! Get well soon x

Tootsey11 · 12/07/2020 22:48

Some of your comments are making me smile Smile.

Lots of you mentioning itching. It doesn't itch, it just burns 24 hours a day. More on the skin around the vagina. It looks slightly pale, otherwise normal. But in the last few days labia have gotten thinner. I've used adex gel tonight for moisture, vagifem and ovestrin.

I'm starting to walk like bloody John Wayne!

When I had Coronavirus I had a burning anus, for some reason. Especially at the beginning and end of a fairly long infection.

Spidey66 · 12/07/2020 23:24

I may have missed something but why were you prescribed ABs for coronavirus? They don’t work on viral infections. Did you end up with a secondary bacterial infection or have an underlying health issue meaning this was more likely so they were given to prevent this?

Spidey66 · 12/07/2020 23:26

@MarleyBarley18
Ouch!

MiniMum97 · 12/07/2020 23:30

I second going to GU clinic. They are the experts in all things fanjo related (and to any fanjo police who may be reading, as a fully formed adult woman I will call my genitalia whatever the tuck I like thank you).

If they don't know ask to be referred to a dermatologist. .

I had what was thought to be recurrent thrush. Many GPs (one who said I would just have to put up with it!!!!) and swabs and treatments (there are many many more treatments for thrush than the normal tablets, creams, pessaries. I had two courses of hardcore Itaconazole for instance. No joy there but they were making, very thorough, lots of swabs, full STI and non STI work up. They weren't giving up!

Then they went for a biopsy. This indicated possible eczema.

Referred to dermatologist who literally looked at my vag for about 2 seconds and said it's seborrheic dermatitis!

My symptoms were different to yours but.my point is don't accept the GP saying they don't know. There's a lot more that can be fine to find out what the problem is.

Suzie6789 · 12/07/2020 23:31

Could it be a horrible corona virus side effect? I’ve read that people can get nerve pain afterwards?

I mistakenly bought some ‘fresh lightly scented’ loo roll, and it burned and stung like mad. The pain and rawness lasted a week after only 1 days use.

trashcanjunkie · 12/07/2020 23:31

Sorry if I’ve missed this but are you under gynaecology or just a gp? I would seek an urgent referral if not already under a specialist.

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 13/07/2020 06:50

If it's 'fusing, burning and pale' and oral anti fungals haven't worked it's almost certainly LS

Tootsey11 · 13/07/2020 09:55

Well, got up this morning and down there felt somewhat normal. I used the adex gel all over last night so this has helped. But, as soon as I peed this morning, when the pee touched my skin on my legs, the burning is slowly returning. But the labia are not stuck together and the whole area is better looking.

Everything is shut here today as it is a public holiday, so have to wait to hopefully see Gp again tomorrow.

For those who asked, I am under a gynaecologist, but as I said the time frame is long. Even with an urgent referral.

I have made a list of all the suggestions from everyone which are greatly appreciated. I know some say don't take advice from a crowd of strangers, but sometimes someone who went through the same symptoms may just give the Gp a lightbulb moment.

I have atrophy and LS lucky me. I self diagnosed after reading up on it and took myself to the GP who agreed with me instantly so I now use Vagifem, Ovestin externally and Dermovate steroid cream for the LS. I was in pieces earlier this year but now much more comfortable and my GP has told me to use the Dermovate every day if I need to to keep things on an even keel. Yes VM is great too and doesn’t cause irritation.

I’m a member of the VA and LS closed groups on FB and compared to some my issues are very minor but the advice and support is invaluable. Problems like this are very lonely things because it’s not something it’s easy to talk about.

Inforthelonghaul · 13/07/2020 10:27

I suspect that many GPs are totally in the dark about LS and think that VA is just something that happens with age and we have to get on with it and that men really don’t understand how it can affect a woman. I was very lucky that my GP has an interest in dermatology and had had recent discussions with a vulval dermatologist on this very subject. She still won’t let me use Vagifem or Ovestin more than twice a week though.
