To think the drunk mind speaks the sober truth?

Genuinely, who thinks when they’ve had one two many shandy’s they are their most honest selves? Not absolutely black out offensive drunk obviously. But I feel like I have these most amazing ideas about my future when I’ve had a few Gins and then I get up in the morning and I’m like, there’s no way on this planet I can do that!

The last one being I'd make a fortune on YouTube doing tarot readings. I don't even have any cards

Lol same. Only I told everyone e my plans to run as a member of Parliament! It seemed like such a great idea after a vat of gin. Needless to say, when sober I realised what a shit idea it was

Macncheeseballs · 12/07/2020 09:39

But a part of you thinks its s good idea

Ginnyrellas · 12/07/2020 10:02

@Russellbrandshair that’s brilliant haha! I remember telling everyone (when I was much much younger) I was going to take my shot and audition for the Xfactor. Then I woke
Up and remembered although I can hold a solid note I’m probably the most mediocre singer in the world 😂

All alcohol does is stop your brain from working as it should, particularly the prefrontal cortex, which is what leads people to become less inhibited and less able to rationalise, respond to environmental stimulus and make sound decisions.

Some things people say when drunk are very true and honest and some are complete lies.

D4rwin · 12/07/2020 16:33

It brings down "socially acceptable" barriers, so things you wouldn't normally do or say come out. But I don't think it changes people, it just unleashes the inner bitch/ insecurities etc. My alcoholic parent was always an arsehole whether on or off the booze.

KetoWinnie · 12/07/2020 16:38

Not sure. The 'truth' that spills out of a drunk is like the drunk person is playing the piano reading one line of music only. But sober you are always look at both lines and considering them together.

Not sure that is a good analogy.

But i know sometimes that the drunk "truth" that has comes out of me is only the truth if i completely disregard some things that when im sober i know are important

BogRollBOGOF · 12/07/2020 16:42

I tend to be a happy drunk, but am happy anyway. (Or a sleepy drunk if wine is involved!). It tends to unleash my silly, giggly repressed inner teenager, and it does me good to do that occasionally- like annually!

It is still me, just less constrained by tedious grown-upping.

We had a rare family piss-up last year and it got to 3am when some deep stuff came out between a couple of relatives and it wasn't the issue they'd stewed on for years. Some people should avoid alcohol, but sometimes it can help clear the air and be bonding.

hardboiledeggs · 12/07/2020 21:59

Nope don't agree. I've said loads of things drunk that I honestly did not mean or had ever thought.

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 12/07/2020 22:01

Nope, very embarrassed to say I’ve talked some absolute shite & bollocks after a few on occasion😳🙈...

Macncheeseballs · 12/07/2020 22:14

Nah, if you say 'shit' when you're drunk, somewhere deep inside is a part of you that believes it

Chocolateandamaretto · 12/07/2020 22:21

Nope, total bullshit merchant when drunk!

firstmentat · 12/07/2020 22:27

I’m definitely less boring when I’ve had a drink. Convince myself I’m going to sell up everything and go travelling every time.
Exactly the reason why I've been strategically drinking* every night when I was working on my doctoral school application recently. I also had a drink before I had the interview.
I got in, now figuring out what to do with it sober. Grin

*by drinking I mean a glass of wine, not a bottle of vodka.

ALongHardWinter · 12/07/2020 22:29

Well there is a saying in Latin that goes 'In vino veritas'. It literally means 'In wine lies the truth'.

There being a saying in Latin doesn't make it true! All sorts of bollocks was written in Latin. It often just means that someone once wanted to give their opinion an air of authority.

When I'm drunk, I know very well that what I'm saying isn't true. I just don't care. I'm also usually annoyed because after my second drink I just want to go home

I agree. Just because it’s Latin doesn’t make it true lol. I know I’ve talked rubbish when drunk that I really didn’t agree with when sober

DarkmilkAddict · 14/07/2020 21:16

I think it caries by person.

I'm me when drunk, but chattier and more impulsive. Xh gets (got) more serious and lost his sense of fun. I used to think it was as if that part of his brain just shut down. Spoiled many a fun night.

Truth... I tend to think yes probably.

DarkmilkAddict · 14/07/2020 21:17

Varies by person

Loveinatimeofcovid · 15/07/2020 14:09

I’m completely bonkers when drunk, I say completely mad things.

AryaStarkWolf · 15/07/2020 14:13

Maybe a bit of both, sometimes you might feel braver to speak your mind but mostly it's just drunken waffle

Imissmoominmama · 15/07/2020 14:14

No. I speak utter bilge when I’m drunk.

Imohsotired · 15/07/2020 14:27

Sometimes I tell the truth, sometimes I just make up completely random stories.

My best drunk moment was to announce to my work team I was planning on running the annual marathon in our city. I ended up running the bloody thing. That was 100% not my truth.
