To think the drunk mind speaks the sober truth?

Genuinely, who thinks when they’ve had one two many shandy’s they are their most honest selves? Not absolutely black out offensive drunk obviously. But I feel like I have these most amazing ideas about my future when I’ve had a few Gins and then I get up in the morning and I’m like, there’s no way on this planet I can do that!

As @Butterer said, it’s a lack of inhibition rather than an increase in honesty.

madcow88 · 11/07/2020 22:40

I tell some right porkies when I'm drunk..... and I mean some right porkies.

NoProblem123 · 11/07/2020 22:41

‘Just Do It’ - my motto after a few.

Before a few ‘plan, plan and then sleep on it. Then forget all about it and throw those damn plans away!’.

Think I prefer the slightly drunk me. Life’s actually pretty short.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/07/2020 23:02

Nah. I texted my ex last weekend after too many drinks. I have absolutely no interest in getting back with him, I was just bored.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 11/07/2020 23:04

@madcow88 - oh go on tell us some...

saltycat · 11/07/2020 23:08

In Vino Veritas.

Never a truer word was spoken IMO.

Okayokayok · 11/07/2020 23:19

I have a tendency to get extremely excited about ridiculous things when I'm tipsy/drunk (I also have all these ideas on ways I'm going to decorate my entire house knowing full well I cant afford it 😂 )

I wouldnt say I'm more honest when drunk but I am alot more....optimistic/slightly deluded. I remember waking up one morning and remembering I got this amazing idea to try and arrange to put a deposit down on a £650pound kitten Blush

2Rebecca · 11/07/2020 23:28

Most people are less pleasant when drunk. Few people change totally but many people are more aggressive and argumentative and some more amorous. I don't tend to believe people who say something/ behave a certain way when drunk and then say they didn't mean it because I think it just makes you less inhibited, they are still your thoughts and words and ideas.

LimeHookSinker · 11/07/2020 23:42

I don’t think the drunk mind is honest - I think you just end up spouting out all old bullshit that springs to your mind and removes the filter.

Think about when you wake in the morning after saying something stupid - there are definitely occasions where I’ve overshared, but there are several where I’ll think ‘why did I say that? I don’t even believe that!’

BettyBoozle · 11/07/2020 23:54

I will admit I speak some truths when drunk but usually in a horrible, obnoxious or inappropriate way. And other times I speak absolute fucking shite Grin

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 11/07/2020 23:57

They do say that leggings, small children and drunks speak nothing but the truth op!

Nottherealslimshady · 11/07/2020 23:59

No, my real self is sober me. Drunk me is a dick and is why I dont drink much anymore.

WhoisRebecca · 11/07/2020 23:59

Hmm I think alcohol can exaggerate how I’m feeling. So there’s usually a nugget of truth, but imagined slights can become huge misdemeanours and it all gets out of control.

Bettysprocker · 12/07/2020 00:04

As someone who is teetotal but still socialises with people who drink, I find that people are rarely who they think they are when they've had a few and their recollection is rarely an accurate one.

hadtojoin · 12/07/2020 00:20

I just tend to get giggly and flirty when I've had a few which is not how I am when sober. I rarely drink these days though.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 12/07/2020 08:02

Only leggings, small children and drunks tell the truth!

CrappilyMarriedNoMore · 12/07/2020 08:39

@EdersonsSmileyTattoo

Only leggings, small children and drunks tell the truth!
Haha exactly this 😂😂
Yesitsthethruth123 · 12/07/2020 08:40

Nope. I talk absolute bollocks when drunk and am not honest at all, in fact i'm often very dramatic. Also buy things online I don't want or need and have 'fantastic' ideas. The last one being I'd make a fortune on YouTube doing tarot readings. I don't even have any cards.

It's a myth that people are their 'real selves' when drunk. It's a poisonous intoxicant which effects the way your brain and body functions. You're no more your 'real self' on alcohol than you are on any other drug.

Macncheeseballs · 12/07/2020 08:43

Humans are multifaceted creatures, getting drunk will bring out one aspect of your personality, however much you may want to disown that part of yourself! Unhappy people are generally unhappy drunks and happy people are happy drunks, this state can change throughout your life of course

Ginnyrellas · 12/07/2020 08:51

@LonginesPrime
There’s no way I could meet the hour requirements at the moment. Once my daughter is in secondary school I would be able to pursue it. Which gives me the time to train up and take the courses I need to do. 😁

Awesome, OP - so your drunk mind has helped you - sounds like you've worked out a solid plan!

Good luck!

Dumbie · 12/07/2020 09:10

Nope, complete rubbish. Especially the 'when you are drunk you are your true self'. No, you're your drunk self.

Macncheeseballs · 12/07/2020 09:11

Your drunk self is still part of you

winterisstillcoming · 12/07/2020 09:16

I'm an honest drunk. I literally sit there holding my mouth closed!

OP make sure you've had wine when you write your CV. It will be awesome!

Babochan88 · 12/07/2020 09:34

Nope! Told some crazy lies whilst drunk!
