AIBU?

To think my body is rotting as I get older? (TMI)

Sorry this is a bit gross. I was just thinking.... not that I'm planning to, but if I ever end up single, I'd be in trouble. Aside from the weight slowly creeping up which I'm ok with really .... everything else just feels a bit gross as I'm getting older !
-I fart more, get constipated more, body hair is spreading and more difficult to manage. I get dry crusty skin on my feet, morning breath is worse and takes a lot of flossing and hygienist visits to keep on top of (o swear it wasn't an issue 20 years ago ! My periods feel messier and (sorry) smellier and I have to shower more regularly during this week.

Has anybody else noticed this type of thing? AIBU to think my body is rotting ? (I'm almost 40) it's taking a lot more effort these days to keep on top of!

@MrDarcysMa so it could be a dairy intolerance, or a gluten intolerance, or your body just struggling with being overweight as you get older.

I do think when you're young, you can "get away" with being overweight, but as you get older, your body can't support it anymore without struggling somewhere.

I do think you'd feel better if you lost the weight - maybe do that before you try and rule out any intolerances. I've recently lost a stone and a half and the difference in my mood and overall health is incredible. And I wasn't drastically overweight before - I'm now back in the healthy range.

@draughtycatflap ironically I'm very flexible because of the exercise I do. But I really don't want to look that closely at my genitals as a result of the aforementioned things 😂😂😂

Oh no my nose is a bogey factory too. I wonder if the bogeys are bigger because our noses get bigger as we age? Mine doesn't look like a very big nose. Sometimes it's like silly string it just keeps coming and I worry where it's all coming from [/quote]
That's due to air pollution, in my opinion.

I get the big bogeys too. I had associated it with my underactive thyroid as that slows everything down including mucus clearance. Perhaps it's just ageing.

I have no thyroid issues so not that for me

Air pollution sounds likely! We live on and walk on main roads a lot.

@SerenDippitty I hadn't thought of it being thyroid related, I started thyroxine two years ago. And possibly pollution.

@MrDarcysMa Your constipation before a period- this is well known ( or should be!)

Progesterone in the 2nd half of the cycle has a sedative/ slowing down action on the body including the gut. So food doesn't pass through it so fast.

You can improve things by drinking more water and staying hydrated or the old classic of some prunes that week with your morning oaty stuff.

The daily chocolate is bad news- oodles of sugar in it and also caffeine in chocolate. One square a day of 80% cocoa solids is your limit! Drop that choc bar and in a year the weight should fall off- you are possibly adding 250-300 cals a day and over a year that's a lot of weight.

Ive not noticed anything so far, I am 46.
my periods have become quite rare, and lighter.

significantly I do have a couple of wayward hairs on my face but just get shut of them with scissors regularly.

I'm surprised nothing else has happened yet, and hope it doesn't come on all sudden like an avalanche Grin

my hair has gone a bit darker (blonde) and my face is less toned, but that's it so far.
I do have OBS though and it is way worse than it ever was. that could be stress or something else though, not simply age.

bad breath in morning can be from nasal drip, especially in summer. have a look into that.

for those with humour bypass (an MN speciality) I think she said rotting in a sort of dark humour way. chill your tits.

I have porridge made with water every day with a banana for breakfast, Oats are high in minerals & antioxidants, combat cholesterol & are good for constipation.

A study on nursing home residents showed those given oats every day needed less laxatives.

I don’t have chocolate due to a cows milk allergy but I use cacao for hot choc every day after lunch. One spoon cacao, two sugar, pinch salt. It satisfies and has high antioxidants levels too.

As we age, we are what we eat and use

So the old days of alcohol , junk food and supermarket cosmetics is not sustainable

To age well I have to eat right , sleep right , exercise , not smoke and use natural cosmetics

Even minor blips result in UTI , thrush , back ache , head ache

Also for periods try Mooncup , it’s the sanitary products that make the stink Envy

@JinglingHellsBells

It’s the porridge that’s laxative, I just have bananas because their easy to chop at 6:30am. I don’t have to use a sharp knife.

I am not to be trusted with a sharp knife at that time 😀

I can relate to some of that OP.

The hard skin on my feet is harder to shift.

Since having a baby my period... stinks.

I get strange BO around my boobs sometimes. It must be hormonal as the only other time in my life I have had this is when I was breastfeeding.

Isn't ageing delightful? The best thing that can be said about it is that it is better than the alternative.

I have one stray hair on my boob. When I’m eating sugar and refined carbs regularly it grows quickly. When I stop and eat clean it stops growing. I can literally see the effect sugar and refined carbs have on the hormones that regulate this stuff.

It's really shocking when you can see/experience the difference in your body within a few days isn't it, paradise?

I wish I'd known all this sooner.

I vaguely remember a book in the 70s about white sugar as a poison - John Yudkin?

"Pure, White and Deadly" - that's the one Viginti

I now make the ‘omph’ noise when I sit down. The noise I used to take the piss out of my parents for making. Sitting down feels good.

It does feel good, doesn't it?

I've come back from the optician

My eyes require a new prescription, the varifocal lenses alone are going to cost £260 per frame and the optician has freaked me out by saying my lenses are starting to crystallise. Shock

When I asked if it was the start of cataracts, he 'reassured' me by saying that it was far too early to say 'cataracts' and it may not come to that.

I'm trying to save my back and bending at the knees to get to my laces and what I've dropped on the floor.

My knees are now painful.

I really need to lose about 30kg (about 4 stones 10.5 pounds) - I'm fat, over fifty and I'm breaking down.

Nope. I don't think given the absolute contempt older women are treated with in this society calls for much humour really.
(women become "older" at 39 year old, men much later..) think it's horrible, so many young-ish women being so disgusted by their own bodies. Some of the comments about old people and dogs stinking... Jesus. Hmm
My Nan lived to be very old, she smelled nice. I remember helping her have a bath and thinking how nice her skin still was.
OP your diet sounds really healthy. You might be intolerant to something maybe?

Perhaps this thread is supposed to be lighthearted....maybe ? Or maybe not. I'm in the older age group and I really hate this attitude that you "rot" as you get to this age. You don't, honestly, and its irksome to hear younger women talk like this.

If you smell, wash yourself more often. If your skin isn't the way you like it, do something about it. Just like you did when you were young. And stop with the ageism, OK ?
