AIBU?

To think my body is rotting as I get older? (TMI)

Sorry this is a bit gross. I was just thinking.... not that I'm planning to, but if I ever end up single, I'd be in trouble. Aside from the weight slowly creeping up which I'm ok with really .... everything else just feels a bit gross as I'm getting older !
-I fart more, get constipated more, body hair is spreading and more difficult to manage. I get dry crusty skin on my feet, morning breath is worse and takes a lot of flossing and hygienist visits to keep on top of (o swear it wasn't an issue 20 years ago ! My periods feel messier and (sorry) smellier and I have to shower more regularly during this week.

Has anybody else noticed this type of thing? AIBU to think my body is rotting ? (I'm almost 40) it's taking a lot more effort these days to keep on top of!

For soles of the feet blue Nivea in the small pot is ace. Not any smellier no. If u chew on a fresh sprig of parsley it is great for the breath.

The irony of getting older is just as you find yourself less able to stretch and contort your body you suddenly find yourself needing to Immac your own bumhole... 🙁

No! I am in my mid fifties. I am the same weight as I have always been (other than when pregnant) and have more energy than in my 30's (young children then). I am fit and don't really feel too different from when I was in my 20's, apart from the grey hair which I love as it's more wiry and holds its shape better.

I think you need to get a grip now, OP, because how you are feeling is more likely to be down to lifestyle than ageing.

I'm nearly 40 and not my experience. Is it a diet thing?

I know what you mean, but one thing I'd say is try drinking more water (pure water, filtered water). I know, obviously, that won't affect things like body hair but I do think a lot of us walk around quite badly dehydrated and that can contribute to some of the things you've mentioned.

I hope your health is good apart from those things :)

This is bonkers - you're only 39!! I'm 51 and apart from an unwanted Lockdown 10lbs and disappearing eyebrows I can't relate at all! Def cut back on sugar if you can and exercise if you are not already doing so but seriously at not even 40 you are still a young woman in the prime of your life!

It could be a sugar I guess but my diet isn't that bad. Minimal processed food, I cook. Eg dinners this week have been veg chick pea tagine, Greek salad, and home made burgers last night. I don't live off takeaways but could cut down dairy and sugar I suppose if that's the cause. But then I've always eaten these things ?!

I feel I should point out, this is meant to be light hearted, and I'm sure people don't identify me as a smelly troll when I walk down the street. I take good care of myself. I exercise a lot. It just seems to take soooo much more effort to look like I did 10 years ago!

I've just turned 60 and I've felt I'm rotting from the inside out since I was about 55. I noticed only yesterday that, even though I'd only just stepped out of the shower, all wet, that my groin stank of acrid, rancid sweat - it had only just been washed 2 mins earlier. Sad Strangely, my chest area under my boobs is the same. And I only have to slightly exert myself and my head is soaking in sweat.

Pilates. I do it every week, via zoom at the moment. It’s great. Also bought a set of resistance bands off Amazon and do a workout every day. I’m 59 btw.

The other thing I'd like to add is that our bodies aren't forever and time gets us all. Just try to enjoy each day if you can. I am in quite a lot of pain every day and can't walk very far and the thing that has helped me the most is looking for very simple things I enjoy and feel grateful for, e.g. being able to go outside, a nice meadow, etc.

Yes it takes ore effort, but it is possible.

Eat a good diet, exercise, stay hydrated, keep a good weight.

I am 20 years older than you OP and certainly don't feel that I am rotting. I am in good shape and feel fit and youthful.

Have you had your thyroid function tested recently?

It’s just a different set of challenges.

I use driclor now, heavier body creams, eat healthier. It’s just a different life phase.

I exercise a lot, I'm fit and flexible, eat well, drink LOADS of water and I'm heavier than I used to be but only about a stone and a half (I'm very tall so it doesn't really show) Basically this post wasn't about weight.

Jesus. I lost all patience with this when I realised you were still in your 30s! Stop hating yourself. Stop worrying about ageing - at all, but particularly while you are still a young person.

In truth I thought you were going to say you were 60+ not 39!

Good grief you are still a child!

I don't recognise any of that and I'm over 60.

Sounds as if you need to work on your lifestyle

healthy diet with masses of fruit and veg
low sugar
low/ no booze
daily exercise
plenty fluids to stop constipation

Feet- give yourself a weekly pedicure

Showers- do you not shower daily anyway regardless of periods?

Body hair- again, bit of weekly grooming

Basically, start taking care of yourself and stop thinking you are old!

Oh and another one to add, my hair is dry and frizzy from the years of heat styling and highlights now. I'm in a trap where I've stopped heat styling to try and undo the damage but it looks like frizzy witch hair !

I think my sense of smell has got more sensitive. Maybe.

@justanotherneighinparadise how much crap do you find a problem? What I mean is I know what is an awful diet, I know what an ideal one might look like, but I don’t know where a reasonable point to aim for is. How little crap do you find you need to eat to make the difference?

@SerenDippitty, I have recently started Pilates - on day 14 of a 30 day programme and loving it, feels like it's really working and stretching my body but in quite a gentle way. I do various different types of exercises but this feels more beneficial than many of the more cardio based activities and, at 51, it feels like something I can keep doing foe many more years yet!

If you stink 2 mins after getting out of the shower you need to proceed as follows:
Review your showering technique. Are you one of the weirdos on here who won’t use a flannel or shower puff and don’t actually wash anywhere but armpits because ‘the soap runs over everything else’.
If you are satisfied you are actually washing yourself and not just standing under water for a minute, then consult your doctor. That’s not normal. I can’t even imagine how it’s possible, never mind normal.

Also @JinglingHellsBells what’s your definition of ‘low’ wrt sugar. If you could give this as a ‘slices of cakes‘ measure, that would be great 😂

I am 46. I don’t feel that way apart from more body hair. It sounds a bit much. The breath And stomach problems could be caused by a bacteria called Elicobacter. It could also be candida or food intolerances.

Do you take probiotics? Vitamins? Excercise? Eat well?

I would go to the doctor, get some tests and ensure everything is in order.
