Being able to make a frivolous purchase definitely would have got me back to the shops!

yes. devastated !!

mum2jakie · 08/07/2020 19:49

Gutted! Was looking forward to doing my bit for the country, after all those lives I've saved working from home for months!!

TW2013 · 08/07/2020 19:50

We would have ended up paying it back somehow anyway.

HermioneWeasley · 08/07/2020 19:51

I think the targeted eating out plan is a better idea

DanielRicciardosSmile · 08/07/2020 19:51

I said to a friend that I was betting they'd be along the lines of £10 off if you spend £30 sort of thing, but up to a tenner off meals at selected places Monday to Wednesday only in August is pretty crap even with my low expectations!

Dylaninthemovies1 · 08/07/2020 19:53

yip, me too

Ginkypig · 08/07/2020 19:54

I have no idea what this thread is about have I missed something? Blush

Aramox · 08/07/2020 19:56

It’s like those vouchers you used to get in the Evening Standard!

PaulineScrambledPhones · 08/07/2020 19:56

Did anyone else have an immature snigger at “Eat our to help out”?

PaulineScrambledPhones · 08/07/2020 19:56

Eat OUT

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/07/2020 19:57

Why would you believe there was going to be a £500 voucher in the first place? Because the media trailed the idea?

Given the damage they've already done in winding people up over this whole thing, surely it's better to wait until things are actually announced ...

Theimpossiblegirl · 08/07/2020 19:57

No, I didn't believe it would happen and it would have been taken from elsewhere.

PickACoolUserName · 08/07/2020 19:59

The Eat Out voucher scheme is a joke.

"Oh you lost your job due to Covid and are facing eviction and unsure how to afford to feed your kids? Never mind, have money off a greasy curry in Spoons that probably cost the chain 50p to make."

TokyoSushi · 08/07/2020 20:01

Yes me too! It might not have been very sensible and would have cost a crazy amount of money, but I'd still have liked it all the same!

majesticallyawkward · 08/07/2020 20:01

I didn't believe it would happen (but hoped it would!).
What has actually been announced is a bit shit though, up to £10 off at selected restaurants/cafes between Monday - Wednesday in August... so completely dependent on the owners of the establishments signing up and knowing how the government like to complicate these things smaller businesses may well be put off.

Bringmewineandcake · 08/07/2020 20:04

It was never gonna happen!

Porcupineinwaiting · 08/07/2020 20:08

Eat out scheme makes me think of the Mayor in Jaws who paid people to be the first to go back in the water.

Thanks but no thanks. Unless it's good for take away.

Richlyfruited · 08/07/2020 20:09

Would have been better to give a £500 voucher to eat out. It won't really help families that can't afford the £40 + a meal will cost even with the discount?

It's otherwise just the same as eating out with the multitude of vouchers that most of the chains offer anyway Hmm

ineedaholidaynow · 08/07/2020 20:09

If the Government had an extra £500 per person spare I would rather they would give it to the schools.

Some of the money they have promised to give to schools is just coming off other grants they give to schools, so they are simply reallocating funds.

Aposterhasnoname · 08/07/2020 20:13

Meh, was never going to happen. I’m quite pleased about the green grant. My doors and windows might as well not be there for all the heat they keep in, so hopefully we can finally get them changed.

Picklypickles · 08/07/2020 20:14

I'd have preferred a £500 voucher, I would much rather buy things we need like new clothes/shoes or money to help with the food shop etc than eating out, I'm fat enough already!

MistyIsland · 08/07/2020 20:14

Can safely say I won’t be eating out 🤷‍♀️ Seems like an absolute load of bollocks.

Anyone else worrying about how we are going to end up paying all this back?

sarahC40 · 08/07/2020 20:15

I agree ineedaholidaynow - if you divide up the cash (ignoring the fact they clawed other money back) it’s about £80 per child and tutoring agencies Will be charging a bloody fortune per hour.

BigSpringy · 08/07/2020 20:16

YABU OP - I can't believe you would have preferred £500 to spend on anything you like over half price Pizza Express.

You need to get your priorities right!

Yes I was gutted when I found out Santa didn't exist.
