Possibly next year I’ve heard from someone I know who works at a uni.

Hellohah · 08/07/2020 16:29

We have been told 1st September at the earliest. This will be reviewed on the 31st July.

Monkeybunkey · 08/07/2020 16:30

We've been told certain staff may be allowed back on campus in September (for specific tasks) but that working from home is likely to be the norm for my team (central Professional Services) until January.

WindsorBlues · 08/07/2020 16:38

Our office staff are still WFH. The Management Board are planning / hoping to have the majority back in for the new academic year.

Our work load has increased since we're preparing for two eventualities 1. Everything will be back to normal 2. Lockdown still enforced and remote teaching is required.

I'm not complaining about the increased workload i'd rather be prepared for both and hope the students get the best experience they can depending on the situation.

twilightcafe · 08/07/2020 16:39

I work in FE. Been told that my department will be WFH for the foreseeable.

WindsorBlues · 08/07/2020 16:41

I should also probably mention I've been advised that its highly unlikely i'll be allowed back in the office until after my maternity leave is over, my baby isn't due until January. The Management Board is not taking any risks with anyone with underlying health issues or those who are pregnant.

ShinyMe · 08/07/2020 16:42

I work in FE with an HE centre attached and as support services, I've been told that as I can work from home I will likely be continuing until September at least, and possibly much longer, and that even if I can come back in in September, it may be one or two days a week, alternating with other colleagues as our office is very squashed.

LuckyBitches · 08/07/2020 16:44

Another uni admin working from home until September. Why do you ask OP?

kitschplease · 08/07/2020 16:44

Mid-September possibly on a phased return. I'm sick of the sight of my dining room so will be volunteering to go back asap!

Chocolatekitty · 08/07/2020 16:45

We'll be back in on a rota system for student-facing duties from September, but any work that can be done from home will still be done at home. Not sure how long that will continue...

rbe78 · 08/07/2020 16:46

Nothing firm where I am, but unlikely we'll be back in before December.

madwoman1ntheattic · 08/07/2020 16:46

Loosely September but 🤷‍♀️

HilaryBriss · 08/07/2020 16:46

I'm not expecting to be back in the office before January tbh although I would go tomorrow if they said I could.

thebear1 · 08/07/2020 16:46

Support Services at a University and told September at earliest. Probably later.

DamsonDragon · 08/07/2020 16:49

August, in time for clearing (also work on the phone lines during clearing).

Silversun83 · 08/07/2020 16:50

Nope.. There are a few key staff back on campus, but only those involved in eg clearing etc. Some academics are back, or will shortly be back in labs.

We're opening up for students from September and so the priority is getting teaching staff back in.

They haven't given us a date yet but have emphasised that as long as social-distancing measures are in place, they will need to use every space possible for students and teaching staff. They've also mentioned that it not only relates to numbers in buildings but also on the campus grounds.

Also said that as long as government advice is to work from home if you can, they will be following that. And that committee meetings for first semester will be online.

So reading between the lines.. I originally thought we'd be back in September but now I'm wondering whether it will be January.

titchy · 08/07/2020 16:51

We're running clearing remotely 😱
bumblingbovine49 · 08/07/2020 16:52

We've been told, not earlier than January

GentlyGentlyOhDear · 08/07/2020 16:52

We've been told we will be at home for the full academic year next year. Space on campus is being prioritised to get students in where possible.

bashcrashfall · 08/07/2020 16:54

No, all we have been told is they will be asking for voluntary redundancies and not filling some vacant posts. Then more redundancies if that doesn't save enough. So realistically some of us will never go back to the office...

Yorkshireswithallroasts · 08/07/2020 16:55

As previous posters have said. September for front facing staff, January for the rest.

CampDragon · 08/07/2020 17:48

Departmental admin staff here, expecting to (at least mostly) WFH until January. (And secretly thrilled about this, as I like it much better than going into the office.)

SmiteTheeWithThunderbolts · 08/07/2020 18:06

My university is planning to reopen in September but only with 25% capacity. We're told to expect to continue to WFH wherever possible (which I think is govt advice?) but no one has mentioned a likely end date.

I head that one London university (Imperial?) told staff not to expect to come back before December, although they reserved the right to bring them in earlier.

I'm in London so we're heavily dependent on the capacity of public transport for commuting and if that continues to be severely reduced then I expect a lot of staff will continue to WFH, or maybe in the office on a rota, for the foreseeable future.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 08/07/2020 18:10

Nope, and it doesn't seem to be intended that we will go back any time soon. There has been some canvassing of opinions though; I guess there will be limited space and they want to allocate that to those who really want to go back to the office (so, the parents then Grin )

I suspect those of us who are happy to carrying WFHing will be doing so for the foreseeable.

Onetwothreeherewego · 08/07/2020 18:32

Our department is open - lab work in two shifts - which means reception, cleaners, facilities team are all in for the early shift.

Anyone in the rest of the admin team are being encouraged to work from home and not come in, we also had two job vacancies which need to be filled - they have temps in at the moment - these jobs will now only be offered on a fixed term basis, both to do with teaching. Gives them the scope to change things for next year.
