To ask if your school have confirmed return dates yet for September

Just that - have your school given you a definite return date for your child?
We have two kids that have been years that haven't gone back and I am desperate to give them certainty.

(Should add we are in England in a borough with a very low transmission rate)

DS2 is in special school and they have used the words “risk assessment” and that children will be begin to come back full time from September. So he will not be back anytime soon.

Foxinsocks1 · 07/07/2020 13:01

Yes. Our school has only 2 year groups not returned at the minute. Looking forward to September

Gizlotsmum · 07/07/2020 13:02

Nope.. Know new teachers but that is all.. Although they never officially said they weren't coming back this term (other schools did). So working towards planned date and waiting to hear.

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/07/2020 13:02

We have been told what the expectations are (uniform, attendance etc) but not the actual date. DS school tends to tack the inset days into either the start or end of term so it never fits in with the local authority advertised dates.

APurpleSquirrel · 07/07/2020 13:04

Nothing confirmed. Knew return date previously but that was Pre-COVID, so not sure if it's changed. It's only a two class school so DD teacher won't change though.

SomewhereEast · 07/07/2020 13:05

Yes (English state primary). YR3 DS has been in for morning with the rest of his class to meet his YR4 teacher & TA. Reception DS is in school four days a week with clear expectation he'll have a normal YR1 start in Sept. The school seems to be assuming a pretty normal September at this stage

UpToonGirl · 07/07/2020 13:06

Primary, dates and class teachers confirmed. Also no uniform for at least the first term.

MayFayre · 07/07/2020 13:09

Nothing confirmed and they break up tomorrow.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 07/07/2020 13:11

Private secondary. Child going into Yr10. We’ve not been told anything yet.

Keepdistance · 07/07/2020 13:11

Ours have told us reception plans.
But it involves a meeting for parents in sept which seems unwise if indoors.
And a picnic too including parents.

Personally i i cant see how they can stagger the school start /end enough. 15 classes of 30 including nursery.
Reception with eldest for 60 going in was like a scrum.

Will they let them us playground equipment.
How will they wash all kids hands on going in?

sirfredfredgeorge · 07/07/2020 13:19

Their email also mentions they'll be taking the temperature of students daily, enforcing hand washing at the beginning of every lesson and will send home every student who has any symptom for the required two week isolation, no exceptions

School does not currently have such power, it would be an illegal exclusion in many cases, are they expecting new laws to give them the power?

Serendipity79 · 07/07/2020 13:24

Secondary school has sent a holding message with further info to follow. Primary have sent out new teacher/class allocations and information relating to wrap around care which they will be able to provide but at double the cost and it has to be fixed days which need to be booked by tomorrow which unfortunately means only half the parents can use it. No confirmation as yet about return dates as they're still working it all out.

earthyfire · 07/07/2020 13:28

Yes, for one school , secondary school - Head of the academy has sent out an email to say school will be compulsory in September and touched on what measures they are working on re. social distancing. No return date given.

The other school (junior school) we've heard nothing about the return.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 07/07/2020 13:29

School does not currently have such power, it would be an illegal exclusion in many cases, are they expecting new laws to give them the power?

In all honesty I have absolutely no idea. According to the Head they'll be enforcing all of the 'new' rules rigidly. In truth, I don't think many Heads have a definite idea of how September is going to pan out - I think many are simply trying their best to work with the minimal guidance offered and will see how it goes.

The school is an odd place and the new Head seems determined to stamp their authority over everything. The reality will likely be very different to how they're hoping it goes.

Zebramumma · 07/07/2020 13:29

Nope, haven’t heard anything. DS currently in Reception & his school refused to take his year back. The head has been pretty clear she didn’t want the school open even for keyworker children so I’m not holding my breath that we’ll hear anything soon. I’m expecting part time attendance for the first term.

earthyfire · 07/07/2020 13:30

I don't know what is wrong with me today...The start of my sentence should read NO. 😂 Wish there was an edit function!

IndecentFeminist · 07/07/2020 13:30

Yup, normal return date and teachers allocated.

Crunchymum · 07/07/2020 13:30

No, not yet.

We have been the new classes / teachers etc but no formal return date.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/07/2020 13:30

Yes, they are returning September 3rd and will spend 2 days in their old classrooms before transitioning over to their new ones. We will find out their new teachers this week. All subject to government orders of course.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 07/07/2020 13:39

I’m school staff. It is my job to update school website and send out term dates. I don’t know when we will be back in September. Our head has been pushing the head of our trust to give us definite dates but we just can’t get them.

treeeeemendous · 07/07/2020 13:40

Yes we've had an email - secondary that basically seems like business as normal. All kids expected back in September, compulsory attendance and full school
Uniform including blazers with school transport running as normal - I would love this to be the case.

munchbunch12 · 07/07/2020 13:40

We have a date for DS' Upper School, but not for DD's Primary. We are in the West Mids.

Vanillaradio · 07/07/2020 13:45

We have a start date and confirmation that all years will be back, attendance is compulsory and things seem to be going back to normal. They also plan to run before and after school club at normal.times. We've also been told that they will have their old class teacher for the first 2.5 weeks then switch to new one but not sure who that will be yet.

Soubriquet · 07/07/2020 13:47

No not yet

Which is surprising as we were one of the first to know what they doing with the reception, year 1 and year six go backs

WhenDoISleep · 07/07/2020 13:54

Nothing yet and suspect we won't know prior to the end of term. I have one in primary (not in a year that has been allowed back) - apparently we are meant to find out teachers for next year sometime this week, which is in line with how it has been done in 'normal' years.

The other is starting yr 7 - we don''t know what date he is starting on, but the school has sent out a letter to existing pupils stating return dates may be staggered. Given the complete lack of transition due to the current situation, I really hope that yr 7 start earlier rather than later and have some sort of transition time prior starting on timetabled lessons. We know which class he is in, but don't know who his tutor will be.
