To think losing 3.5 stone in a year is totally doable

Fed up of my weight. I’ve just made a plan for the weight I want to get back to, it will involve losing 3.5 stone. It sounds a lot but at 1lb a week I should be able to do it in a year. That’s completely reasonable isn’t it? I have no excuses.

Totally doable! Good luck OP

AryaStarkWolf · 06/07/2020 12:58

Of course it's possible, very possible in fact! Good luck with it OP

DrPatient · 06/07/2020 12:58

Completely doable. Go you.

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 06/07/2020 12:59

It's totally doable.
I lost 2 stone in about 4 months.
Stick with it though, I find the last few pounds always seem the hardest to come off, but they will eventually.
Good luck Smile

PumpkinP · 06/07/2020 12:59

I lost that in less than 6 months.

LemonPeonies · 06/07/2020 13:03

Come join one of the weight loss threads OP. I'm 12 stone 8 now, have lost 3 pounds this week. Personally I worked out my calorie deficit on MyFitnessPal App and account for breastfeeding and exercising and am currently eating 1200 calories a day. I also have 3 stone to lose and plan on losing it in less than a year, it all depends on your metabolism etc. Good luck Smile

Coconutbug · 06/07/2020 13:04

Yes definitely, I've lost more than that in 8 months. Just remember that weight isn't everything and also take pictures/measurements because on the scales it may look like you've not lost weight but you may have lost size! Good luck

myfuckingfreezer · 06/07/2020 13:12

Yes absolutely - I've lost more 4 stone since Christmas!

fedupnow20 · 06/07/2020 13:23

Ah this is all very encouraging. I want to go slow and not try and push myself too much, as I tend to do that, fail and then not bother. So I had originally set a goal of 2 lbs a week but I know that if i don’t make it I’ll get discouraged and quit. But 1lb a week is doable, and I may even do it faster which will spur me on. Off to plan a healthy lunch - thanks all!

I want to loose about 3 stone. I started in May and have lost almost a stone already. I recommend 18/6. A few changes coupled with at least 10 k steps and it's doable.

SophieB100 · 06/07/2020 13:25

I did it last year OP - 4 stone to be precise - so if I can, you can!

I lost about 7lbs a month, nice and steady. Took about 8 months in all.

Good luck

If you can afford it there are alot of virtual programmes at the moment which are great for accountability and encouragement during plateaus

CodenameVillanelle · 06/07/2020 13:27

Yes!
Make sure you take underwear photos at the start and measure your waist. That will keep you motivated when the scales don't seem to move for a few weeks.

Oxyiz · 06/07/2020 13:28

I've just lost a stone in about 6/7 weeks and that was me taking it slow. Mainly I cut out sugar, salt and processed foods, and started eating lots of vegetables to get to a calory count just under what I need. Hoping to knock another stone off safely by November now, again trying to take it slow.

ResumetonormalASAP · 06/07/2020 13:29

Good luck - yes I think it is doable

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 06/07/2020 13:30

should be possible
May depend on where you're starting from, in terms of how overweight you are now?
If you're 13 stone now and want to get down to 9.5 - should be fine
If you're 9 stone now, and think you want to be 5.5 - might be harder.

good luck!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/07/2020 13:30

Absolutely doable!
You could do it faster, or even slower. Pick your pace. I think it's great you don't want to hurry it up so you don't give up. It's much easier to make meaningful and long lasting changes if you go slower.

Good luck!

Losingthechubrub · 06/07/2020 13:38

Depending on your starting weight, it should be doable. I have a lot to lose (again) but WFH at the moment because if Covid and have no motivation to exercise, but once the pools are open again, I'll be back on it.

MojoJojo71 · 06/07/2020 13:48

Absolutely, I did it last year tracking everything using my fitness pal. I went from 16 stone to 12.5. Back up to 13 during lockdown though so really need to get back into it again

MyOwnSummer · 06/07/2020 13:59

Good luck OP! Nothing like making a positive decision to improve yourself and sticking to it.

I'm working out 5 times per week since lockdown started and love how my body is changing in a positive way. I find that focusing on the mental health benefits of exercise helps me a lot - I get very upset weighing myself all the time so I try to avoid the scales at all costs.

I second PP's recommendation to measure your waist and go by that - I actually weigh only a little less than I did when I started but I'm about 2 inches less on my waist already. The fat has been replaced by muscle, which weighs more!

...If you're 9 stone now then you should not be trying to lose 3.5 stone.

This website is wild.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/07/2020 14:16

@LittleGwyneth I've just converted 5.5 stone into kg...
Wtf👀
I am sure it was just over exaggerated example

ArriettyJones · 06/07/2020 14:18

It’s 49lbs, so less than one pound a month over a year. Very realistic and doable if you have the willpower. Good luck! Smile

PersonaNonGarter · 06/07/2020 14:18

Doable 100%.

Along the way you will feel happier, healthier and your self-esteem will rocket.

Good luck. Hard work but also easier than you think.

Mixedandproud · 06/07/2020 14:19

Good luck OP this is totally doable.
I have done it myself losing 4 stone in less than a year because I had to for medical reasons. When you have a goal it’s much easier.
I had a GP referral for slimming world which made all the difference and lost the weight through diet along with a busy active full time job.
