Will you still buy stuff from Boohoo?

From recent article in The Guardian and other papers, it seems Boohoo have benefited from the scandal of low wag W work sears, some paid £3 per hour, in poor working conditions, forced to work even though they and others have the virus?

Seems totally unacceptable to me

Never have bought from them - given the prices it was absolutely obvious that workers had been treated badly.

Bellesavage · 06/07/2020 09:24

Never have. I'm not a huge fan of 100% viscose

Bagelsandbrie · 06/07/2020 09:24

The stuff is horrendous and terrible quality anyway, it’s pretty obvious it’s not been made in good conditions. So it’s a no from me.

MiniTheMinx · 06/07/2020 09:25

I haven't read the article, but if this is correct I won't buy anything from them.

welshpolarbear · 06/07/2020 09:27

I have only ever had one item (leggings) via Next, and they were the most awful quality.

But if I had have liked there stuff, no, there's no way. I won't shop in Primark for the same fast fashion reasons.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 06/07/2020 09:29

Of course it’s awful but
1- I doubt much of MN are their core demographic
2- with money being tighter since covid more people will want a bargain
3- wasn’t it obvious they exploited people to sell dresses for £5 and make a profit?!

Samcro · 06/07/2020 09:30

its my go to site to get stuff for dd. I know it will fit(dd disabled so can't do trying on.)
so yes. if I boycotted every where mn said I would not be able to shop.

Yes it’s awful. The stuff is very low quality and made cheaply so I suppose it’s no surprise that their business model isn’t the most ethical

Desiringonlychild · 06/07/2020 09:34

People always talked about boycotting china and buying British. Well Boohoo employs workers mainly in the UK and I think its worse in many ways as they are exploiting workers on British soil

You don’t need that much meat - it’s bad for you and bad for the planet.
But but but...

Boohoo is not my thing. But I wouldn’t dream of imposing my own ethics, standards and views on other people.

Boycott all you like but don’t lecture others about what they should and shouldn’t do. Just let people live their lives. Something we have apparently lost sight of these days.

No they don’t. Who are you to “call out” anybody? Who put you into that role?

shinyredbus · 06/07/2020 09:43

Nah. I’ve never bought from them - my sister does and the quality is really really bad. She won’t buy from them anymore but that won’t stop them making millions tho. It’s fast, cheap fashion.

Reading their statement I’ll reserve judgement

The issue really lies with the employer illegally paying below minimum wage

Fairyliz · 06/07/2020 09:49

Well I personally won’t because I am too old for their fashions, I need a bit more support at my age.
However you do know that even the more expensive brands and designers brands also use sweatshops both in the U.K. and abroad?
Just because a dress costs £200 not £5 doesn’t mean it’s ethically made.

dottiedodah · 06/07/2020 09:56

Well I dont buy from anywhere other than M and S or Monsoon (latter mostly on E Bay) The problem is lots of youngsters will shop there as it is so cheap and at pocket money prices. If it is more expensive and the staff paid more (as the obv should be) Will this increase their prices ,and price out a lot of their customer base leaving the company to go down hill and put people from low paid work into no work though? (Genuine question )Thought provoking .My own DD often buys from E Bay or Charity shops .

PymChurchBeach · 06/07/2020 09:57

No, because it is cheap horrible tat.

PumpkinP · 06/07/2020 09:57

Yes I will.

No.
And what’s making it worse is their attitude. People are asking them on twitter and they’re responding with smiley faces and kisses. They have been doing this for years, if you research then it’s been happening for years. A LOT of People need to be held to account for this. I think it’s horrendous.

I stopped buying from places like this and Primark years ago and buy as ethically as possible. All these companies should be held to account and be forced to change their ways.
