Fucking cat (not mine) outside howling in the wind. Should I bring it in? Yes or no?

Woke up and went to get a cup of tea. I can hear there's a cat outside howling and it's wild out there. Been howling for attached least the 10 minutes I've stood here. I'm in a second floor apartment, I bloody hate animal owning culture, I have no real means to care for a cat. But it's howling. No other animal noise so it's not mating or anything, just sounds upset, really horrible.
I'm thinking I could empty a box, put a picnic blanket in it and put the cat in there in the bathroom for the night. Should I? YANBU yes just get the damn cat already, YABU no leave it be it's probably ok. For reference I've lived here five years and never heard a cat yowling outside before.

Cars hooking means they're shagging. If it continues for ages it could be in trouble. Rescuse the cat. It needs a new servant.

Cats usually howl in an ongoing way because they are fighting. Check if there is a catfight going on outside.

@confusedandtired99 I'm just a bit bummed out at the thought of an animal having a hard time. I've heard cats fighting before - they do that growly sort of thing and crescendo. And when they mate it goes in waves and gets gutteral. Fucks sakes. Maybe I should just go back to bed but this sounds different.

If you think its in distress, have a look and try to get it in the house for safety. You don't have to keep it. Tomorrow take it to a shelter or vet if it's injured or just let it out to go home if not injured.

At least check its not hurt. Howling may not mean injured though. 2 of my cats are in heat right now and my god they scream and yowl really loud and its none stop. Just be careful bringing in a cat as you have no litter tray or presumably suitable cat food.

Why not just put the box and blanket outside in a sheltered spot? I wouldn't bother bringing it into my house tbh unless it was clearly injured/sick.

Just go and have a look, see if you can see it and what's going on. Make a decision from there.

Do you have a sheltered area outside your house like a car port or porch shelter? get a cardbaord box, line with a towel for a cat bed. That way, kitty gets some shelter without beign in your house. Or if you have garage, put it in the box in there?

We have a lot of cats here including a fair few entire toms and the howling/howling you describe it’s regular occurrence.

I find it’s either:

A sexually frustrated male voicing objections to lack of shagging.

Or

A male that has met up with another male.
Sometimes they just yowl and then leave and sometimes they yowl then go on to fight.

So no, I wouldn’t do anything.

I had a cat that used to howl when it caught a mouse or bird, it used to invite other cats to come and share.

I don’t understand this thing just now where people think it’s fine to ‘rescue’ (steal) other people’s cats - cats roam! They yowl! It probably wants in for its breakfast and it’s owner is having a lie in, leave it alone. Perfectly normal cat behaviour

Why do people on here keep encouraging stealing other people's pets? Cats roam, it's their nature. They don't need your "rescuing" and their owners certainly don't need the stress of their cat gone missing because some self-righteous idiot thought a normal, roaming cat was in danger Hmm adopt a cat from an animal shelter if you re so desperate for one but don't steal other people's!
