Holiday in wales?

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 21:50

There is a holiday to Wales booked in a few weeks time, for a large family group to stay together in one large self catered house. There will be 40-45 people from 15 separate households all under the same roof. AIBU to think this will be cancelled? The family is from England if it makes any difference.

And if it isn't cancelled, would you go?

As far as I know there's a restriction on people from England visiting Wales. It was in th e paper today that people from th e Bristol area are allowed into Wales. I'm hoping to visit my Dad soon.

LagunaBubbles · 04/07/2020 21:58

I wouldn't want to go on holiday with that many people, Covid or no Covid.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 21:58

I think travelling to Wales is allowed from Monday. It's more the size of group, amount of households that make me think it won't be allowed.

Well they go every year, they are a close family, this is just about covid 😂

Wouldn’t officially be allowed but would probably depend on whether they are planning on circumventing official channels and sneaking into a private let or religious group owned accommodation. I wouldn’t expect it to go down well if the local community find out.

BeardieWeirdie · 04/07/2020 22:05

You’re allowed to travel within Wales or have a day-trip to Wales but not stay over on Monday. From 11 July, members of one household can holiday here in self-contained accommodation. No bloody way is what you are suggesting permitted.

mum11970 · 04/07/2020 22:06

Visitors are allowed to stay in wales from 13th July but 15 households would not be allowed to stay together in one accommodation.

mum11970 · 04/07/2020 22:09

Sorry pp is correct, it has been changed to 11th July to allow for Saturday to Saturday holiday bookings.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 22:10

So would it be up to the home owner to cancel the booking? They aren't going to try and sneak in or anything. They only want to go if it's allowed. But reliable, official info and advice seems hard to find.

Please don't

Miserablemoan · 04/07/2020 22:14

It’s not allowed.
I wouldn’t go

MirandaWest · 04/07/2020 22:15

That must be a massive house.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 22:16

Yes it is a huge house.

The rules in Wales are changing to:

  • two households can combine to make an extended household (but no more than)
  • self contained holiday accommodation can go ahead and be used after 11th July

Technically it wouldn't be breaking rules if you and one other household had a holiday in self contained accommodation but I really can't see Drakeford changing the rules to combine more than two households for at least another month, probably longer unless covid miraculously evaporates from the world.

Your holiday just wouldn't be permitted under the rules and if the locals get pissed off fairly likely with several obviously seperate households rocking up in their relatively unaffected part of Wales they're liable to call the police and you could fall foul of fines/be told to leave as a best case scenario.

Your holiday isn't currently permitted under the rules.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 22:24

I don't think it can be cancelled though until nearer the time. It is booked for early august and restrictions could be lifted more by then to allow larger groups. Not sure how it works if they have to wait for the letting company to cancel or if they can even cancel themselves without losing their money.

OP posts:
knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 22:26

They definitely won't go if it's against the rules. But I wonder if the rules will change again by then.

Canyouhelpme · 04/07/2020 22:26

40-45?! That sounds like my idea of hell, even without Covid! No I wouldn’t go, it’s not worth the risk. We’re prepping for a second wave at my work, please don’t do something that could put yourself at risk

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 22:36

If anyone else had a holiday cancelled, how long before the date was it cancelled?

OP posts:
yma123 · 04/07/2020 22:47

This will definitely not be allowed, even by early august! The rules are only changing to allow one household (or two combined households) to holiday in self contained accommodation from July 11th, do you really think they'll allow that many people from that many different households to holiday together only a few weeks after that?! You're saying you expect the host to cancel it but they could well be unaware that you're from that many separate households - explain to them that you aren't from one household, and that holidaying together will be against current lockdown guidelines so you need to cancel the trip, hopefully you'll be able to reclaim your money as I'm sure it is a substantial amount!

killerofmen · 04/07/2020 22:50

But reliable, official info and advice seems hard to find.

It's all on the government website.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 22:51

No I don't think it will be allowed, or should be. I'm asking how it works re cancelling it. Yes it's a huge amount of money.

OP posts:
knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 22:54

@killerofmen
I haven't managed to find any info on the government website about what the rules will be in early August. I can only assume it won't be allowed, but I also assume the rules will be different then than the ones beginning 11th July . Some of the group want to go, and others don't.

OP posts:
killerofmen · 04/07/2020 23:03

No, August is too far in advance to know. There is reliable info about the rules as they stand now and this kind of trip wouldn't be within the rules.

It may be worth contacting the company now to see if a refund will be offered if you can't all stay together. Personally, I don't think they will allow that many households to meet up and share facilities, even by August.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 04/07/2020 23:09

I think it will be a case of wait and see. Some of the group are very keen for it to go ahead, so unless the lead person wants to cancel it, I think they will wait for the next review of the rules.
