to think Nigel Farage should be fined for breaking self isolation rules after USA travel

chomalungma · 04/07/2020 16:48

Went to the USA to the Tulsa rally.
Came back
Now pictured at a pub enjoying his pint.

Seems his excuse is that 'he has had a test and he's negative'

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-uk/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-uk

As part of that:

" If you are tested and receive a negative result for coronavirus, you must continue to self-isolate until you have been in the UK for 14 days, even if your symptoms have gone"

"Nigel Farage
@Nigel_Farage
To all those screaming and shouting about me going to the pub.... I have been back from the USA for 2 weeks and I have been tested — the result was negative. Sorry to disappoint you. Cheers!"

Unless it's one rule for us and one rule for them?

@WhySoSexist

I'm a bit confused. If he's been back for two weeks then he's allowed to go out... How does this break the rules?
Also because he shouldn't have gone in the first place!
StealthPolarBear · 04/07/2020 19:28

Why does it matter? The govt and advisors can do what the hell they like, why should he have to follow the rules?

The rally was two weeks ago. Unless he got back on the day of the rally he should still be in quarantine.

Personally I wish he'd just stay over there.

jackdaw141 · 04/07/2020 21:48

Oh FFS.

The PM has been pushing to break the rules since before lockdown. In fact he was dead against it and only pressure from other sectors prevented the UK from participating in the failed Swedish herd immunity experiment.

It is no coincidence that Cummings and Johnson senior flouted the rules.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/07/2020 22:11

Well if he has been back for two weeks

And he really is best ignored

yeOldeTrout · 05/07/2020 00:45

I would take great pleasure in any news that Farage was fined.

Beatrixpotterspencil · 05/07/2020 01:40

I think he should be fined for looking like a clumsily sewn sock puppet with its eyes stitched on all wrong 🤪

Mumratheevergiving · 05/07/2020 01:59

We have just missed a golden opportunity to close UK borders while Farage and Stanley Johnson were off on their jollies essential travel. Now that would have been a silver lining to this whole sorry mess.

Is there actually anyone within Boris's inner circle that is following Government instructions?!

DeeCeeCherry · 05/07/2020 02:02

Working class are too busy pursing their their lips in disapproval & snooping at each other to worry about him. Local community group on FB has been frothing about "Super Saturday" and people having the nerve to go out to the pub. That's consuming them for a while

Disquieted1 · 05/07/2020 02:05

I think that you want him fined just because he's Nigel Farage.

If your mother did this OP would you be calling for her to be fined?
Nah, didn't think so.

Cramitmaam · 05/07/2020 02:08

YABVU.

People who work in government do not have to follow the same rules as us. They are better than us. We are plebs.

Agreed. If he had symptoms it would be a different matter, but I can't get worked up about him (or anyone else who is symptom free) failing to complete the final day of quarantine. I think the police and courts have more important things to worry about than such a minor flouting of the rules (like the awful anti social behaviour of hoards of people who ignored social distancing on beaches and left human excrement and tons of waste behind them).

HerRoyalNotness · 05/07/2020 02:33

I hope he had a good chuckle at Trump’s expense at that rally. What a joke.

Mumratheevergiving · 05/07/2020 02:45

HoldMyLobster I loathe him, but given that he's been back 13 days rather than 14, it does seem a bit jobsworth to insist he waits till tomorrow to go out.

I understand your point but if we start shaving bits off public health instructions(particularly people in the public eye) then where will we be? We all know instances of people sending kids back into school without keeping to the 48 hr rule for diarrhoea / sickness. I know people who are in Leicester lockdown that are planning to go on holiday elsewhere in the UK next week. Alright this is not at the same level of recklessness as Chief Covidiot Cummings but from the top down it appears people are now 'interpreting' the rules to suit themselves & no-one gets pulled up on it.

AllesAusLiebe · 05/07/2020 03:05

Farage is a sneaky, cynical individual who uses every opportunity to attempt to tap into the public consciousness. "Look at me, disobeying the quarantine rules, which we all know is a complete waste of time and enjoying a pint in my local!"

Please don't fall for it.

HoldMyLobster · 05/07/2020 03:19

Ugh, you've reminded me that he threatened to move to coastal Maine a couple of years ago. Thank god that plan got shelved.

mrbob · 05/07/2020 03:21

@HoldMyLobster

I loathe him, but given that he's been back 13 days rather than 14, it does seem a bit jobsworth to insist he waits till tomorrow to go out.

I'd just not give him the attention he clearly wants.

And this is why the UK is fucked. 14 days is 14 days. Not 13. Or 11 but you know if you count the jet lag it might kind of be 12 and I have things to do.
Tellmetruth4 · 05/07/2020 05:39

He did it for attention because he’s now irrelevant. Bet Trump blanked him when he went to Tulsa as he doesn’t associate with losers. He was interested when Brexit was big but now we’re leaving the EU, Farage has nothing to offer except stale fag breath, bad teeth and alcohol withdrawal tremors. Farage is desperate to be in the papers. Let’s ignore his blatant publicity stunt.

StormzyinaTCup · 05/07/2020 06:25

He posted on his twitter account, Ed Davey's actions gave NF the publicity. ED has come off looking worse in this.

NF has tested negative, there will likely be people drinking in pubs this weekend who will be asymptomatic, that is more concerning.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 05/07/2020 08:36

I’m no fan of NF but I do think it’s unlikely anyone would show the first sign of C19 on day 13 if they have been clear up until then.

This is so true - I really do feel sorry for people who think he’s important, he’s absolutely worthless in this country and he would piss on every single one of his supporters if he thought it would make him more relevant.
Clavinova · 05/07/2020 09:12

As part of that: "If you are tested and receive a negative result for coronavirus, you must continue to self-isolate until you have been in the UK for 14 days, even if your symptoms have gone"

Do we know if Nigel Farage had any coronavirus symptoms - or did he pay for a private test just because he could?

ED has come off looking worse in this.

The BBC couldn't resist adding this to the end of their report;

"Writing on Twitter, Alexandra Phillips, a former Brexit Party MEP who once worked as Nigel Farage's media adviser, said:"

"Dear Ed Davey,The police have better things to do, you sad little man. Getting an officer to go to Nigel's house to tell him he shouldn't have gone to the pub is a total waste of resources and makes you look like a pathetic, attention-seeking twerp."
