Iceland delivery

This morning I heard a clatter outside and a engine running. This went on for a while and I was already awake. But it was 6.15am someone had a food delivery. Does this seem very early to have a food delivery I thought they start at 7am for most supermarkets. I work for a supermarket and they dont start this early..

I'm think Morrisons deliverer from 5.30am.

Vivana · 04/07/2020 17:50

Well I work for a supermarket and the memo we had states this so maybe not all but the one I work for will be.

These neighbours do not work and are not shielding as I know them very well. So why are iceland not keeping these slots to people who are shielding.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 04/07/2020 18:01

Are you shielding and cross they got an early delivery and you couldn’t?
If not then why should it bother you? Confused

Tuemay · 04/07/2020 18:04

Some people would be very grateful a slot, any slot in the middle of a pandemic.

YABU.

Vivana · 04/07/2020 18:09

I'm not shielding and have worked right through this in a supermarket so why on earth would I need a delivery.

Ocado’s first delivery slot is 5:30-6:30am!

But I kind of agree, unfortunately! HmmGrin As someone who has a front-facing bedroom on a very busy street, I’d be peeved off as well. Not enough to do anything about it, probably roll over and try to sleep but we had NDN throwing 30 foot planks of wood from a van onto the pavement at 8am on a Saturday!

Vivana · 04/07/2020 18:12

There now getting rid of some of the priority times. NHS and carers have not changed yet but will do as things are calming down.

It must be hard do to very quietly, I'm sure they tried though.

ilovesooty · 04/07/2020 18:25

I've never had to take a 6am slot but I applaud Iceland for offering them. If your vital sleep is disturbed why does it matter who gets the delivery?

Wolfiefan · 04/07/2020 18:28

I agree with sooty. What difference does it make to you whether they are shielding or not? If they want a delivery that time then they can.

SoupDragon · 04/07/2020 18:41

None of that seems to be to do with delivery slots though.

CuppaZa · 04/07/2020 18:45

Don’t see what your point is OP. YABU

Ponoka7 · 04/07/2020 20:05

@Vivana, because the delivery slots for the vulnerable are open on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am-10am and there's lots of slots available. If you can't get a slot you can contact customer services.

It makes sense for other people to have such early slots, many people who have certain conditions or are elderly would struggle with that time.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 04/07/2020 20:09

I don’t understand these types of moaning posts. Does it really matter?

Tana433 · 04/07/2020 20:26

That slot is a 6-8am one and i always select it if its free and usually get my shopping between 6.20 and 6.45. Perfect for me.

1Morewineplease · 04/07/2020 20:52

This may well be the new norm.
People have realised that home deliveries are more suited to them now and people do work all hours.
I think it’s great that more people can be employed in this sector.
As a pp said, milk floats , which are a bit noisy, regularly deliver at around 4 in the morning.
I think that we should accept this and if it bothers people, then earplugs might become the new norm too.

As an aside, I’ve had to phone my 82 year old mum to go to bed early as she has an early morning supermarket delivery slot ( all I could get) at 7 am tomorrow. I’m sorry if it wakes her neighbours up but at least she’ll get her food shop.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 04/07/2020 21:00

@Vivana

6.15 am is very early to have home deliveries. Yes great for shift workers but not so great for others.
But almost everything else is shit for shift workers. I've done nightshifts and then been woken up/kept awake by Deliveries. Bin lorry Children on the school run Parents and preschoolers walking past People walking past talking loudly General traffic. Building work.

The reverse of that is the neighbours might be disturbed by a once in a while 6am delivery. Tough.

Buzzfrightyears · 04/07/2020 21:14

I don’t do nights anymore but when I did so many things woke me up. Postmen, delivery men (usually asking me to take a parcel for a bloody neighbour), someone selling stuff, my neigbours hoovering/washing their car/kids playing outside/bbqs/lawn mowers. It’s just the way things are if you want people to staff the hospitals and police stations etc?

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/07/2020 21:24

I work nights and a lot annoys me when im trying to sleep. After awhile i just ended up falling asleep.

Rubyupbeat · 04/07/2020 22:00

Our sainsburys start at 6

KaTetof19 · 04/07/2020 22:14

I think earlier/later slots are a great idea.

Aside from the practicalities of being available for shift workers or in fact anyone who finds supermarkets hard work at the best of time (like my non-sheilding but disabled mother...zero priority, impossible shopping during lockdown!) It makes much more sense from an efficiency point of view. Get the vans out delivering when the roads are quieter, quicker turnaround on deliveries, more availability across the spread of the day.

Scattyhattie · 04/07/2020 22:19

I'd take supermarket delivery at 6 over the bin collection especially when its glass week, no chance of sleeping through that.

MirandaWest · 04/07/2020 22:22

Ocado starts at 5:30. Morrison’s used to have early deliveries but since they stopped delivering from distribution centres they’ve started at 8am I think.

Whenever I’ve booked deliveries there’s nothing asking why I’d want a certain time. I don’t have very early deliveries as I prefer to still be in bed but there’s nothing to stop me

wowfudge · 09/07/2020 09:58

Get some earplugs OP if this is waking you up. Our deliveries are frequently earlier than booked - I'm not going to insist on the booked time if they do ring to check first nor will I turn the driver away if they just rock up early. They've got busy enough jobs as it is and have been a godsend for so many people.

You seem to be objecting that someone who isn't working is getting an early delivery. That's a bit like complaining that retired people shouldn't be on the road at rush hour when others are commuting to work.
