We have a biggish bathroom with a tiled floor. It's always grotty - dp is hairy and gets dried in there.

I usually clean it on my hands and knees with a cloth / wipes but there must be a better way?

Used to do it on my hands and knees - now have a flash speed mop and wondered why I didn't get one years ago!

LibertyGables · 03/07/2020 19:33

A long handled rubber floor squeegee should work really well for this. They are cheap, light, and brilliant for sweeping away both hair and water.

PigletJohn · 03/07/2020 19:42

hoover first

but remember, you can have an upstairs vac and a downstairs vac. This used to be more important in the old days when vacs were heavy.

We have three (three story house)

A simple cylinder is all you need for flat floors and upstairs carpets should not be very dirty. A bedroom vac needs a good dust filter.

Downstairs carpets will always be dirtier because people and animals traipse in from outdoors.

I do the same as you OP and it's by far the best way.

I used to hoover then mop but since lockdown started I've taken to wiping down the bathroom with bleach solution every time I take a bath/shower. I just fill the hand basin up with hot water with a lidful of bleach and wipe down window sill, tiles, toilet, bath, basin etc, painwork and finally the floor - on hands and knees with the cloth. It takes 5 minutes a time and my bathroom is gleaming.

No need to lug upstairs hoover, mop etc - the damp cloth picks up any bits on the floor, wipes away dust etc and it just washes away down the drain. And because I'm doing it every day, it never really gets a chance to become dirty or dusty anymore.

Spacecudet · 03/07/2020 19:51

Hoover then on my hands and knees quick and easy to wipe around.

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 03/07/2020 19:56

Hair sweeping brush (like they have in hairdressers), mop with bleach, wipe round the crevices with bleachy cloth

Houseworkavoider · 03/07/2020 20:01

I have a dyson stick vacuum for upstairs.
It’s light and easy. I then use a spray mop. Really couldn’t be bothered to lug a mop and bucket (see username! Grin).

Bodgedboxdye · 03/07/2020 20:08

Handheld dyson, bleach and cloth.

ouch321 · 03/07/2020 20:09

I have reasonable numbers of ballet flats, sensible boots, trainers and a few fancy heeled shoes but my thing is suede and leather boots.

I have probably 20 to 25 pairs

ouch321 · 03/07/2020 20:11

Sorry wrong thread
I vacuum them mop with hot water and flash or dettol floor cleaner

Mangofandangoo · 03/07/2020 20:12

Hoover then one of those wipe mops. If I'm feeling really fancy I put the wipes on the floor and put my slippers on top and do a little shuffle around. Good for the legs.

My pal has a spray mop thingy. She said she does her walls with it - all blase she was. Walls? Do I need to clean walls?!

If you're super lazy like me, buy some of those slippers that are micro cloths. After a bath/shower, spray the floor then dance! Give it a good scrub in the corners once a week or so though. You'll have to also machine wash the slippers now and then too but they go in with the normal wash. Easy street.

Justgorgeous · 03/07/2020 20:36

Hoover then use a anti bac floor wipe and get on my hands and knees and do it. We have 3 smallish bathrooms and I just find it easier.

How on earth do you manage all that in 5 mins?!
DawnAnn · 03/07/2020 20:38

I hoover it with a Dyson stick vacuum, then I use a Vax steam mop.

Norabird · 03/07/2020 20:39

And in answer to OP, hoover and mop.

AnnaSW1 · 03/07/2020 20:41

Dyson then flash speed mop!

mommybear1 · 03/07/2020 20:45

Definitely Hoover then mop but get a flash 2 in 1 spray mop no luging a bucket however I find the hair gets into all the nooks and cranies so I get a wet microfibre cloth and wipe round the edges with that. Oh and yes you can do your wall tiles with the spray mop but depending on your tiles you may get smears so you would need to dry wipe or dry mop head afterwards Grin. I'd ignore for now Wink

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 03/07/2020 20:49

I use a mocrofibre cloth a bucket of water with flash in and get on my hands and knees.
I used to have a steam mop, used it for years, lots of tile floors, then it broke so I did the kitchen tile floor with a mop and bleach water, they stench of dying bacteria was horrendous, I'll never use another one of those steam mops again, had to re mop with clean water, and bleach about 5 times before the smell left, the grout lines looked lovely though. I hadn't realized how grimey they were going.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 03/07/2020 20:49

mocrofibre? Microfibre.

HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight · 03/07/2020 20:51

Hoover, then flash power mop, Steam mop every ten days/two weeks because it's a faff but does get it cleaner than the flash mop

TrickyD · 03/07/2020 20:54

Not sure, but I think DH uses the Hoover and mop System. Seems to work.
