To say no to Disneyland?

DH really wants to book Disneyland Paris for October. We'd be driving there and back but I just think it's silly. Both children are under 5 so it's not like they'd really really enjoy it and only watch the Pixar movies at the moment but anyway, more importantly, AIBU to say no? I just think it's silly, it might get cancelled, we might catch COVID-19, the hotels are very limited and the experience is limited in general. We have had a really tough year, I've lost a parent amongst other things. I think that we should wait until next year but he's really pushing the idea.

I'm with you OP, I'd wait.

Won't October in Paris be quite cold and wet? I'd wait til around May or June 2021.

We thought about Disneyland Paris for DD then realised she was still a bit young and hadn't seen many of the films. She is now 7 so we might go next year.

userabcname · 01/07/2020 19:22

Yanbu. Disneyland Paris with under 5s sounds like hell (and I LOVE it there - I've been loads of times!). I'm planning on taking my DC when they are around 7 and 9 as I think they'd enjoy it and get a lot more out of it when they're a bit bigger.

HairyFloppins · 01/07/2020 19:24

I'd wait. I always get ill every time I go to DLP so knowing my luck I would come back with Covid.

Weather wise last time we went in October it was actually quite mild.

notheragain4 · 01/07/2020 19:28

October is generally a great time to go. October 2020 however....na, I really wouldn't. If it was prebooked and paid I wouldn't cancel but I certainly wouldn't book it now.

Tiredmum100 · 01/07/2020 19:32

I wouldn't.. I think there's too.much uncertainty at the moment and you can't guarantee you'd get your money back if you can't go. Hopefully not, but, there could be a second wave and another lock down. I'd certainly wait.

thaegumathteth · 01/07/2020 19:34

Any other year I'd say go but not this year. Dd has been going since she was 2 and always loved it.

Aquamarine1029 · 01/07/2020 19:34

Forget the pandemic, your children are too young to really enjoy it. I'd wait at least another year because it will be much more enjoyable for all of you.

Darcydashwood · 01/07/2020 19:35

Halloween Season is a great time to go, but there’s no knowing if this year a lot of the things that make Disney special (character meets, parades, shows, fireworks etc) will be happening my then. Also you might have to wear a mask so depends how you feel about that. We were due to go at Easter and we are not rebooking for this year. Hopefully we can next year maybe. (Disney has lots to do for little ones though so I wouldn’t necessarily worry about that. My son was 4 when we first went and he loved it).

Feellikedancingyeah · 01/07/2020 19:35

To be blunt I would not feel safe in that city

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/07/2020 19:36

They probably won't be tall enough for some of the rides.

frog22 · 01/07/2020 19:48

It's a great time of year to go and if it wasn't for Covid I'd be going this year at a similar time. I've decided that I'm not doing any travel abroad till 2021. Especially for Disney as I understand that a lot of the parades, fireworks and character meets are not going ahead.

Go next year an make it extra special.

MintyMabel · 01/07/2020 19:48

I’d say no for the drive with young children, no matter where the destination is. DD was a good traveller at that age but that journey would have been hideous with her.

I agree the kids are too young to appreciate what Disney is. And booking anything at the moment is risky. Tell him you’re not going.

pinkcattydude · 01/07/2020 19:52

They are too you imho go when they can remember it. But halloween is an amazing time to go and not as cold as here. Christmas is amazing too but that is really cold we lived on hot chocolate to keep our hands warm

PaperMonster · 01/07/2020 19:58

I’d wait til next year just because of the current situation. They would enjoy it now though, despite their age - we took our daughter to DisneyWorld when she was three - five years later she still talks about it. And she’d only just started watching films when we went.

MrsMcCarthysFamousScones · 01/07/2020 20:01

Horrendous drive for under 5’s.
Why does he want to go in the middle of a pandemic?

Doordine · 01/07/2020 20:02

We've just booked for May - there is an amazing deal at the moment if you book for summer 2021 (April to September) by August 17th I think it was. 20% hotel and park tickets, free full board Premium meal plan including character breakfast and Princess breakfast and a 100 euro gift card. If you book soon you'll get the light at the end of the tunnel holiday excitement that your DP probably craves but will actually be going at a much better time. X

chubbyhotchoc · 01/07/2020 20:02

Christmas is the time to go. Beautiful. It's mostly just cold and wet otherwise. We took a 4 and 5 year old and they were slightly hard work. Anything younger is prob a waste of money and effort tbh

HermioneWeasley · 01/07/2020 20:06

Why would you drive with 2 under 5s?!

Anyway, I think there will still be masks and social distancing in October, probably no parades so I would leave it until you get the full experience

Floralnomad · 01/07/2020 20:07

Depending on where you are driving from it’s certainly not an horrendous drive , we live in the SE and have been driving there regularly since our children were 18 months old . I’ve even done it as a day trip a couple of times , albeit a very long day .

trilbydoll · 01/07/2020 20:11

We went this Feb with 6yo and 4yo and that was a great age. We went for 5 nights and after day 3 they were both in the pushchair they were so exhausted! If you stay for the illuminations then get up for early magic time it's a long day for littlies, with 20k steps in the middle. 6yo was still super excited to meet princesses etc.

maddiemookins16mum · 01/07/2020 20:15

I’ve never seen so many miserable under 7s in one place than at a Disney theme park last year. The queues, the walking, the begging for expensive snacks and gifts that parents declined.

mylittlesandwich · 01/07/2020 20:18

I am intending on taking DS as soon as it makes sense. I'm hoping November 2021. IMO there's no point it forking out for a limited experience full of worry.

Risotto4tea · 01/07/2020 20:21

We have driven to disney with 2 under 5s (they were 3 and 1 at the time) we drove through the night was easy. There is loads for them to do. We have been several times and Paris is lovely for little ones. If you can get a cheap deal just go...you only live once...and if this yr has shown us anything it's to make the most of life!

MummaGiles · 01/07/2020 20:24

We took DS when he was 3 (nearly 4) and it was a great holiday. But he has brilliant stamina and was tall enough to go on most of the rides. I wouldn’t go at the moment though with Covid, you really want to have the full experience.

GabsAlot · 01/07/2020 20:28

i would say no this yeardont know about paris but orlando has cancelled all parades hallween specials and meet and greets
