AIBU to think that Hermes shouldn't have left my parcel on my doorstep.

Didn't know where to post as I'm rubbish with mumsnet! Basically, I ordered some new bedding online from a popular store. Spent about £70 so not major money but still totally miffed!

Hermes sent me a text saying my parcel would be delivered from 10-2, being in work I couldn't get home for it (they sent me this text at 10am so not like I could've prepared for it). Then I got a text at 1pm saying they had successfully delivered it. I thought possibly they had left with a neighbour. Got home. No parcel anywhere (checked everywhere, back garden, bins etc...), I didn't leave a safe place as there isn't one really! No slip through letter box, have asked all of my neighbours basically if they've had it by accident.
I'm guessing it's been left on my door step and taken? Or not delivered at all.
Anyway, I've contacted the store and they have said that Hermes have definitely delivered it, it says they have a signature but I'm guessing this is automatic as many are not taking signatures because of covid. Nobody was in so it's impossible to have a signature. But anyway, the store said they are 'investigating' and will see what they can do and to give it up to 3 weeks....

AIBU to think that this is definitely not good enough? Can they really just leave a parcel on my door step and walk off knowing nobody is in? Has anyone been in a similar situation, will I even be sent replacement items? I know it's only trivial but it's stressing me!! What do I do.

Thanks 😊

@Lancrelady80 agreed!! Royal Mail are definitely the best around my area. I sigh every time My parcel is assigned to Hermes or yodel, never stress free! 😂

Hermes are known for leaving parcels on doorsteps. And in dustbins. They really are the worse delivery company. Hermes are notorious for non-delivery or just dumping parcels on your doorstep or in your dustbin (I have been on the receiving end of both). A lot of their drivers are self-employed and use their own vehicles. The more parcels they deliver, the more they are paid. So when they knock on a customers door and no one answers, they will not get paid and will have to redeliver the next day. So the temptation to just dump parcels and mark them as delivered to get paid is high.

I have made numerous complaints about missing parcels. It's annoying, but I can see why they do it (but it doesn't make it right).

FedUpOfChangingName · 30/06/2020 01:07

Hermes are not good imo.

They collected a parcel afew weeks ago that i needed returning
Shop has said hermes haven't got a record of collecting it.

The shop refunded it with no hassle.
I think they know Hermes are crap

Longdistance · 30/06/2020 01:15

This is one of the reasons why we got cctv. They’d say they’d delivered the parcel, but it wouldn’t be there.
I got the cctv, and now if a parcel doesn’t turn up, I have all the evidence. My cctv covers the entrance/exit of the road (private), so no excuse not to give me a refund.

LagunaBubbles · 30/06/2020 01:26

I saw the Martin Lewis thing on This Morning to. This should not be happening. Even a photo of the item on your doorstep is not proof it's been delivered because of course someone could take it. You will get a refund or another item.

But this you’re not going to be there to receive it, why order it really pissed me off, so people who work can't order anything online? Some of us actually still have jobs to go to and can't take annual leave just for a parcel that might or might not come. Absolutely no need for such a nasty stupid comment. Some people should be ashamed of themselves.

Hospitalknickers · 30/06/2020 01:48

Ah Hermes! One December a couple of years ago I had ordered Christmas pyjamas, slippers etc from John Lewis. They obviously delivered while I was out collecting kids from school, but no notification not even a card through the door to say they had been. Instead we found sodding wet cardboard boxes on the back doorstep after goodness knows how long. Always dreaded Hermes deliveries since.

MindyStClaire · 30/06/2020 03:48

Our Hermes guy is brilliant. One day he rang the doorbell several times. I answered bfing newborn DD and looking more than a little hassled. Since that day, he knocks softly every time - she's two now!

ATM he's just leaving stuff on the doorstep for contactless delivery which I'm fine with as we're home, but the other day I had a present delivered which was addressed to the friend who'd sent it rather than me and he knocked on the door to check if it really was for us.

I think I might be the only person in the country who has the best experience with Hermes out of all the companies Grin

AHintOfStyle · 30/06/2020 04:07

We also have a fabulous Hermes service.
They're called Yvonne and Yvonne's husband and everybody loves them here.

Rebeccasmoonnecklace · 30/06/2020 04:22

Hermes are awful in my experience! I ordered a dress online last year and like yourself I had text messages about the delivery slot and then a text to say it had been delivered when it had not been as I was at home all day. I tracked the delivery online and it showed a picture of my signature which was forged and my name was spelt incorrectly. Over a week later there was a knock at my door and someone from a neighbouring street delivered the parcel to me. Turns out they had been on holiday and my parcel had been shoved in their bin by the Hermes delivery driver. You couldn’t make it up!

KedsAndTubeSocks · 30/06/2020 05:36

I had a problem with Hermes recently. The parcel was addressed to Myhousename, My Road, Village but it was delivered to Myhousename, Other Road, Village instead. Same house name, different street, same village. Hermes said it was delivered so I just assumed DH had mislaid it in the house. Try to see what proof of delivery Hermes have, if you can ever get hold of them!

Lansonmaid · 30/06/2020 07:31

Hermes once notified me that they had delivered my parcel through a letterbox- which raised two questions...whose letterbox and how did they get 2x 15 kg sacks of dog kibble through such a small space?
In reality they had dumped it by our dustbins 🙄

DilloDaf · 30/06/2020 08:28

How can you get ever get your stuff if you're working full time and want home delivery?

I get deliveries sent to my work but I know not all workplaces allow this.
The text on the day of delivery will give you options, delivery to neighbour, safe place etc. Couldn't you use a large container or plastic dustbin? My neighbour has a black dustbin with a large white cross painted on it, easily identified by the courier and it works well, even for hermes couriers Smile.

lillie07 · 30/06/2020 10:48

Thanks everyone for replying! Still waiting on the 'investigation' hopefully be resolved soon.

@DilloDaf to be honest I normally pay the extra for an evening slot if it's available but it wasn't with this specific company. I've worked full time for as long as I can remember and honestly not had problems with deliveries except maybe organising the odd redelivery or going to collect from a sorting office at the very worst ☺️ I think these options are available for people who can't always be in. will have to try to create a safe place like your neighbour for future deliveries though I think!

I've seen lost of posts on facebook locally that hermes have said they've delivered parcels but actually they've turned up a day or 2 later.....

Davincitoad · 30/06/2020 12:53

I’ve had a denial of a refund from a company as the Hermes man signed my name. Still don’t know where the parcel went...

DilloDaf · 30/06/2020 14:50

I’ve had a denial of a refund from a company as the Hermes man signed my name.

Did you let them get away with it? The same thing happened to me, with Yodel, and I sent a copy of my signature (on credit card). I got the refund and £20 "goodwill gesture".

hashtagbollocks · 30/06/2020 14:52

If you’re not going to be there to receive it, why order it
Why are people such nasty little shits on here?
Some very very unpleasant people.

LazyFace · 30/06/2020 15:01

This sums of Hermes pretty well ...
(Although my last package seems to have arrived safely)

Gulabjamoon · 30/06/2020 15:04

YANBU. I ordered from Achica once and the knobhead flung the parcel into my garden where the feather mattress topper was ripped to shreds by a —yeti— cat or fox.

Ohtherewearethen · 30/06/2020 15:07

I often see people on local Facebook pages asking if they know who the delivery driver for that area is. There always seems to be lots of people tagging names so could you try that? Ask if anyone knows them and get in touch with the driver directly?

Baaaahhhhh · 30/06/2020 15:08

Hermes dropped off a parcel for DD last Wednesday. We were in the lounge, and they definitely did not knock. 15 mins later DD gets a message confirming the delivery.

It was 45oC on our South facing front doorstep. The candle in it's black outer box was liquid. Thanks Hermes. (Fortunately lovely JL replaced free of charge).

Piglet89 · 30/06/2020 15:25

eBay has teamed up with Hermes for its latest in-house delivery offering, “Packlink”. It’s woeful. Search “Packlink” on Twitter and you’ll see loads of people complaining. I never use them and always choose the Royal Mail option when delivering items I am selling.

Whole Twitter accounts are dedicated to complaints about Hermes - see pic.

AIBU to think that Hermes shouldn't have left my parcel on my doorstep.
RedFaerieBoots · 30/06/2020 15:33

We used to have a fantastic lady here delivering for Hermes. If you weren't in and it was obviously clothing, she would post through letterbox or she would come out later that evening if no neighbour kicking around (no one really minds taking in parcels in our street).

Then this guy took over last autumn. He would dump and run. One day we were in and my DP sort of threw his arms up on discovering the parcel. Turns out guy was driving past at that moment, saw DP do this and as he had his phone in hand decided DP was filming him. So a few mins later door gets banged and this numpty is there shouting and squaring up to my DP.

DP told him that etiquette was you were meant to wait and see if customer is home before dumping it.

Didn't change anything. We actually watched him one day just dump parcels in our street at numerous houses. Pointed out to Hermes that anyone on the steal could literally follow him around and pick stuff up behind him.

Shortly after Christmas he stopped delivering.

Davincitoad · 30/06/2020 15:34

@DilloDaf

no laredoute said it was proof I had signed for it and said if I didn’t have a doorbell cam there is nothing they could do.

I won’t use them again!

nzborn · 30/06/2020 16:06

l heard people calling this company herpes which expresses what they think of it.
