Do birds wee? ( sort of light hearted - so I don't seem really dim)

I have been wondering. I mean we occasionally get bird poo on the car or on the Windows ( usually straight after they have been cleaned) but do they wee?
Have I been walking around for years and just been incredibly lucky to have escaped avian urine!?
Maybe they only see when it rains and then we might never realise....

Birds have a metabolic pathway called the Ornithine Cycle.

Essentially urea is excreted as eggshell.

Sparklesocks · 29/06/2020 21:48

Quite an efficient system really

What about male birds though?
StillWeRise · 29/06/2020 23:29

err, eggshell is calcium

Babyroobs · 29/06/2020 23:34

When it comes out purple is that just because they've been eating blackberries?

romdowa · 29/06/2020 23:38

I've three birdies and it all comes out together.

Fallsballs · 29/06/2020 23:40

So my car is covered in piss & shit as opposed to just shit. I always thought birds had the shitz and now I know.
As an aside-it’s a shame we humans can’t do the poop piss combo.

longcoffee · 29/06/2020 23:42

@otterbaby were you watching the Coopers in Rio on Nickelodeon today too by any chance...?

Papergirl1968 · 29/06/2020 23:49

Great question!
I’m 51 and it only occurred to me the other day to wonder why sparrows only mate with other sparrows, blackbirds with other blackbirds etc. I asked my 87-year-old DM and she didn’t know either. Grin
Can anyone enlighten us?

Dita73 · 30/06/2020 00:35

Wee and poo are mixed. Then the little bastards expel it all over my clean washing!

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 30/06/2020 02:58

This is the plus point of "Lockdown" who of us would even have spent a millisecond considering the question of bird wee!

TreacherousPissFlap · 30/06/2020 03:21

In other random bird facts, did you know that birds don't actually sleep in nests?

DH told me this once and I was so outraged I came on here to ask. Turns out that birds build a nest, lay their eggs and raise their young in it, then abandon the nest and cling to the branches all night with their twiggy little legs instead fools

TreacherousPissFlap · 30/06/2020 03:21

I was outraged by that fact Grin

houseinthemiddleofthestreet · 30/06/2020 03:39

I only found out a few years ago that owls don't poo. I was amazed.

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 30/06/2020 03:58

So now we are away from bird wee to owl poo - who would have thought that lockdown would raise such fascinating topics- (If they don't poo, how do they get rid of the dead mouse bones, fur, skin etc)????

FinlandFlag · 30/06/2020 04:00

@otterbaby I knew this bit didnt rememebr I knew it until I read that post.

cloaca

I feel like I've read this information on mn before. See educational innit

Monty27 · 30/06/2020 04:14

@PaddyF0dder
Ornithologist perhaps
Hmmmn tweaking moustaches channelling Poirot

Monty27 · 30/06/2020 04:22

@FinlandFlag me too.
Why don't you see baby pigeons?
I love birds.
Except crows and seagulls 😂

houseinthemiddleofthestreet · 30/06/2020 04:38

@IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 they regurgitate little balls.

HoppingPavlova · 30/06/2020 05:18

I’ve been shat on enough times to assume it’s all in one.

I don’t own birds but any tree I stand under tends to have a large one in it that’s keen to use me as a loo.

HoppingPavlova · 30/06/2020 05:19

Should have added, cockatoo’s actually aim for you. That’s no joke, true.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 30/06/2020 05:31

with chickens all comes out as a single 'plop' - more or less liquidy on occasions, I presume dependent on ratio of pee to poo.

Monty27 · 30/06/2020 05:36

Wee
I was shat on by a bird once, presumably a seagull as we were in a seaside town. Just about to go in a restaurant for dinner.
Everyone thought it was hilarious. I felt physically sick bleugh
I'm still waiting for the luck it was supposed to bring. Oh hang on....
I guess it was the worst shit I got for a while Grin

Birdnerd · 30/06/2020 07:10

Parrot owner here, can confirm birds do wee but its uric acid in a paste.

Birdnerd · 30/06/2020 07:14

To the poster asking if poop changes colour after eating blackberries... Yes it can. Salad makes the poop watery and greener too.
