To not understand what brits call good weather?

Usually it’s humid, really clammy, and often just a bit too hot.
So difficult to be active, feel refreshed, a lot of things.
The only thing the past weeks heat wave would be remotely good for is getting a tan/sunburn, surely?

I mean, it’s not the kind of ‘good’ weather you get in Cyprus, for example, this can just feel suffocating.
I must admit sometimes towards evening it’s quite lovely, a soft breeze, less oppressive.

Are we just a bit demented when it comes to sun, here? I know there’s a stereotype, but I do wonder why people call oppressive weather ‘beautiful’.

There a few in-betweens, so maybe people lap this up because it’s either that.....or rain.

What you think?

There's a great thing here in Brit land, you can leave and go and live somewhere else. If you don't like the way Brits describe their weather then go and live somewhere else. You won't have to listen to those pesky Brits anymore
Bye.

I agree, I like a bit of a breeze to go with the sun. Warm sun with a refreshing breeze is good for me. It’s been too hot for me to think about a day out, it’s miserable to walk around in this clammy heat.

Whoopsmahoot · 27/06/2020 17:36

In Scotland if it’s not snowing or raining it’s classed as good weather! 🤣

Candyfloss99 · 27/06/2020 17:39

I love hot humid weather. The hotter and sunnier the better.

Ginfordinner · 27/06/2020 17:43

It's currently 100% humid here - pouring with rain.

DryHeave · 27/06/2020 17:45

Good weather for me is knowing I can wear a cardigan, but definitely not need a coat.

transformandriseup · 27/06/2020 17:56

In Cornwall good weather is an 18 degree plus sunny/cloudy day. Anything better is a bonus Grin

I wish us Brits would learn how to cool a house in hot weather. Blinds, curtains, doors and windows closed and fans on, what is the point in letting warm air into the room you are trying to cool ?

UltimateWednesday · 27/06/2020 17:59

We get the sun on the front of the house in the morning and the back in the afternoon. I've only recently learned what a huge difference keeping the curtains closed appropriately makes Blush I still have the windows open for the breeze though.

We had some quite extended periods of genuinely lovely weather between March and the end of May around this part of the UK. My idea of perfect weather is blue skies (with or without fluffy white clouds), no rain, only the gentlest of breezes, a feeling of mild warmth from the sun on the skin, the sun not being strong enough yet to worry about getting burnt, it being warm enough not to feel cold when sitting, but cool enough not to get sweaty when walking. This is why spring is my favourite season, stretching to very early summer, because that’s when the weather suits me best. I hate the extremes - unless, with heat, I have access to an outdoor pool and amazing air conditioning. Cold weather is only remotely bearable when the sky is nevertheless blue.

I keep all windows and blinds shut all day but at the temps we had this week there’s nothing to be done. Especially where I am in C London where the buildings act like storage heaters as well.

Carycy · 27/06/2020 18:02

To me good weather is when I can sit in my garden in a sun dress and not feel cold. Not necessarily bake though.
But really in this country anything that isn’t rain is generally a win.

safariboot · 27/06/2020 18:06

The kind of weather we had on Thursday and Friday I think is somewhat unpopular. It's just that the heat lovers are the ones who made headlines by mobbing the beaches and being arseholes.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 27/06/2020 18:41

Anything other than freezing cold piss.
If the sun is shining, bonus.

LimeTreeGrove · 27/06/2020 19:57

Most of lockdown has been lovely in the SE. Sunny and warm. Only exceptions have been the few rainy or baking hot days, but mostly lovely.

Hollyhobbi · 28/06/2020 02:27

@Beatrixpotterspencil I actually remember the summer of 76 because I was 6 and we'd just moved to a new house in a different county near the beach. So we were at the beach most days. And we had a new really long front garden to run around in. The sky was blue for weeks and weeks. I don't remember it as being too hot at all.

KatherineJaneway · 28/06/2020 06:42

Last few weekdays have been far too hot for me. Not pleasant at all.

Tumbleweed101 · 28/06/2020 10:51

I think the weather we had April/May this year is my perfect. Lovely long sunny days, hot enough to be in summer clothes but cool enough to go for a walk without getting too hot. It was a dry heat too and not so many flying bugs about.

I don’t mind hot weather (25+) at home but don’t enjoy having to work in it.
