I feel ridiculous posting this but here goes...
My sister has bought her first flat. Big milestone and I asked if she'd like a gift for it. She has asked for coasters that are silent when the cup hits them (so not glass, slate etc) and don't stick to the cup either. And are a bit "special". Cork apparently, while quiet, isn't very special.
This feels like the epitome of a first world problem but I would like to try and get her what she has asked for. As a practical person whom luxury is wasted on I am at a loss, and googling sound proof coasters brings up ugly silicone ones.
Any suggestions very welcome please.

No specific suggestions, sorry, but I found some gorgeous ones on Etsy. Mine are ceramic so not suitable in your case, but you might find something.

Br1ll1ant · 27/06/2020 14:09

We have these and I think they fit the criteria. I have no idea what it is they’re made of but they’re silent and I like them. You can have the separately or they fit together.

Merryoldgoat · 27/06/2020 14:11

Look for some crocheted ones on Etsy

HawDere · 27/06/2020 14:12

Felt coasters from John Lewis?
Or leather ones from Heals? www.heals.com/curve-coaster.html

ArriettyJones · 27/06/2020 14:13

Cork apparently, while quiet, isn't very special.

Sorry, I’ll be no help, but that’s a great line. Smile

I had honestly never considered that coasters even make a noise before. I don't even use coasters and have to get them out when guests come and ask for them.

MumW · 27/06/2020 14:18

I was going to suggest crochet ones too.
If you look on etsy, I'm sure that you could commission some if you can't find any you like.
Of course, if you can crochet then you could make some - doesn't get any more special than that.

redwoodmazza · 27/06/2020 14:21

Oooh! I like those honeycomb ones!

Crunchymum · 27/06/2020 14:24

The honeycomb ones are fab, unless your sister has trypophobia Shock

Scout2016 · 27/06/2020 14:25

Thanks everyone so far. Working through the suggestions... didn't even know you could get leather or felt coasters.

Honeycomb person has a few nice ones actually... would never have thought of wood.
The collective know-how of mumsnet is a wonderful thing. Smile

These are resin so should fit the Bill. You can also have them made in the colour you wish to match her colour scheme. I assume you can message the seller and ask for just the coasters if the price inc the tray is a bit high.

Bluntness100 · 27/06/2020 14:35

Sorry she also just does the coasters.

We have wood ones, definitely quiet!

tbtf · 27/06/2020 14:42

Respiin for your eco points too

Cherrysoup · 27/06/2020 14:43

Leather Jack Daniels ones are nice. Wipe clean, obviously.

Scout2016 · 27/06/2020 14:48

I like the resin ones. She says they will be "noisy". Hmm Grin
