It's 30 degrees
I'm sweating
We're all sweating and nearly naked

Would it be wrong to have a cup of tea.

It’s actually an old army trick to help keep cool you down in the heat as makes you sweat more.

Teaandscone · 26/06/2020 14:04

Lazylinguist, I like your style!

lazylinguist · 26/06/2020 14:06

Coffee is quite nice, but it's definitely optional for me. Tea is not Grin.

JER27 · 26/06/2020 14:07

When I was a student in New York in the summer we drank iced tea, which was very refreshing. Just put a light blend ;of tea in a jug of cold water and put it in the fridge to brew. Add slices of lemon to taste when you pour it.

Cadent · 26/06/2020 14:08

YANBU, tea is staple in the Indian sub-content in hot weather.

I had a nap yesterday afternoon and woke up hot sweaty, a cup of tea was bliss.

I only have 1 cup a day though.

Cadent · 26/06/2020 14:09

OMG I love ice tea!

@JER27 do you recommend a recipe? I drink the Lipton stuff.

Deelish75 · 26/06/2020 14:13

Not long finished my after lunch cuppa.

The only hot drink I can’t stomach in hot weather is hot chocolate but I know people who can drink that (tif she doesn’t drink tea or coffee)

miafeta · 26/06/2020 14:14

I just finished mine.

Murinae · 26/06/2020 14:16

Well it’s freezing here today compared to yesterday and I’m having tea to warm up!

Jocasta2018 · 26/06/2020 15:13

I'm drinking lots of water with frequent cups of tea! I drink it in all weathers.
You don't have to drink it when it's freshly poured & really hot, you can let it cool down a bit before the initial slurp.....

BurtonHouse · 26/06/2020 15:19

The conditions are never wrong for a cuppa.

PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2020 15:20

My mum and dad (Irish) insisted on the thing about tea being the best thing to drink in hot weather. I’m still not convinced tbh but if you’re making one, I take mine strong but with plenty of milk and no sugar.Grin

rodentfeet · 26/06/2020 15:21

hot drinks cool you down inside and cool drinks heat you up so id say go for the hot drinks...

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 26/06/2020 15:28

Never too hot for tea. And it does cool you down!

Wither · 26/06/2020 15:39

After I pick the DC up from school I’m having a cup of tea.

JER27 · 26/06/2020 17:13

For Cadent: I do not have a recommendation for the type of tea to use in iced tea. Just try out what's right for you. The thing to use is cold water (not boiling). I found I preferred lighter teas for iced tea, but strong builder's brew for the hot kind. If you want to add ice cubes to cold tea - for entertaining - you can freeze cold tea, so that it is not diluted. You could add whatever garnish you like and serve in a big glass jug. This looks impressive, wonderful for summer, and it's cheap!

Cadent · 26/06/2020 18:44

Jer27 thank you! do you use English breakfast tea or assam? I'm guessing not herbal or green tea?

What garnishes do you use? Like raspberries and things?

Mrsjayy · 26/06/2020 19:15

Costas peach ice tea is lovely. Dd treated me to a drive through Costa last week well herself because I hate coffee in paper cups so had the .tea and it was lovely.

PleasantVille · 26/06/2020 19:19

I can't work out if this was a serious question, surely no one thinks there's any rules on what you can drink when Confused

In all my years it has never occurred to me that I'd need to ask anyone when I could have a particular drink.

Cadent · 26/06/2020 19:47

I’ll try it MrsJayy although £3 for tea is a lot ! If it is that much.

Pleasantville, it’s clearly tongue in cheek, having a hot drink in hot weather is counter-intuitive but works.

honeylulu · 26/06/2020 20:15

My ex's mother used to say "cools you down, tea!" I think she was right. My personal trainer told me drinking cold drinks when you are hot (ie marathon running) makes it worse because your body has a natural cooling mechanism, including sweating and if you put cold liquid into your core it fools your body into thinking it's cool enough and you feel hotter and hotter on the surface.

Better to have a room temp or hot drink. See what pp have said about arab countries. Plus I am sure footballers used to have a cup of tea at half time - don't know if that's still the case.

Auridon4life · 26/06/2020 20:23

I make ice tea get that caffeine hit delicious with some lemon slices.
