Your Royal Mail parcel from EWFulfilment is on its way

We have your item at Atherstone PSC and it's on its way.

AIBU to be utterly curious as to what this mysterious item is?

The only thing that I can think of that I'm waiting on is a driving licence from Swansea I think. I've googled EWFulfilment and it seems to be a warehouse or distribution centre or something and Atherstone is near Birmingham, but if it was my driving licence, they'd call it a letter rather than a parcel?

Can anyone guess what is winging its way to me please? *Lighthearted.

If I need an ambulance, they'll land me in my nearest one (Whipps X). If I am not vomiting or fit to walk, I'll get a taxi into the Royal London as they're far nicer there as well as faster. Whipps X is a really really old building too so it's not even a nice place and A&E space seems woefully incapable of dealing with the amount of patients. If you're capable of sitting up, you'll be put into one of two cubicles with about 5 chairs each where all of you will be on nebulisers/drips but just sitting on chairs (the walking wounded). Then there aren't enough cubicles for the people who can't sit up so the entire A&E circle in the middle is surrounded permanently by about 8 trollies. It's a pure disaster area. I was once put into a ward in a separate room which wouldn't have looked out of place in Call the Midwife.

BarbaraofSeville - Don't worry - even I get confused about which ones are in NI and which are not.

In NI are:
(London)Derry
Down
Armagh
Antrim (where Belfast is)
Tyrone
Fermanagh
I remember the two beginning with D and the two beginning with A, but always forget Tyrone and sometimes think Monaghan is in NI.

Also in Ulster but belonging to the Republic are:
Donegal
Monaghan
Cavan

Some Monaghan accents are very strong, so you might mistake them as NI (tread carefully lol)
Donegal is softer than a Belfast accent for example - it's more lilting
Cavan accent - is a strong Irish accent, but bears little resemblance to a northern accent.

During the troubles my parents were afraid to cross the border, so we wouldn't have travelled there much, though my parents used to travel to the markets in Enniskillen for Santa presents once a year in December - which is only over the border really from Co. Cavan.

He had no idea what it could be, and decided to pay if only out of curiosity I'd be the exact same as your DH!! Grin

When I lived in Ireland years ago, I'd go up to Enniskillen to Asda (we don't have Asda in the Republic) a few times a year to stock up on booze and Christmas shopping as it was cheaper and worth the price of the petrol to travel over the border. You could pay in Euros at the tills.

Jesus - talk about going off on a tangent! I've waffled about hospitals, NI and the cities of England all on a thread about a parcel in the post to me.
Sorry - verbal diarrhoea - It's been a while since I've spoken to anyone in real life lol

@GimmeAy I definitely did not receive an email from Royal Mail before I received my licence. Indeed I was expecting the licence to take two to three weeks to arrive and was really surprised when it arrived a week after I had posted my renewal application. In fact it arrived before the DVLA had cashed my cheque for the fee!

By the way in relation to your comment about Kilkenny being a city, in Ireland a city is defined as a seat of government or a cathedral city.
Kilkenny has a cathedral, so is a city.

GimmeAy · 25/06/2020 15:14

My two local towns have Cathedrals but they're not considered cities. There are cathedrals everywhere in Ireland.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Mel%27s_Cathedral

Neither of those towns are considered cities lol. In fact one is considered a bit of a warzone Grin

Reminds me of a friend's friend's Mum saying 'Oh Mary is living in Australia now'. 'Oh where?' asked my friend. 'In the town itself' replied the Mum.

Euclid I'm 2 weeks or more waiting now, but I think it might take longer replacing an EU one rather than just replacing a UK one for obvious reasons. It says they send the original back to the issuing authority. No post today anyway. I suppose I was expecting it to take a while (told 3 weeks, but I'm an optimist lol). I'm anxious about it because I'm afraid they'll say I can't replace it. To renew my Irish licence, I need to be in Ireland with proof of address in Ireland to renew it, hence it being expired. I'd need to move back to Ireland, and rent a place, get a bank a/c. or something to renew it in Ireland. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll just exchange it for a UK one.

Although, maybe I could just go back with my Irish passport I guess.

GimmeAy · 25/06/2020 15:57

It pains my heart to have to get a UK licence, but since I'm here now, I may accept it!!!

Atherstone is in Warwickshire. Birmingham is in West Midlands, 29 miles away.

Google is your friend. Wink

GimmeAy · 25/06/2020 16:00

Ok, I'm talking shite. I've just googled and all I'd need is my Irish ID and an appointment. FFS, well if they won't exchange my licence, I'll have to make a trip to Ireland to renew my Irish licence.

Oh well there you are. Very interesting about Irish counties though. Didn’t know any of that.

GimmeAy · 26/06/2020 12:28

Very interesting about Irish counties though. Didn’t know any of that.

It's a little known secret haha.
It really only comes into play when there are games or music competitions where you qualify from your province - the four provinces are Ulster, Munster, Leinster, Connacht.

GAA would have the 4 provinces as would a traditional Irish music competition called the Fleadh (loosely translated it means Festival I think), so you would compete first at county level, then if you get in the top 2, you qualify for the provincial competition, and then if you get in the top 2 in that you get to compete in the All-Irelands.

It's not something I'd expect people outside of Ireland to be aware of really. Unless you're maybe a rugby fan and you'd be aware of Leinster rugby or Munster rugby for e.g.

I don't think there are provinces in England? Just counties and 'regions' - I'd hear about them in elections and such.

In terms of the 6 counties, I think when Michael Collins was negotiating with Britain, they agreed on the 6 counties of Ulster with a predominately Protestant population afair.

Don't quote me on the history re Michael Collins, as I am not a history buff! By any means.

Not sure if this link works, but if not, if you google map of Ireland showing counties and provinces, it's a good illustration.

Ulster - North
Munster - South
Connacht - West
Leinster - East

more or less

But you can imagine why a political party called the Ulster Unionist Party these guys might have raised heckles with their name back in the day.
It's all such a sensitive area of Irish history (North and South).
