12 each of Knives, forks, dessert spoons, tea spoons and soup spoons that are in normal daily use. 4 matching serving spoons;
18 each of knives, forks, tea spoons and dessert spoons. These only come out if we have lots of people round, and they sometimes get taken to other people's houses if they are having lots of people. (I bought 3 sets of 6 in the Woolworths closing down sale);
6 each of knives, spoons, tea spoons and dessert spoons (used for picnics);
Various spare forks and spoons that are mainly remnants of the set that we used every day for over 20 years (not many left now, as I have given my children enough of them to get them started, including all the knives, of which there were fewer);
8 steak knives;
3 sets of 6 pastry forks (in my defence one set was a present);
6 'sporks' which are a cross between a fork and a spoon):
6 long handled spoons for ice cream sundaes etc;
Various bits of children's cutlery only used by guests with toddlers but keeping for use by future grandchildren;
A canteen of silver plated cutlery which seemed like a good idea when I bought it over 25 years ago, but which has hardly ever been used. That has 8 settings each of 2 types of knife, 2 types of fork and 4 types of spoons (dessert, soup, tea and coffee) plus 4 matching serving spoons;
Inherited set of ancient fish knives and forks (never used). Six of each I think;
Lots of chopsticks.
There are only two of us most of the time (plus one away at university and one who comes back for weekends sometimes) so I suspect that's rather more then we need!
