Really I'm just being nosey but we have 8 of each and 16 tea spoons for a family of 4.

Sometime I run out of items when the dishwasher is on and I'm now thinking we should get another set.

So how many do you have and how many people live in your home?

16 of each, plus 6 soup spoons, and 6 each of dessert forks and spoons.

Judge cutlery bought in the BHS January sale years ago.

CatBatCat · 24/06/2020 21:38

CurlsandCurves · 24/06/2020 21:39

BlueJava · 24/06/2020 21:41

Family of 4:
12 knives
12 forks
12 spoons
12 teaspoons
Half a tonne of chopsticks!

SurferRona · 24/06/2020 21:41

Me and one other here at mo. X8 of: small and large forks, small and large knives, steak knives, teaspoons, dessert spoons and soup spoons, serving spoons. No fish knives tho! Oh, and a single perfect different dessert spoon for me! LOVE my cutlery drawer, and full settings laid out for dinner with friends

gumbalina01 · 24/06/2020 21:45

Can anyone tell me where to buy a cutlery set that includes soup spoons and desert spoons

Bloodybridget · 24/06/2020 21:46

We bought a set of 8 each large and smaller knives, forks and spoons, plus teaspoons, last year. Also got 4 steak knives. On top of that, we have the nicest of the mismatched cutlery we used before we bought the set, and a very large quantity of old silver plated, bone handle cutlery that had belonged to DP's mother. There are only two of us! Useful to have so much for parties, but actually I'd love to get rid of the old stuff.

CouldBeOuting · 24/06/2020 21:47

I have a full twelve place settings of cutlery including salad knives & forks and soup spoons. They are separate to the butter knives and “making drinks” teaspoons.

I have twelve place settings of flatware as well but I’ve never actually had more than eight people for a sit down dinner..... yet....

Mine were a wedding present nearly 30 years ago.

weegiemum · 24/06/2020 22:19

Depends on how recently anyone has looked in the teenagers' rooms!

DragonflyInn · 24/06/2020 22:20

Family of 4:

12 of everything in the posh box set (that I was given when my Aunt died)

6 of everything in the day-to-day kitchen set plus about a dozen random teaspoons

8 of everything in the cheap picnics / garden parties / doesn’t matter if it get lists set.

nettytree · 24/06/2020 22:24

Not sure how many of each. But I once found 12 teaspoons, 3 knives and 2 forks in my sons room.

BackforGood · 24/06/2020 22:52

Good grief. How do some of you get by, when you have people round, or when you've not done the washing up from the previous meal ? Confused

We've probably got 20+ forks in the kitchen cutlery drawer, and considerably more knives and spoons. That's not counting the "set" that we use when we have more people round (there are 12 x k, 12 x f and 12 x sp in that box), nor the steak knives and fork set I also have.

If you are getting by with about 4 knives, what do you do when your dishwasher is running and someone needs to make tomorrows sarnies, or have a piece of toast between meals, or spread the icing on a cake you are making, or cut a cake you might have Confused

HalfBearOtherHalfCat · 24/06/2020 23:03

I've got really nice set of 12 of everything which my MIL gave us as a wedding gift. The rest of my household are banned from touching it, and it only comes out if we have company or for holiday meals so I can preserve its completeness.

We also have a drawer of mismatches which serves us on an everyday basis. Not sure how much we actually have, though at least 8 of everything I would say and probably a dozen forks. I have to rescue it from DH and DS on a regular basis though as they both abscond with cutlery and don't return it. I found two of my serving spoons in the vegetable garden a few weeks ago... they couldn't find the trowels apparently Hmm

ChaoticCatling · 24/06/2020 23:14

Two people.

A set of six knives, forks and dessert spoons that we don't use as they are too big. Three more matching knives and forks that are smaller. Two lunch forks. Six more dessert spoons, unmatching. 12 teaspoons, unmatching.

I was handed down the big matching set then bought the rest from charity shops.

GhostCurry · 24/06/2020 23:25

Backforgood I live how concerned you are about how shortage of cutlery might affect ones ability to access cake Grin

BackforGood · 24/06/2020 23:27

It's important stuff Grin

Thelnebriati · 24/06/2020 23:46

Ugh, we have 6 partial sets and motley teaspoons. We each have our favourites and there are some pretend smart ones for guests.

LolaDarkdestroyer · 25/06/2020 00:09

1 teaspoon, 3 spoons 7 forks and around 30 knifes cos everything else magically Fucks off so have all them knifes from about 6 different sets.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 25/06/2020 00:21

8 knives, forks & spoons. Extra teaspoons. Also cake forks (DD likes to use them too, I've trained her well Grin), 4 soup spoons, couple of latte spoons. Mostly mismatched. Some rather older than me, I like the old teaspoons as they're good for de-shelling boiled eggs & scooping avocados due to being so thin at the edge. Goodness knows how old they are - my "new" ones I bought to take to university 20 years ago are still thick & sturdy...

We do have a decent set somewhere in a wooden box, wedding present, no idea what's in it. DD will probably have it to set up home, at this rate.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 25/06/2020 00:22

Oh - in case it wasn't clear - 3 people.

JaneJeffer · 25/06/2020 00:22

I hid half the teaspoons at the beginning of lockdown because my DS's will use every single one and then there's none to be found when I look in the drawer.

DimplesToadfoot · 25/06/2020 00:43

12 of each as I bought 2 sets, I didn't think 6 of each was enough.

maybelaterdear · 25/06/2020 00:57

We have our usual every day cutlery but I bought 4 sets of Arthur price cutlery a few years ago ago for a family occasion.We now have 48 settings.
I feel that it was a good investment as I love entertaining & we have a huge extended family.Hopefully this cutlery set will last a lifetime!

Fifthtimelucky · 25/06/2020 01:10

12 each of Knives, forks, dessert spoons, tea spoons and soup spoons that are in normal daily use. 4 matching serving spoons;

18 each of knives, forks, tea spoons and dessert spoons. These only come out if we have lots of people round, and they sometimes get taken to other people's houses if they are having lots of people. (I bought 3 sets of 6 in the Woolworths closing down sale);

6 each of knives, spoons, tea spoons and dessert spoons (used for picnics);

Various spare forks and spoons that are mainly remnants of the set that we used every day for over 20 years (not many left now, as I have given my children enough of them to get them started, including all the knives, of which there were fewer);

8 steak knives;
3 sets of 6 pastry forks (in my defence one set was a present);
6 'sporks' which are a cross between a fork and a spoon):
6 long handled spoons for ice cream sundaes etc;
Various bits of children's cutlery only used by guests with toddlers but keeping for use by future grandchildren;

A canteen of silver plated cutlery which seemed like a good idea when I bought it over 25 years ago, but which has hardly ever been used. That has 8 settings each of 2 types of knife, 2 types of fork and 4 types of spoons (dessert, soup, tea and coffee) plus 4 matching serving spoons;

Inherited set of ancient fish knives and forks (never used). Six of each I think;

Lots of chopsticks.

There are only two of us most of the time (plus one away at university and one who comes back for weekends sometimes) so I suspect that's rather more then we need!
