To hate trial by social media

this seems to be a huge problem. Everyone has become an "activist" nowadays on social media. Not to forget cancel culture which is a disgrace imo.

For example, Camila Cabello it was found out she was using the n word in her teens. She should have known better yes and it is disgraceful what she did. But surely there has to be a ground where we can all learn from our mistakes. Rather than saying let's cancel her it would be better to have a honest discussion with her and say something like "look its wrong to use this word don't say it" and go through the history of the n word I am sure that would be more effective than saying let's cancel her.

Another is before a trial is done we say people are guilty. For example, Johnny Depp everyone vilified him on social media but the fact of the case actually shows he was a victim and many of the girls and guys who accused him on social media have never apologised to him or said they were wrong in accusing him. Caroline Flack is another example. Yes there was evidence she was violent but what papers were doing disgusting and social media towards her.

Why do people feel the need to comment on things that they have no knowledge on? And the better question why do people think need to give their opinions on everything? I have seen this in my own life as well. People gossiping about men and women because they perceive they are "unsociable" "unloving" "ugly" etc... The world would be so much better if people stopped acting like they know the full story and feel entitled to comment on everything.

The thing is about being a 15 year old racist is it's most likely your parents your quoting you haven't grown up enough to form your own opinion

When I was 15 my parents used to watch (and let ME watch from a young age) Jim Davidson who was racist who drank and drove (the police looking after his licence jokes) cheated on his wife (or claimed to in a "comedy show") it was all normalized racism sexism alcohol abuse

Now I'm grown up its unacceptable to me as a child it was 🤷‍♀️ a joke

DeeCeeCherry the OP’s post is arguing against cancel culture, is that not obvious? It’s not the same at all

WeirdWonders OPs post is about defending racists who use the N word, Johnny Depp who no way is entirely a victim. All must be forgiven.

Is that not obvious?

Thankfully she's not in a position to mass-inflict 'get over it' ideology on people who've suffered via the isms she's talking about.

Op, I have read quite a bit about Camila and her awful treatment of her fellow band member from Fifth Harmony who was bullied and racially abused by her.
She recently apologised, not because she has seen the "light" but because of the tweets that came to "light".
They were quite brutal as I recall.

I agree it's ridiculous and you know what? Facebook was set up to connect with family and friends and share special moments. Especially now we live so far a part. It has morphed into a weapon, a soapbox, a therapy session, a political tool, a business tool and whatever else.

People are so concerned about the Government tracking their movements in order to to protect society from a deadly virus, yet see no issue in documenting their every move and sharing intimate details of their personal lives.

Social media should be much more heavily regulated. Some people have mental breakdowns and do strange things and this can easily be picked up by the media at a future date to smear a persons character. It's awful. ^ I'm not talking about the people above specifically, I am referring to the general harm of the social media culture.

Alongside bullying Normani, it was also discovered that she had a tumblr in which she shared multiple racist post alongside Twitter. They were all anti-black and horrible. It was more than her saying the N word which is awful in itself. She was 15 when the tweets were posted which IMO is old enough to know what you're saying is racist.

Having just looked at the things Camila Cabello was posting, I dont know how you draw a line between her and the likes of Hopkins and Tommy Robinson. Frankly the former seemed more direct and overt in their racism.

I dont think it's a case of trial by social media, rather people making a judgment on a person based on that person's words and actions.

I have no time for anything that goes on on social media.

However, I think anyone who seeks to become famous in the present has to accept that what they've put on SM in the past might come back to haunt them. If you have skeletons in your closet, you have to weigh up whether fame and fortune are worth the risk of them being exposed. If they're not, get a low-key job somewhere and keep music or whatever it is as an offline hobby. If they are ... brace yourself.

I agree OP.

I saw a post on twitter where a black man was filming a white woman (races are relevant because in the video he was accusing her of being racist).
The man said this woman cut me off. flipped me off and then mouthed the n word at him. He said because of this he'd followed her home, to confront her. He had literally parked up behind her and the video started with him holding the camera up to her whilst she tried to cover her face and was pretty hysterical (i hate the word, it's rooted in misogyny, but can't think of a better one right now) and him going 'why don't you tell the world what you did karen, why are you screeching karen'. He then went on to film her number plate and house and literally said 'this is her license plate, this is where she lives, it's her address'. Now if this woman had done that to him she is obviously awful for doing so but a) there was no evidence of it, it's his word against hers b) i expect any woman would be scared and understandably shaken at being followed home in a car by a man, no matter what his race, and c) what was his intention of sharing her face, number plate and address with the internet if not to encourage people to find her and harass her?

It really was a horrible video to watch, he seemed completely unaware of his male privilege in that following and aggressively confronting any woman would scare her and seemed to be taunting her rather than open to any actual conversation or calm interaction.

This is a longer version than the 2 minute clip i saw on twitter so i havent watched the whole 15 minutes but if anyone wants to take a look it is here. Also i've just seen that since this video was originally posted by the guy who filmed it his twitter account has been suspended.
