AIBU?

Do you think you're a fun person?

I'm asking because I don't really think I am. When I look around me at people who easily make friends and meet partners, they are all fun, have a silly side, laugh a lot and get everyone else laughing. Obviously because they are fun, they draw people to them! Then I look at myself...hmmm...Grin

I don't think I know how to be fun. I'm much better at more serious conversation and by serious I don't mean sombre, just the day to day stuff. I can be silly when interacting with children and playing with the dog, but not in other contexts really. I don't really know how to make others laugh unless I'm being sarcastic or commenting as part of somebody else's funny story if that makes sense. God I sound weird.

I just wondered whether you all laugh a lot and whether you'd consider yourself to be fun to be around. I think people would honestly say 'no' to that about me, and would say that's probably not what they'd immediately think of, although I do have some long standing friendships so I can't be that bad. I worry that I'm too boring or serious for anyone to want to be with me in a relationship too. I suppose I am a bit uptight.

No I wouldn't say I'm fun. I try to make things fun sometimes for the kids and DP and me, but I'm not "fun" as you describe. But it doesn't bother me, I'm quite serious, analytical, logical, I enjoy my job, I'm loyal - those are important to me (others probably have different things important to them), but I'm not fun!

Depends on your definition of fun. Like a lot of people, I can't bear forced jollity and organised fun like sing-a-longs and group dancing. I die inside when someone on stage says "Come on everyone, on your feet!" I'm not good in big groups so all these online quizzes are hell for me, same as hen parties and anything that involves screaming on a mini bus.

But I do have close friends who I can really laugh with, sometimes for hours. If I'm in the right company I can tell stories and anecdotes. I'm good at talking to people and I'm generally an upbeat person. I find loud "zany" types who take over conversation very tedious. A bit like my BIL who turns into Mickey Flanagan at the O2 after a few drinks. What a bore.

No. I'm way too tired for fun.

I hope not.

Who wants to be known as a "fun" person?

I don’t think anyone would describe me as fun but I’m positive and have a good sense of adventure.
You don’t need to be fun to be good company.

I think I am. I laugh a lot when I am with people and make others laugh often. And I think I tell a good story and come up with quite witty comments.

I expect some people find this annoying, however! It takes a good mix of all kinds of people to make a world.

This thread has made me realise I maybe place too much importance on being seen as fun, and that it's okay to naturally be more serious. And you've given me a laugh so thanks.
