AIBU to think this is a great positive?

We are rising from this hell!

It’s is a great positive. We are now at the level the government said it would be safe to ease lockdown so they can get this swiftly under control. Oh wait, they already gone a head and done and eased lock down.

Coronabegone · 19/06/2020 14:31

But it's not caused an issue at least @Lockdownseperation

OP posts:
SoloMummy · 19/06/2020 17:01

It means nothing. The government hasn't stood by what it said. The R rate is increasing. Indeed we're in the same place we were when lockdown began, excluding the 50000 additional deaths that is.

Coronabegone · 19/06/2020 17:03

It means a lot I think and the r rate is increasing where?

OP posts:
Coronabegone · 19/06/2020 17:05

@SoloMummy you don't honestly think that things aren't improving and the infection and death rates are not dropping?

As I said we're merely where we started the lockdown.
The R rate is between 0.9 and 1.1 in many areas.

SunbathingDragon · 19/06/2020 17:19

I think it’s meaningless and we will soon be in the second wave. Make the most of this relative freedom before it has gone again!

KeepingPlain · 19/06/2020 17:23

I thought a second wave would have happened by now if it was going to really. We might be through it and I hope we are. Although winter coming up worries me as if there's no vaccine by then, if cases are still around it's likely to rise again then.

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/06/2020 17:26

The R rate is between 0.9 and 1.1 in many areas

Where is this information from? The data I saw today said it wasn’t above 1 anywhere in the country.

Coronabegone · 19/06/2020 17:33

It's below 1, it's between 0.7-0.9 as per the briefing.

OP posts:
ssd · 19/06/2020 17:37

I wouldn't believe this government if they told me 2 ×2=4

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/06/2020 17:38

@ssd

Well if it helps the Zoe app is also reporting a sustained and consistent drop in infections.
ChequerBoard · 19/06/2020 17:40

Even if you believe the R rate given in the briefing, they actually said it was the same as last week - quite how that moves is from level 4 to 3 is unclear..,,

imsooverthisdrama · 19/06/2020 17:42

Op you are not allowed to be positive, the world is going to end and you must go and sit in the dark and be miserable.
Seriously though it's positive but I do agree lockdown has already been relaxed and so are they going to relax further ?

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/06/2020 17:43

As the R rate is below one, infection numbers are consistently dropping. That’s how it moves us from 4 to 3.
arethereanyleftatall · 19/06/2020 17:44

Yanbu op. It's awesome.
And we're not in the same position @SoloMummy firstly because a hopefully very large percentage (who knows but 20% has been suggested) have already had it so will have immunity (yes, not proven yet, but that's because it can't possibly be proven yet but it would be very unusual not to do so), secondly it appears to be getting weaker (less deaths, less hospital admissions) and thirdly people are better at social distancing and hygiene now. I'm very positive.

Bmidreams · 19/06/2020 17:45

The range is above 1 in a few places, and range increasing in Midlands and London.

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/06/2020 17:45

Also when we locked down the R rate was between 3 and 4.

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/06/2020 17:46

Where? People keep saying this but don’t point to the evidence. The data I saw today said that it wasn’t above 1 in any area. Has new data been released this evening?
itsgettingweird · 19/06/2020 17:47

I'm pleased.

I don't think theyve handled this well and I do think they are a bunch of lying twits but I also think they realise (finally!) now they need to be open and honest and not give false hope. Therefore I trust it's the right thing to do.

Who however are giving a dire warning Sad

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 19/06/2020 17:48

Things are improving. So much so that a relative who is in one of the UK Covid vaccine trials got warned the whole trial is at risk because the chance of any of the participants actually being exposed to Covid is too low to demonstrate a vaccine is effective.

Bmidreams · 19/06/2020 17:49

@Drivingdownthe101 I'm sure it was in The Guardian. I'll try and find it.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 19/06/2020 17:50

The R rates are below one. Furthermore, R rates comprise many elements, the community transmission, and transmission in high risk environments eg care homes.

The overall rate is being dragged up by hospitals and care homes. Transmission in the community is now extremely low.

Bmidreams · 19/06/2020 17:53

Sorry, the R is up to 1, but the rate is plus 1 in London and up to 0% in Midlands.

MockersMisguidedByTheScience · 19/06/2020 17:55

We are apparently now at Level 3, but the Govt refuses to show us the data which leads them to this conclusion.

The problem is that parts of the country are easily at L3, but others, such as the North-East, are clearly not.

On the plus side, the data reveals the group least likely to get Covid are atheists, which I guess just about wraps it up for the Big G.
