To think the idea that schools won’t be back full time by September is an absolute disgrace?

The government and teaching unions need to pull their fingers out. There should be no excuses.

The effects of 6 months out of school is going to be damaging enough, both educationally and mentally for hundreds of thousands of children. Not to mention the unnoticed abuse and neglect.

Teachers should be wearing PPE with spit screens if they are vulnerable and this should be being organised now. Temporary classrooms should be being built in playgrounds and school fields. Random testing routines in all schools should be being devised as well as guidelines regarding children’s contact with others outside of school and home. Whatever it takes, it must be done.

Our society expects parents to work while their DC are at school and if they want to get the economy moving again, schools being back by September should be non negotiable surely?

@ Sweetlikecoca completely agree. Our head teacher is very militant and political and is not even complying with Government advice on opening for Y6. She has already said that she is not going to open in September “come what may”. As a result I have no other option but to look to change schools, or as per my other posts. Emigrate.

Sweetlikecoca · 15/06/2020 13:20

With the shops open now how will know what caused the potentially increase of COVID infection when several things have happened at once?

Head teachers should club together I wouldn’t be making medical and scientific decisions about the children’s education and future based on an update on the news.

LolaSmiles · 15/06/2020 13:28

A lot of people have teachers as close friends and family and we do actually know what their lives are like right now, it's nothing to do with " aunties neighbours dog".
It absolutely is if they pop up routinely on education threads to claim teachers want schools closed indefinitely, teachers are lazy, teachers aren't doing anything, teachers shouldn't be paid.

You know, it’s funny, the hysterical over reactors always, always, go just that little bit too far. And end up making statements like this. Oh and good luck with emigrating in the middle of a global pandemic!

Oh and good luck with emigrating in the middle of a global pandemic!

I'm trying to imagine any country letting Brits in even for a two-week holiday in the sun, let alone moving in for good.

Loads of threads on here show the strength of feeling among parents.

And equally, if you look at the uptake of school places for r 1 and 6 from June 1st you'll see there is a real divide on this issue. I'll say it again, we need a plan which restores confident and isn't as flippant as throwing the doors open in schools. We are in the middle of a pandemic, these are not normal times

That's what many teachers and parents have been saying.

Unfortunately, those who are more interested in bitching about schools seem to think anything other than fully open is a sign of lazy teachers and I'd bet my bottom dollar that whatever various schools do put in place will cause hundreds of threads having a moan.

China is already having a second wave. It’s wait and see I’m afraid. Not what anyone wants to hear.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/06/2020 16:13

I wouldn't call it a second wave in China. 36 new cases in Beijing isn't a wave.

TabbyMumz · 15/06/2020 16:16

They said 80 new cases in 24 hours this morning. All round the same market as last time.

Sweetlikecoca · 15/06/2020 16:17

@Rainbow12e

As I said in another thread, of course they will be back as normal in September. Death rate is dropping rapidly, 30 or so today. They can't keep schools on a part time basis with numbers that low.
I can’t imagine ALL kids will go back in September. First problem being that it’s optional at the moment so now parents feel entitled to keep their kids off school.

Secondly unless they decide to get rid of SD I don’t see how this can work 30 kids in a class and x3 that’s 90 kids in just one year group.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/06/2020 16:17

80 new cases still isn't a wave. We are still seeing cases in the thousands here!

nicenames · 15/06/2020 16:21

Schools will be back in September. France had 25 deaths/500 cases yesterday (which is where we would have been if we had locked down a week earlier -grrrrr) and Macron announced the end of the measures yesterday and made school compulsory and full timetable for everyone for the next two weeks. We are not so far behind them that we won't be able to open in September. Hopefully the fact that other European countries are starting to open without restrictions will mean we can too!

SmileEachDay · 15/06/2020 16:56

I agree nice. I think we are 2/3 weeks behind France - as long as we don’t suffer the results of the government’s shambolic, indecisive actions then I think we’ll be back in September.

If we aren’t, it’ll be because infection rates have sky rocketed again.

There can't be any doubt now that schools will go back in September-the 2m rule likely to be dropped imminently.

DomDoesWotHeWants · 15/06/2020 18:25

There will be no SD in schools and all 30 kids back in class as usual

Dream on @Rainbow12e

Of course SD will still be a factor. The virus isn't going away. Half size classes will be the norm for months to come. To pretend otherwise is a bit silly, frankly.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 15/06/2020 18:29

I think like ^ that.

I think there will be a mix of home and school working.

I know the exam boards are already working on next year.

pooiepooie25 · 15/06/2020 18:42

So if you think there should be no social distancing in classes and schools back as normal, are you also saying that there will be no social distancing anywhere from September?

The Department of Education have just shown what their priorities are. I'll give you a clue: it's not about catching up children's learning or making schools safe for a responsible phased return.

Primary schools should only have children back if there's no additional cost to have them back.

The mask is slipping.

Despite this, I'm sure there'll be posters on here saying it's all down to lazy teachers not wanting to work.

ChevyCamaro · 15/06/2020 18:59

^^
If you think that's what I said then I hope you're NOT a teacher because your reading comprehension sucks
