To ask about toilets...

If you have more than one loo do you have rules about which ones are for number twos? I've see a lot of "don't poo in the downstairs loo" signs on Instagram and just wondered if this is a thing now?

OP posts:
montyliesandmontycries · 13/06/2020 18:02

Hahahahah. No. We have one on the first floor and one on the second though, no ground floor loo - though I can't imagine caring if someone did have a poo there anyway...

HibiscusPot · 13/06/2020 18:02

Come on, in reality loads of us live in one toilet houses. As in most of London for a start. I’ve never lived anywhere with two toilets, and that’s with a big family.

GreytExpectations · 13/06/2020 18:03

Typical mumsnet replies here 😂 no, we poo in both our downstairs and upstairs toilets, you know because that's what they are for and we don't think of them as sacred ornaments

Watto1 · 13/06/2020 18:09

Dsis has a no pooing in the en suite rule but that’s just because the pipes can’t cope with it. She’s an expert at unblocking toilets now!

Permanantlypuzzled · 13/06/2020 18:12

I live in a bungalow so I send visitors to the local sports centre to shit.
“N o smell where I dwell.” (Family motto)

😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😂

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 13/06/2020 18:13

DH and I have an en suite and there is the family bathroom. Visitors and DCs use the bathroom for whatever needs to be done. DH and I us3 the en suite.

So long as you leave the toilet as you would like to find it then use the toilet for what it was designed for.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/06/2020 18:16

DH & I en-suite.
DS1 main bathroom
DS2 downstairs toilet.

Saves the whodunnit when the bogbrush needs to swing into action.

1forAll74 · 13/06/2020 18:21

Good grief, I have never heard of such stupidity, A toilet upstairs or downstairs,is a toilet, and should be able to be used for any kind of toilet time. What a weird situation, and a weird way to go about things. Do you have to put up little signs,so people can follow the rules about toilet use?

BrandyandBabycham · 13/06/2020 18:24

Our last house had 3 loos but this house only has the one in the bathroom. We don’t really have any rules. It’s more a case of Peter Kay’ “ I’d give that 5 minutes”!

Crystal87 · 13/06/2020 18:38

Our only toilet is in the bathroom downstairs so we have to poo in it. The house doesn't smell.

Sparklesocks · 13/06/2020 18:44

I love that people have ‘favourite’ or ‘allocated’ toilets. Mumsnet to the max Grin

bubbleup · 13/06/2020 18:55

The kids go wherever is closest but preferably upstairs.

If DP shits next to my kitchen though he's dead

monkeysox · 13/06/2020 19:02

We have more loos than arses in our house. Ridiculous really
I grew up in a two loo house and moved here to get more than one as potty training youngest dc when everyone else needed the toilet was difficult.
Poo in the loo. Any will do.

handbagsatdawn33 · 13/06/2020 19:04

We only shit upstairs for a very simple reason.
The toilets empty into different sewage pipes, & somewhere along the downstairs line we have nasty, stupid, neighbours who put wipes down their loo & block the pipe.
We've had to call out the water company 5 times already this year.
They've actually written to all households that could be responsible, but the fucking arseholes have ignored the letters.

attillathenun · 13/06/2020 19:17

No poo in the downstairs loo - bastard builders who built our house didn’t lay the pipes right so more than one sheet of loo roll down there and you’ve got to put in a call to dyno rod. Also guests use that loo and god forbid it’s in a mess because DH has been in there Blush

pigsDOfly · 13/06/2020 19:26

I have three loos in my house.

I live on my own so can, and do poo in all three.

Runnerduck34 · 13/06/2020 20:01

Find these rules a bit bizarre, i suppose if you have a downstairs loo, ensuite and family bathroom and have a small family you can afford to be picky 😆
There are 6 of us , one bathroom and a downstairs loo, we use whichever is closet and is free . My bugbear is that i seem to be the only one capable of using a toilet brush!!

Ghostlyglow · 13/06/2020 20:04

Oh this is a new level of mumsnet weird 🤣🤣🤣

tiredanddangerous · 13/06/2020 20:13

People on mumsnet are bloody weird when it comes to toilet usage. Anyone can shit in any toilet they like in my house.

GreytExpectations · 13/06/2020 20:22

Yep, Mumsnet is so strange. They must have some kind of special, sacred toilets Grin
Sparticuscaticus · 13/06/2020 20:25

😆😆😆
No I don't think most of us do have a rule about which toilet is for opening bowels in and which is just for wee !

Totally understand those saying they have dodgy pipes to one toilet or an en-suite that's not for smells when you need to sleep.

I have noticed my DS likes to use downstairs toilet in the morning deliberately so not to gas us all out when we need to use shower to get ready for work and school. I've never asked him to though, he's considerate like that.

DramaAlpaca · 13/06/2020 20:28

I wouldn't dream of trying to control my family's toilet use.

user1728393 · 13/06/2020 20:38

We poo in whichever loo is closest. En-suite, main or downstairs, they all have windows if necessary!

nildesparandum · 13/06/2020 20:40

I am pleased I have only one loo. No arguments at all.
Also, the more you have the more you have to clean.

Natashabobasha1 · 13/06/2020 21:38

We have 2 bathrooms. The husband poos downstairs...I mostly use upstairs. We have large windows in each bathroom. After a poo, open the window AND CLOSE THE DOOR to keep the stench out of our home. As long as nobody leaves traces of crap in the bowl, I'm fine. I don't like seeing trails of poo in toilets..gross .
